  1. Well, like my perpetual tinnitus, I've gotten used to it and mostly ignore it. But since I'm only 28, I hope this doesn't mean serious problems in the not-so-distant (earlier than most people) future. Yeah, if you suddenly start seeing spots, go see an optometrist. It could just be bits of stuff floating around (aparently small bit of tissue can detach and...
  2. Thanks guys I'm not jumping to conclusions, but was just curious of other people's experiences. I actually have considered the low blood pressure after eating thing, which is always possible, but I want to keep an eye out for migraine symptoms because of my family history, that's all. (mostly with concerns about this alleged aneurism. If I start having migraines...
  3. Hi All, I preface this by saying that I have never had a migraine. Not the head-splitting, need to hide in the dark for hours, horrible horrible headache that migraines classically are. However, I'm starting to wonder if I might not be showing symptoms of a so-called "silent" migraine. I know migraines can be hereditary. My father used to have them...
  4. Yeah, soy is sneaky. It's like, one day you're fine with it and the next day you're not. I was doing fine with soy until suddenly tofu would kill me. Now even small amounts, like soy lectin and such, can bother me (seems to be ok in small amounts if I take a digestive enzyme with it, but I don't buy anything with soy in it any more.) It's worth a try....
  5. If you've been 2 years gluten-free already, the likely it's something else that's bothering you. A lot of Celiacs (that's what we typically call ourselves) end up with problems with other foods as well. I was in denial for a long time as well, still having other odd symptoms that I couldn't explain. With us, it often comes down to food. If it's not gluten...
  6. Sometimes stuff just happens. It could be that your body decided it didn't like not being fed properly. Maybe the mac&cheese went off? (when did you cook it? I seem to have problems with leftovers even when they were fine the first time. So weird). Wouldn't think of the icky keyboard, but who knows... Anyway, hope you feel better. Maybe lay off the prunes...
  7. Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, I'm Canadian and can't sign it, which means one of my American brethren will have to do it for me, because if there are good regulations in the US, it'll be easier for us too. Peg

    ARCHIVED I

I get that too, somewhat, and figure it's more of a dry air/hard water problem than a Celiac thing. If it doesn't go away with moisturizing, etc, get it checked as it could be Dermatitis Herpetiformis (sp?), which is a skin problem associated with Celiac. Oh, and even from my trip there earlier this year, the UK seemed pretty good in the gluten-free dept...

    ARCHIVED I

Congratulations Mr Happy! I've never seen anyone so elated to find out they can't eat gluten. I know I felt much better after a week on the diet, but this is amazing! So wonderful. That said, you should get testing done asap (bloodwork and endoscopy/biopsy). If you don't go back on Gluten for it the results won't be reliable (but don't put yourself through...
  10. This risks going off into another subject, but thanks AVR! The tinnitus I can handle, but I was having inner ear problems (so I thought) last year and went to specialists and tests and the whole bit and they found nada. So I cut back on salt, which helped, and eliminated dairy, which helped more, and then (ergh) took out soy and I rarely get the dizzies/sinus...
  11. Well, considering how much of a lightweight I am, I'm sure i'll be pretty entertaining on the way home. I'm not afraid of the procedure or the after effects or anything, just wanted to make sure I have all the bases covered and don't end up having to beg a friend to come meet me at the last minute. My boyfriend is escaping to Chicago that day. Grrrr!...
  12. Biopsy is the only way to be absolutely sure, but if the blood test was positive, and with all your symptoms, your doctor should be kind enough to diagnose you as Celiac. If you really want to know for sure, you can schedule a biopsy and start eating gluten free after it's done. But, with all you've been through all ready, I'd say don't bother unless your...
  13. Ha! Nettles always remind me of stories about this Tibetan monk who meditated out in the woods for years with nothing to eat but nettles. He ate so much of them he turned green! Not sure how much you'd have to drink for that to happen... I am totally trying this though. I tend to get achy after getting cc'd. And AVR, the ringing in your ears went away...
  14. Thanks guys Unfortunately, my appt time is already set for noon. I'm going to sucker a friend of mine into meeting me, and will either treat him to lunch if i'm up for it, or just get home and crawl into bed. It's been an awfully long time since I had a sedative, but it will probably do a number on me... Well, still have 3 weeks to gear up for this...
  15. Yeah, I dodged the colonoscopy bullet. My Dr thought I should do one, but when I went in for the consult the GI at the scope clinic thought there really wasn't any reason to put me through all that. We'll see what the GI I finally get referred to says. So, really no side effects other than a bit groggy? My appt is at noon. I'm going to a clinic not...
  16. Hi all Probably a million people have asked this before, But I have an endoscopy scheduled in a couple weeks, and am wondering what the procedure is like? I know i can't eat anything for at least 6 hours before (apt is at noon, so no breakfast and nothing the evening before, to be safe). As for the actual procedure, do they drug you or put you under...
  17. Ooh, soy... Have you had trouble with soy before? Can you eat soy-based things like tofu and soy-sauce and such? Or have those been cut out for a while? I stopped eating soy around the beginning of the year when I noticed (after cutting out casein a few months before) it made my head all floaty, aggravating my "vertigo" symptoms that had gotten better when...
  18. Welcome Cole! as a fellow self-diagnosed Celiac, trust me, no judgement here. The gold standard for us is that you get better without gluten. It's going to take a while before you really get better, at least 6 months but probably closer to a year before you can say, hey! I feel good! I went through a lot of anxiety before going gluten-free, and it's still...
  19. If you were indeed not eating gluten when you had your biopsy done, and do want to get a definitive answer on whether or not its celiac, you could do a gluten challenge (start eating it again) for a month or so and then get the test redone. But for that you have to be willing to put yourself through a long period of pain and then healing afterward. Because...
  20. Step 1: eliminate all gluten. Give it a while. See if you feel better. If you do, then you at least have Gluten Intolerance, though it is still possible that you have Celiac if you weren't eating (enough) gluten at the time of your biopsy. But to be honest, that really doesn't matter in the end. If you still don't feel any improvement after a few months...
  21. Wow, I am always so amazed at the things we have gone through, and have been strong enough to get through. It makes me grateful that I stopped eating gluten when I did, and that my situation was -in comparison to so many experiences- not so bad. I joke (ok, half-joke, it could very well be true) that my Celiac was triggered by working at a pizza restaurant...
  22. Thanks TH, I'll look it up and see if I can get it on my phone. I've been trying to keep up with recording things, but it seems on the good days I forget about it, then am frantically trying to remember what I ate as soon as my stomach goes wonky. If I start using it, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks Peggy
  23. Aww, that's too bad! I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted though. Probably your body adjusted and went back to normal. Our silly guts...
  24. Hi again Well, I haven't had any trouble with yeast for quite a while (thank god. that's no fun), and no bacterial issues that I know of (though I just got a stool sample done and haven't gotten the results yet). I don't know much about histamines. I don't have any actual allergies (that I know of) aside from Celiac and intolerance to milk and soy. I...
  25. I still get excited when I see something gluten-free that I haven't been able to eat in a while. And if someone asks me about why I can't eat something, I try not to go on about it (I do go on about it, but I do try not to). I know my mother (also Celiac) would hardly talk about anything else for a while, which got kind of grating, but she's settled down...
