  1. Hey I'm near Frederick and myself as well as a friend of mine have been thinking of putting together a celiac group around the area so maybe we could all get together.
  2. You do however need to replace anything that is wooden and even teflon I believe should be replaced as well. Aside from that you just need to wash everything else thoroughly.
  3. It is a personal decision but, as celiac3270 listed, some of the chips are made on dedicated gluten free lines. Those would definitely not have gluten and if you have a problem from those it could be something else like an additive. Fritos, Ruffles, Lays (classic), Lays Stax (all flavors)........those are all made on a dedicated gluten free line so those...
  4. I don't know much about Cystic Fibrosis but she obviously has Celiac from the biopsy results. Cystic Fibrosis would NOT have produced a positive biopsy for celiac. The symptoms were most likely from that and would go away once being gluten free for a while(each person is different and some take longer for symptoms to go away) I am sure it probably is possible...
  5. The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT. Some people do not get symptoms. Some people may be fine for years then get symptoms for a while then have them go away again.Everyone is different but the one thing that is always true is you can not outgrow celiac and it does not go away. The only thing to control it is the gluten free diet at this point. Symptoms or not....
  6. He changed that so you don't get more boxes until more posts than that. I think it is now: 1-24 New community member(1 box) 25-74 Community member(3 boxes) 75+ Advanced community member(6 boxes)
  7. The number of posts determine that
  8. Many mainstream brands are made on the same lines as gluten(but they wash the lines in between)so there could realistically be a chance of cross contamination in alot. It's basically to cover their butt. I for one have not had a problem with Frito Lay products and eat them quite often. Other additives , such as MSG-which I try to really avoid, are known...
  9. It takes time to feel better on the diet so do not expect a radical change. There are so many things you still can have. Alot of junk food like regular chips, ice creams, candies, etc we can have. There are a # of mainstream brands, like Kraft, who will list wheat, rye, barley, oats right on labels or they will be safe. Those brands are posted on here in numerous...
  10. Glutano has some that are not too bad but not too great either(in my opinion that is)
  11. I had that alot pre diagnosis. It got better once I was on the diet but happens when my anxiety kicks up if I am glutened or something. Has your husband had his thyroid tested? Hyperthyroid can cause rapid heartbeat.(I have a form of hyperthyroid and that was one of my symptoms)
  12. Well maybe if you bring you own food and say you have celiac disease and can't eat anything or I think if you decided you were not going to eat anything then they would not charge you either. Maybe you can call ahead and talk to a manager? Sorry she chose there
  13. Nadine- Why not have the Lays STAXX chips....they are just like pringles and they are gluten free
  14. Yep corn gluten is fine for celiacs. All grains have gluten but not all is bad for us...just the wheat,rye,barley,oats...and things made with that stuff like kamut, spelt, etc. but things like rice and corn gluten are fine because that is a safe grain for us.
  15. They are gluten free but maybe there is something else in there that does not agree with her. Post is a Kraft brand so I trust them. I am personally fine with the products and have not had a problem so far with them. If they are not settling well with her then do not eat them.
  16. Instead of hitting reply scroll down a bit farther to the add reply and it will not quote anything from the previous post. Also, Enterolab is good for an alternative and if you want a stool test. Prometheus is a prominent lab for celiac testing but I do believe that they only do the blood work. Blood work with them has been very reliable though unlike...
  17. Do you mean Keith Olbermann from MSNBC? He supposedly has celiac.
  18. It will not show up in the section until it is pinned by a moderator. You can view the unpinned ones by going to "Today's Active Topics" It is in the baking/recipe section and is now pinned.
  19. Personally, I am for Prometheus 100%! They are a great lab for celiac testing.
  20. Yes, you should tell her to be tested for it.

    ARCHIVED Visit To A Dietitian

Beware because many dietitians are misinformed. I was told by one that I could have Spelt( a form of WHEAT!!!!!) Make sure you verify everything she says about products you can have though if you decide to go. This site in my opinion is your best resource for info and for you to learn it and verify it yourself is the best way because it's hard to trust...
  22. Neutrogena has a list of gluten free products. Dove products will clearly list wheat, rye, barley, oats right on the label if it contains any. I use their shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, and bar soap...that have other products though. Clearasil products are gluten free and I know they have a facewash.
  23. Yes, you do ingest it...thats the problem. It's not a concern from being absorbed its the concern of ingesting traces. It happens more than you may think. With soaps, if you wash your hands with gluten containing soap and then prepare your food then there are now traces in your food that leads to ingestion. With shampoos the water with the shampoo runs down...
  24. Shampoos, makeup, lotions, soaps ARE things to worry about. If you wash your hands with gluten containing soap and touch your food then your food has traces and can get into your digestive tract. Shampoos easily get into your mouth while washing your hair. I could name numerous ways you can get glutened by those things. Those are real concerns. You have to...
  25. Sounds like it could be celiac. Make sure the full panel is run. Also you need to be on gluten while testing. You should be on gluten for 3 months prior to testing and having equal to 2-3 pieces of bread a day. Otherwise tests could come back false.
