  1. Where did you get the info that the Walgreen brand of "Zyrtec" isn't gluten free? Any gluten info on the RiteAid brand? I've been using Zyrtec for a long time, and the Kirkland brand (Costco) works fine for me also (no reactions). However, I had pretty bad "gluten" symptoms when I used the brand sold by RiteAid. I've been meaning to make some calls...
  2. I use both corn starch and rice flour for thickening and for gravy. They both should work for either purpose in a pinch. Generally, I use corn starch for thickening (mix with liquid prior to heating) when doing chinese stirfry, or when trying to thicken gravy that is too thin. I prefer rice flour (usually brown rice flour) for making a roux, when...
  3. I miss the rolled tacos (with guacamole) I used to eat at authentic taco stands/shops in southern Cal. Open Original Shared Link If anyone has a good recipe to share, I'm all ears. TIA!
  4. I've been craving taquitos with guacamole and salsa. While grocery shopping, looked at the products in the freezer section, hoping to find something gluten free. I get bored eating the same stuff. I found frozen Chicken Taquitos and Beef Taquitos, mfr'd by Reser's Fine Foods. I was happy, as ingredients look safe--corn tortillas, nothing that should...
  5. Wow, that's great! Nice they're so close. I'm gonna have to drive over and pick some up! Been craving for pizza lately.
  6. I'm familiar with Bryer's vanilla, strawberry, and peach. I believe those are safe, and I haven't experienced any symptoms from having them. I think chocolate is gluten-free too. Since celiac diagnosis, I haven't tried other flavors of Bryer's. Read the ingredient list to be sure.
  7. This is our favorite mushroom soup recipe. I slice the mushroom with food processor. We like the soup a little thicker, so double the amount of flour when making the roux (we substitute brown rice flour). Also, we use 2 tablespoons of lemon juice instead of 1 tsp. Just go by taste... We also use this soup as a sub for "canned cream of mushroom soup...
  8. Woliki, you should be very proud of your son! My kids aren't gluten-free. They were nice and offered me some of their gluten-free candy. I had assumed I couldn't have snickers (my favorite) when I started gluten-free. It's been a great Halloween, finding out I can safely eat snickers and 3 musketeers! Open Original Shared Link
  9. Looks wonderful! I will have to try that soon.
  10. Thank you. I will be trying this soon!
  11. For myself, it's too complicated to clean adequately, and my wife thinks I'm anal-lytical. I was doing the same as you described, but still had infrequent cc events--not sure if it was crumbs popping about from grease splattering? Moisture coming in contact with oils in a hot place can do that. So for convenience, I'm trying to implement having an...
  12. For myself, I've found that hand washing scratched "pre-gluten free" cutting boards and teflon pans does not do the job well enough--still got symptoms from using them. Silverware and knives (except serrated) are okay to handwash as long as I can scrub all the surfaces, meaning I don't trust handwashing my forks, as I can't scrub between the tines. That...
  13. Thank you kindly, GOOD neighbor!
  14. The proteins that comprise gluten are much too large to pass thru skin.
  15. You're very welcome! Honestly, I've yet to make a decent gluten-free bread. For now, I just buy Udi's (thank goodness it's available). I'd love to be able to make a good bread, so feel free to let us know how it goes with the xanthan/guar gum. I'm searching for bread baking tips!
  16. We should remain optimistic, but we shouldn't jump the gun...
  17. The box I bought recently looks the same, except the Nabisco logo on the top left of the box is no longer there. It's listed here, under "cream of wheat". Open Original Shared Link
  18. Yes, I get very similar symptoms. If you're not running a fever, you most likely don't have the flu.
  19. Make sure he flosses too! "We don't have to floss all our teeth, just the ones we want to keep".
  20. Thanks for clarifying Glamour. You have a good point. As a scrub, it's better not to mix vinegar with baking soda, which is amphoteric. Mix baking soda (or even washing soda) with liquid soap to make a paste. Works great!
  21. If you mix baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar (acetic acid), they neutralize each other, the end products being carbon dioxide gas (which bubbles out of solution) and sodium acetate, which is ineffective for the purpose of cleaning.
  22. A few weeks ago, I got sick after taking my 3 yr old into a Krispy Cremes donut shop to get her some milk and a free donut. I didn't eat/drink anything. I wondered if I inhaled some flour in the air. Airborne flour we inhale, ends up in the throat, and is ultimately swallowed...
  23. Oooooh! I've been craving for "chewy like a bread stick" or real gluten pizza crust. That recipe looks great, as it's so simple! Do you think it could be shaped into a flat disc or something? What is a guy to do!!!?? Hmmmm, thinking, thinking.... Thanks!!!
  24. Sorry you're experiencing this, but I've been there too. It is very frustrating to be sick, and it feels like playing russian roulette when you're just trying to eat! I'm relatively new to this and the gluten free diet, but it is wonderful to finally feel good! Honestly, I'm one of those who used to be a bit unsympathetic towards folks with food...
  25. My schooling was biochemistry/molecular biology. Without going into too much detail, xanthan gum, guar gum and gelatin are all used as thickening/binding agents due to their interaction with other molecules, which is determined by molecular structure. However, both xanthan and guar gums are much more effective as a thickener/binder/plasticizer than gelatin...
