ARCHIVED Biopsy
KaitiUSA replied to kirstymorrison's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to be eating equal to about 2-3 pieces of bread a day for 3 months prior to testing. Have you been diagnosed or what made you go gluten free to start with? -
ARCHIVED Gf Brands, Mainstream Products, Or Pure Foods?
KaitiUSA replied to quantumsugar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am also super sensitive. I even react when I breathe it in. Anyways, I do eat gluten free specialty items as well as fruits and veggies and I do mainstream brands that won't hide anything too. I have been on the diet for almost 2 years and so far I have not had a problem with the brands that won't hide anything. Could you be reacting to something else... -
ARCHIVED Reading Books Or Watching Movies
KaitiUSA replied to SharonF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just think to myself that they are eating a gluten free meal but yep I do analyze what they eat. If it makes me hungry for that I will get a gluten free version of it...seeing gluten containing foods does not appeal to me anymore though because I know how sick it makes me...and who wants to be sick? -
ARCHIVED Thanks For The "duh" Moment
KaitiUSA replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well whats done is done...now you just have to make sure it doesn't happen so you don't do any more damage. Glad we all could help. -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
KaitiUSA replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nancy One of the best labs, if not the best in the U.S, for celiac blood testing is Prometheus Labs in California. You can find the complete panel they run for celiac on their website as well but I am listing it below. It was a bit on the expensive side but well worth it. I also had the celiac gene test done by them as well which showed I had one of the... -
Do you have the safe and forbidden lists so you know what to look for on labels? Do you have the 79 page Delphi List with the gluten free status of tons of products and foods? Do you have the list of the mainstream brands that will not hide anything even under otherwise questionable ingredients and clearly put wheat, rye, barley, oats on the label if they...

ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
KaitiUSA replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The tTG is needed and that is one of the tests in the complete panel. However, each test does play a role because the tTG is more towards detecting damage so if there is not damage yet there is a possibility that can come back negative but yet you still may have it. Don't get me wrong the tTG test is VERY accurate and the best blood test for celiac. The... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
KaitiUSA replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No you should not go gluten free before the biopsy! This can make the results useless because damage will start to heal. You need to be eating gluten(about equal to 2-3 pieces of bread a day for 3 months prior to testing) Also, blood tests are accurate if you get a complete panel done. There are some pretty specific tests in that panel. A biopsy can rule... -
You know we really find out who our friends are through times like this. Those people who you say got mad at you had no reason to. You had every right to do that. We don't allow gluten in our house either and we make the food when people come over...it's just not worth the risk. I am super sensitive even to airborne as well(I have a wheat allergy in addition...

ARCHIVED Can Gluten Make You Break Out W/o Stomach Problems
KaitiUSA replied to Emilynlukesmom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes that is possible. Everyone has different symptoms and some people don't have any GI related issues. Some people actually get no symptoms at all. From what I have heard it can take a while for the DH to clear up after going gluten free for some people though. -

Luvs2eat Merika is right.....you are not gluten free if you are eating that way with picking croutons off your salad. Even if you do not feel it that does damage more than you may think.

ARCHIVED Reliability Of Anti-tissue Transglutaminase
KaitiUSA replied to jajus100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
tTG is very specific for celiac and is more of an indicator of damage. I am a fan of the complete panel because the other tests they run detect a problem with gluten in the body and are all needed for their piece of the puzzle. I was diagnosed by blood tests alone and had the full panel done. I also had a gene test which showed I carry one of the main celiac... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free
KaitiUSA replied to prince caspian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep, the labels that say gluten free would be ok. You will find alot from health food stores marked gluten free but alot of mainstream in the regular store will not say gluten free even if they are. The Delphi List is 79 pages long with gluten free status of many products and foods so if you do not have that you should. Also, there are a list of mainstream... -
You find out who your real friends are when it gets tough. You see you can still do everything you once did...when you cook why not cook gluten free treats instead? There is alot you can make that is really good that they would not even know the difference and you still spend time together. You can go out to eat with them and if it's at a place that you...

My mom is getting ready to order me one...I have a severe wheat allergy so I should have got one a while ago...I will add celiac disease on there while I am at it.

ARCHIVED Wheat Free
KaitiUSA replied to prince caspian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wheat Free can't be considered gluten free because it most likely would have rye, barley, or oats in it which are not safe for celiacs. Also, since you have gone gluten free you can't get accurate results unless you get back on gluten. You need to be on gluten for about 3 months before testing eating about equal to 2-3 pieces of bread a day. -
Those reactions are rare although that can happen where they cause similar damage. However, with symptoms of celiac and flattened villi it does point to celiac so the best thing to do is go gluten free (make sure 100% because it's an all or nothing thing)then about 6 months from now get a biopsy again to see if the damage has got better or healed. That will...

Yea, the longer I was gluten free the more sensitive I became. Now when I am glutened I get nausea along with some other symptoms but I do not get vomiting so I do not know exactly what you are going through but I know how it is to feel bad. Feel better and just be careful with reading labels and so forth. You should get the lists available...the 79 page...

You have celiac. The damage is what is associated with celiac..without the damage it would not be celiac. Untreated celiac leads to tons of problems including increased chances in cancer, diabeters, osteoprosis, and other life threatening and disabling things...also takes an average of 10 years off of your life. Once you go gluten free though the risks go...

Your doctor is a dumb butt. If the biopsy showed positive you have it...does not matter what blood work says in that case. Some blood tests are more accurate then others but you obviously have celiac with destroyed villi. You need a new doctor...sounds like one of the many who knows nothing about celiac. Now, if the biopsy came back negative then you...

ARCHIVED Diagnosis At Puberty
KaitiUSA replied to mart's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She is at a young enough age that, if she is celiac and goes gluten free, she will grow if she is small because of celiac. I started menstruating at about 10 years of age and I grew alot since then. I was not small at that age but when my symptoms of celiac started I lost weight and I stopped getting taller. In the beginning of 2004 I was diagnosed...1... -
ARCHIVED Till I'm Blue In The Face!
KaitiUSA replied to Nicolette's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tell everyone I can about celiac. Some people get it and some people don't. For those that don't get it I feel sorry for them because I can't imagine how they get through life...there are much harder things to understand. If they don't get it don't worry about it. I know it can be frustrating...there are people I have told over and over again but still... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
KaitiUSA replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I totally agree with the previous post(by VydorScope) Who cares what other people think...that is not your problem. Not everyone will understand and not everyone will like you but thats life. I personally am proud to be celiac and I tell people about it every chance I get. Remember, NOBODY can make you feel inferior without your consent. -
If you like your job then stay there but don't leave because of what they are doing. If they don't understand then that is their problem. If you provided them with a note from the doctor and some facts about what you have then maybe they would back off however people like that who don't get it probably wouldn't care. If you do end up quiting because of...
