  1. I think this is the key point that I need to get across to her without seeming ???? can't think of the right word ???? (you know what I mean though). Did the Indians even eat cornbread??? And even if they did, I believe they also practiced smoking pipes of all sorts, so should the kids be given pipes to smoke to celebrate thanksgiving at their party?...
  2. I was wondering how you made your pizza with those crusts because mine did not turn out. The first time I just followed the directions and my crust burnt at the edges, even after baking at the lowest end of the time range, and it was very thin to begin with so it turned out crunchy/crispy. The second time I tried cooking for even less time and it turned...
  3. WE do have that book! She likes it a lot too, and I know they have 'bring someone special to read' a book of your choice, during reading month (not until march though maybe?) and the thought actually had crossed my mind about encouraging her to choose that book when it's her turn. But since she's only four, and she is actually somewhat shy, I do not think...
  4. Just wanted to vent again....ditto on my heart breaking for dd, and so much for the teacher being "great". Yesterday was their thanksgiving teepee (SP?) party which parents were invited to. I went in with her and am bombarded with "we are having cornbread and popcorn today (apparently to honor the Indians??), can she have those?" (as if she just remembered...
  5. This is ultimately your decision, but since you asked I will give my input. If you are eating gluten free anyway, then there really is no point in giving your daughter gluten. I have yet to find any research proving that early exposure protects against later development of celiac, otherwise I would not hold this opinion. My opinion is similar to your...
  6. I'm not sure exactly what a number less than 1 would mean, BUT for your reference my son is IgA deficient (confirmed with a Total IgA lab report) and his IgA ttG was 1. ?? not sure if this helps you?? They definately should have ran a total IgA, from the sounds of it, they don't know what they're doing.
  7. If he isn't going to pay attention to what you are saying to him, then my advice would be to find a new doctor ASAP. I would not let him do any type of surgery on you! That is just ridiculus.
  8. When our dd was a baby baby she had bright green (like shamrock green! very startling) poop in her diaper for a few weeks. At that time the ped told us it just meant her food was going through her system faster than normal, and not to worry. This was also the ped her told us she was just "colicky" and had a "temperament" the whole time she was reacting...
  9. I just wanted to chime in about Udi's bread. We're on our third case, it is absolutely wonderful. The whole grain is as good as the white, and both are as good/if not better than regular bread. The blueberry muffins "taste like gluten" according to my 6yo, they were gobbled up in one sitting for breakfast. We used up the last of our Kinnik brand bread...
  10. Our reason was that without a completely gluten free home our dd wasn't getting healthy even after over a year and a half of what we thought was gluten free. It wasn't. I feel that after we became a gluten-free home, she regained her health and her happiness. Plus it is great moral support for her! She is now 4 and she is well aware of what she can/cannot...
  11. Well, my youngest dd has hit a turning point. She is 6 months and I have been knocking around the idea of starting some solids. She had a rough beginning, trouble gaining weight from day one until the point I realized gluten was her problem when she was between one and two months. Since then, I have stood firm in my decision not to expose her to any gluten...
  12. Is the soy formula also gluten free? I'm not very informed about formula but that would be the first thing I would check. If you yourself are diagnosed celiac, your baby could very well be responding to gluten even though he/she may not be celiac. Just keep up your investigation, consitpation in a 3mo old is NOT normal, and don't let any doctor tell you...
  13. I went through the same feelings you are describing, especially the "it isn't fair" they get to do this/that etc. . . . with time they will fade away some because you will find special things you can do, they may/may not be different that what you expected, but there are many things. You can still do frosting decorating crafts, you just have to plan ahead...
  14. The most common cause for dark circles under the eyes IS indeed an allergy.......that being said, the body could be responding in a similar way when a person sensitive to gluten does consume it. It isn't the exact same immune response as an allergy (IgG & IgA with gluten-autoimmune vs. IgE with allergic), BUT it could cause the same effect, in this case...
  15. I secong this one! She also now practices in Marlette, Michigan a day a week, not sure which day.
  16. Celiac Specialties in Michigan has really good sugar cookies. I could eat the whole dozen when they come fresh out of the oven:) Luckily, I have NOT! They also have really good donuts. Also, Gluten Free Island Bakery in Siesta Key Florida-everything of theirs is great too!
  17. Thank you all for your posts and suggestions. Yes, there is a fridge there, and we already do have a couple of alternative things for her to have: pretzels, animal cookie/crackers, sandwich cookies, but I think I'll send more. There have already been twice where kids with birthdays have brought in "treats" and she had her special stash, thankfully. I did...
  18. Eric, Your post has inspired me to look further into yeast, I have wondered about it, but never REALLY kept track of my symptoms. I've never heard of Candex, but I will research it. How long do you have to be on it? What type of doctor did you get this from?
  19. My dd started 4yo preschool this year. We knew it would be a challenge with the gluten free diet, but I was totally optimistic and upbeat about it; "this is life so we might as well get used to it" is my attitude. We opted to keep away from play doh as it is only offered for a few minutes in the morning as an option when kids are arriving during the...
  20. I totally agree with juliebove....the cupcake maker was a complete waste of money, I would not recommend it. It just didn't work and all the little parts were terrible to clean up; the mixes do say they are processed in a facility that also processes wheat......it was just very disappointing.
  21. I would have to agree with the above statement. We have recently made Udi's our go-to for bread. The only problem is that it is really expensive if you have to order it directly from them (shipping) and they are really tiny loaves.....why can't anyone make a normal-sized gluten free bread?? Udi's is great even when it's not toasted.
  22. My daughter's teacher has informed me that coming up within a month or so, they will be making pasta Indian necklaces at school (before thanksgiving). She wanted me to know ahead of time so I could find a gluten-free alternative for my daughter (she's great, thankfully). The pasta she uses is rigatoni, which I found online, but also wagon wheels.......has...
  23. No, it's definately not. Apparently that med student needs to study a little more!
  24. My dd was 2 1/2 when she started the diet and I remember at 2 weeks we were astounded. The main difference was in her mood, she was just much happier and more playful. She also never had diarrhea, but rather suffered with constipation. It has been almost 2 years and we've recently taken her off her fiber supplement so that was a slow-go, but it's a journey...
  25. Please let me know what happens! I can't believe no one else has replied to this yet......I'll be patient .
