I am finding that I am hungry all the time since going gluten-free 3 weeks ago...I eat a lot of vegies and lean meat with my meals...so we've been looking for lots of snack items that won't pack on the pounds for non-meal snacks. Trader Joes has a lot of rice crackers that actually taste great, costco carries rice crackers that are more affordable...
  2. You are doing all the right things...you are your child's best advocate...trust your gut. This thread shows more than the knowledge accumulated, it shows the common sense that needs to be more present in medical discussions today. I would never dismiss the wonders we have access to with medicine...I only question -- why not try the simple first? ...
  3. WOW all great advice...thanks everyone I am also newly diagnosed and busily trying to convert our kitchen. I am very fortunate...my husband, sons and I all share cooking and they are supportive as we learn what mom can and can't eat. We've taken the -- let's figure out how to convert what we normally eat to gluten-free. It hasn't been as tough as...
  4. I've had unexplained weight gain for several years. It got worse the past few years...I'm 40-50 pounds overweight...yet I have always eaten a healthy diet (just went gluten-free 14 days ago) and exercise ALOT and am very active every day (early morning to about 3-4pm when I bloat and run out of steam). I am hopeful that removing gluten will eventually heal...
  5. I am newly diagnosed...my blood tests were very low positive for celiac and my biopsy was obvious celiac confirmed by biopsy in three spots. I asked my doc why my tTG IgA would be only slightly elevated since it is clear that I indeed have celiac. He is a celiac specialist and says they just don't know. Celiacs can have high blood numbers and nothing determined...

  11. LOL...I hear that...after years of being sick periodically and docs not finding anything...even I thought it might be in my head...until I got even sicker -- while laying down last summer I wrote a journal of all the times I could remember being sick...imagine my surprise to find out that there was one little blood test that no other doc thought to run on...
  12. Thank you Hez and Rice Guy...I function much better with realistic timeline. Back to being patient and studying my gluten-free manuals. 43 year old female, still waiting for results of biopsy 9 days ago...patience is a virtue or so I'm told.
  13. I had my biopsy last week...doc at celiac center at UCSD emphasized not changing my diet until the procedure was over. He was even concerned that I was off gluten for one day when my primary had called me with the results from the tTG IgA...she told me to try it to see if I felt better, but luckily I found info on internet that said DON'T change your diet...

How long did YOU wait before...

Praying that this is the correct diagnosis after years and years of docs looking at me with that ok, dear you are either nuts or depressed expression.
