How often do you have canned tuna? Do you like other fish? Maybe try salmon or something else instead and see if you're ok. Tuna shouldn't be eaten very often because of the mercury levels. I only eat it on occasion (usually as good sushi) for that reason, and the overfishing, etc. Also, unless you've contacted the company and asked, you don't know if the...

ARCHIVED Low Calcium (After A Year Of No Dairy)
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just reporting back: I've been taking the supplements for about a week, and generally am feeling better, more energy (which is great cause it's the middle of the winter and f-ing freezing out), less achy, etc. Of course, It's also been two weeks on my "make everything at home or else" challenge, which more or less guaratees I haven't touched gluten, dairy... -
The best way to celebrate would be to indulge in some really good gluten-free goodies. Bake yourself a cake, make something wonderfully delicious that you wouldn't usually have, or find a good bakery that will do it for you, but keep the gluten out of it. You don't need a hangover for a week. (Now I have the urge to bake chocolate cake... great...) Congrats...

(man! I rarely venture into the Super Sensitive forum, but this thread was worth a peek!) I also have trouble with eggs on their own. Seem to be ok in baked goods, but not as the main ingredient. Even so, I've switched to mostly vegan baking since my man won't eat eggs on principle. I don't think it's a gluten thing, it's just that a lot of us seem to...

ARCHIVED Depressed About Eating A Restricted Diet
Pegleg84 replied to rymorg2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi rymorg, I'm also gluten/dairy/soy and mostly egg-free, and yep, it's tough. I miss cheese so much! And soy is the root of all evil. It's been really tough, not just because I can't eat what I want, but because it's so damn hard to avoid. A bit of soy-lectin and I'm screwed. I definitely get depressed about it sometimes, but think, well, it could be... -

ARCHIVED Why Am I Not Sick From Eating Gluten?!?!?!
Pegleg84 replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I was thinking about that after the fact. You'd need at least a month, maybe two. Hope you're still doing ok. -

ARCHIVED Low Calcium (After A Year Of No Dairy)
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I live off almonds and kale, which is probably why my bones haven't melted yet. Managed to find some calcium in less than horse-pill size. I'll report back in a week and see it if makes any difference. I'm casein (and possibly lactose as well) intolerant, so don't eat any cow, goat or sheep dairy. I can manage very very small amounts of goat/sheep cheese... -

ARCHIVED Low Calcium (After A Year Of No Dairy)
Pegleg84 posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi all I've been completely dairy free for over a year now (aside from the occasional "of course there's no butter in this" self-delusion to eat things like homemade gluten-free pie), and it's been helping a lot. However, cause I'm an idiot, I haven't been taking a calcium supplement. Cause i'm an idiot and aparently didn't let it sink in that Oh, Calcium... -

ARCHIVED Stiff And Achy Is This Just Part Of It?
Pegleg84 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also get the achiness, definitely after being glutened (for a couple days at least), but often without any link to something I might have eaten. I usually think it's sitting around too long at work or at home, but then why are my arms all achy and tingly? They are right now, actually, and I know I have not eaten anything that could have been ccd with gluten... -
Well, I think I have finally have something to add. So, I saw a GI for the first time on Friday (only 4 years into this thing), mostly because I've been having other issues lately and wanted to make sure it's nothing more serious. (I recently had my first endoscopy/biopsy as well, which was of course negative for celiac, having been gluten-free for 3....

ARCHIVED Omission Gluten Free Beer W/ Barley Review
Pegleg84 replied to buckwheat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Buckwheat, I'm so glad to hear I'm not alone! My boyfriend, who ears serious brownie points for being my beer mule and bringing me Greens and New Planet from the US, got me a couple bottles of a german "gluten removed" beer (brunhauer or something like that...) I was highly skeptical. And after being brave enough to have a bottle, I was still highly skeptical... -
Wow! I had no idea my two cents would cause such an uproar! There's still so so much we don't know about Celiac, but it's not something you catch, so I've always had trouble thinking of any kind of "cure" for Celiac as being a vaccine. Maybe they will figure something out someday, but in the meantime we still have to stick to conventional methods (ie...

ARCHIVED Wheat In Nz And Australia Has No Affect On Me
Pegleg84 replied to MaxConfusion's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, wouldn't it be nice if there was a magical land with magical gluten free wheat... I would move there in a second! But there's not. You have Celiac Disease. No doubt about it. The thing about Celiac is that everyone has different symptoms and reacts in different ways. Just cause you eat some gluten doesn't mean you're going to feel it right away... -

ARCHIVED Why Am I Not Sick From Eating Gluten?!?!?!
Pegleg84 replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
10 years gluten free is a long time. When was the last time you had a reaction to a glutening? Maybe your gut really has healed enough that now that you're feeding it gluten again, the damage isn't yet enough to affect you. Problem is you won't know until the symptoms do hit and by then you'll need weeks or months to recover, depending. However (as the GI... -
Look at a good natural foods store, or ask if they can get it. It's a bit pricy, but it's worth it.

ARCHIVED Lactose In Birth Control Pill: Enough To Cause Problems?
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah, that's what I figure. I've never had trouble with it, and switching BC would be much more dangerous for me right now that worrying about a minute amount of lactose. -
It could be something you ate, or it could just be that your period FEELS 10 times worse because the rest of the month you actually feel pretty good! If you don't know your period is about to start, then it's pretty easy to wonder, is this a glutening? Oh. Wait. No. Just the monthly horribleness. It is also likely that if you do get CCd over your period...

ARCHIVED Lactose In Birth Control Pill: Enough To Cause Problems?
Pegleg84 posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
So, I've been on the same BC pill for years. It works. It doesn't bother me. I trust it. My body is so used to it it's like clockwork. I know it's gluten-free (checked when I went on the diet), but since I am weeding all soy out of my life right now, I checked the non-medicinal ingredients just to double check and was shocked to see: Lactose!? Whaa? I... -
If you're ok with milk, then there is probably some soy-free milk chocolate out there too. (If you're ok with milk, then I'm jealous. I miss cheese so much!) Good luck!

ARCHIVED Gluten Reactions Getting Worse, Not Sure What To Eat After Exposure.
Pegleg84 replied to General Ludd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The holidays are a treacherous time for us. I got glutened at least once while I was home, and probably ate (willingfully ignorant) a little too much buttery things, stuff with soy, etc etc. It all resulted in me feeling like crap for days, being horribly sick on New Years, and only in the past few days getting back to normal. Glutenings are cumulative,... -

ARCHIVED Just Stumped The Nutritionist
Pegleg84 replied to Chaff's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't know how I'd survive without Larabars either... I'm also in agreement that it could have been the sausage making your gut go what is this! Can I handle this? I don't know. Let's find out. it might not have been a reaction to anything in the sausage per se, but that your gut just had to adjust to it, might have had trouble with it the first time hand... -
Soy is now officially my worst enemy. I also like to think that a little soy lectin won't hurt me. And probably a very little of it won't. Like, 2 chocolate chips or something. Maybe. More than the tiniest bit send my head spinning in minutes. It's not worth the risk. You can indeed get things without it, though it takes serious hunting, and shelling...

Ok, so I finally got me some nettle tea yesterday. Not bad taste wise. I don't know if it helped my stomach situation or not. It certainly didn't help immediately (actually felt a little worse while drinking it) but today I am doing relatively better. Last night was a killer. Yesterday I ate a little too much 'may contain soy' treats that obviously did...

ARCHIVED Blurred Vision And Gluten Ingestion
Pegleg84 replied to alesusy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My vision is pretty bad at the best of times, and has certainly not improved on its own being gluten free, but that's an issue separate from Celiac. When I get glutened, or eat dairy or soy, my vision definitely goes blurry. It's one of the first symptoms I get. Unless I concentrate on focussing, it all goes fuzzy. Thankfully that usually only lasts an... -
Bwahaha! So true Honestly, it would likely save the prison system money if they did make sure a Celiac inmmate stuck to the gluten-free diet, rather than spending extra on health care when they start getting horribly ill. Rice and potatoes really aren't that expensive. Boil. Serve. Simple. I don't know what the situation is in Canada either. It would probably...
