ARCHIVED Itchy/tingly Big Toes And Fingers
Wolicki replied to Zane's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You're very welcome. The good news now is that I feel fantastic. Better than I have in 20 years I have a 9 yr old, too. He has Celiac, and is now having some thyroid issues. It is so much harder to deal with when it is your little boy I am working hard on both of us having a positive attitude, and doing whatever we need to do to make him better... -
Jason, Have you seen a therapist yet? If you haven't, get on the phone now and make an appointment.

ARCHIVED What Should I Do?
Wolicki replied to jlp15515's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
the thing is, gluten intolerance likely wont show up on a biopsy or blood test, but can still produce the same symptoms as celiac. It's up to you, but a biopsy may be negative, too. Many here consider a positive dietary response a conclusive diagnosis. If you do decide to have a biopsy, go back on gluten for sure before the test. They say you have to... -
ARCHIVED New, Young, Very Very Sick
Wolicki replied to skipper240's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You learn by reading labels, and the safe foods list on this site, and by trial and error. Modified food starch in the US does NOT contain gluten. If it is derived from wheat, it must say "derived from wheat or wheat source." STart with whole, fresh unprocessed foods and it is a lot easier in the beginning. -
ARCHIVED Itchy/tingly Big Toes And Fingers
Wolicki replied to Zane's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh how frustrating. I know how awful it is when your baby is suffering. I used to itch uncontrollably before going gluten free. Did every allergy test known to man, and I am not "allergic" to anything. But still, Zyrtec made it tolerable. After going gluten free, I developed terrible neuropathy in my feet, then in moved up all the way to my face. It... -
ARCHIVED Constant Rumbling Stomach
Wolicki replied to tobie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was having the same issue. Sounded like a party going on in my insides- all the time. Turned out I had low stomach acid and not enough enzymes. Now supplementing with Betaine HCL before meals and enzymes after. It's very quiet inside now -
ARCHIVED Can Hypothyroid Make You Starving?
Wolicki replied to Wolicki's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, his B12 is over 700. The weird thing is his hemocrit, hemoglobin are all in the normal range. It's just his ferritin that was low. -
ARCHIVED Can Hypothyroid Make You Starving?
Wolicki replied to Wolicki's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks TH. It's just so frustrating. Me and my symptoms and issues are one thing, but my baby? Way tough -
Hi all, After I was diagnosed last summer, I had my sons tested. My 9 year old was positive and went gluten free in October. His ferritin was 12 at the time. For the last couple of months, he has been bingeing on food. One day last week, in one sitting early in the am, he at: a whole jar of PB, a big bag of tortilla chips and a bunch of fruit rollups...

Wolicki replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
these crackers are great! I've tried the sweet onion, sesame and garlic. All delicious! -
I see Dr. Andrew Mleynek. 714-845-5900. He's in HB, corner of Beach and Yorktown. Beach Family Doctors, they have a website, but I cant recall the IP. He's an Osteopathic Doctor. I switched to him about 6 months ago, because none of my doctors understood Celiac at all. He is very knowledgeable, and I love him. It was so nice to not have a doc suggest...

ARCHIVED I'm Always Worried Something Else Is Going On!
Wolicki replied to DonaldandAlanda Evans's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK, try to relax. It has been only a month. You were sick for a long time, and it takes time to heal. Everything you are experiencing is normal. It may take a bit longer for everything to get back to normal, especially the tingling. Stay gluten free, say thanks that you know what it is and you know how to fix it, and try to start enjoying life with that... -
ARCHIVED Is This Celiac Or Sensitivity To Gluten?
Wolicki replied to michelley65's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I guess I just don't understand why you would continue to eat gluten when you have such reactions. The lifelong cure for either Celiac or gluten intolerance is a 100% strict gluten free diet. Stick to the diet religiously if you want to feel better. It's not a part time thing. -
ARCHIVED Okay, Now That Reality Has Hit - I Am Faaaaaaa-Reaking Out
Wolicki replied to macocha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First step: Breathe! then Relax. You can do this! The thing you have going for you is that you know you feel better without gluten. Knowing that your son is going be be spared years of pain and intestinal damage will be enough to keep you going through the learning curve. I was diagnosed last July. My younger son was diagnosed in October at age 9.... -
B12
Wolicki replied to frustratedandtired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is rare to have a false positive blood test. Especially with low nutrient levels. I think you can safely call yourself Celiac. The biopsy is pretty simple and you won't remember it. They give you an amnesiac to take care of that. You go to sleep, you wake up. You might have a bit of a sore throat. There are like 35 ft of intestines, and docs take... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free For 1 Yr...am I Now Absorbing Nutrients?
Wolicki replied to kprince's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kathy, Have you had your thyroid checked? Hair loss is common with hypothryoid. Otherwise, if your vitamin levels are all normal, your intestines are probably healed. Probiotics are always good, along with Lglutamine supplements. HTH Janie -
ARCHIVED Hello All! Please Help, Confused And Learning
Wolicki replied to maclac74's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It certainly sounds like it could be celiac or gluten intolerance. Since you feel better off gluten, I am gonna guess that you have one or the other. If it is, then you need to be very strict with your diet. There are some very good replacements for bread (Udi's) and pasta (made from Quinoa). However, while your body is healing, it is best to stick to... -
Jackay PM me your daily diet. Let me see if I can help. I had secondary hyperparathyroidism too. Was fine before gluten free, then my body went CRAZY and my thyroid and parathyroid went wonky. After 5 months on Caltate +D plus 50,000 IU Vitamin D 3xweek, my parathyroid is once again normal. I've also been taking these supps: probiotics, enzymes...

ARCHIVED Getting "glutened" For The First Time
Wolicki replied to GFLindsey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
GI symptoms, 3-4 days. Muscle pain, exhaustion and weakness, up to 2 weeks -
Livestrong- you just go to the site, set up an account with a user name and password, go to the daily plate, then start adding things. It's very user friendly. I started with trying a little spoonful of rice when I made it for my kids. That went fine. The next time I had a tablespoon, then so on. Always start with a taste, then go from there. Wait...

Jackay, Trial and error, mostly. For about a month after going gluten free, I looked like I was 8 months pregnant. It was horrible and painful. Trapped gas in my chest and abdomen. I had started eating a lot of gluten free grains- rice, quinoa, amaranth, etc. Then one day, I read here about intolerances. So I stopped eating the major allergens, except...

ARCHIVED Please Help, Scared And Unsure
Wolicki replied to Mandy Armfield Jennings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mandy If your doctor is doing the Celiac panel blood test, you need to keep eating gluten, or you could get a false result. Same for the biopsy. Usually, you have your blood test, if it's positive, then the biopssy. If you have positive blood work, many believe that is enough for a diagnosis, and you can start the diet, strictly. It is possible that... -

When I bought these for my 9 year old, he said "are you sure these are gluten free?" They are that good!
