ARCHIVED Hot Dog And Hamburger Buns That Taste Good?

ARCHIVED Frustrated :(
Wolicki replied to curlingfan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you by chance get heartburn? The reason I ask is that I ended up with LOW stomach acid, thinking it was too much. One of the side effects, for me, of low stomach acid was soft unformed stools. Once I was diligent about taking HCL with every meal and enzymes after, bms are totally normal. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated :(
Wolicki replied to curlingfan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the same problem with nightshades. That intolerance took the longest to go away. Giving up tomoatoes was WAY worse than giving up gluten. AFter about 6 months nightshades were once again ok. My only lingering issue is broccoli. I have decided that I just don't like it enough to eat it again and not feel well. I don't care if it's good for you -

ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
Wolicki replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I looked up those two codes on Quest Diagnostics. They are for Hepatitis B and IBS. Looks like he did not order most of the tests in the standard celiac panel. Someone else can chime in with the full panel names, as I always forget one -

ARCHIVED Frustrated With Results Of Endo. Biopsy
Wolicki replied to Tummy Frustration's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Steph, It certainly seems you have the symptoms. So here are a couple of things to think about. You may very well be Celiac. The small intestine is over 30 ft long. It could be very easy to miss some of the damage. You may be gluten intolerant, which comes with all the symptoms of Celiac, but tests will always be negative. You've been so uncomfortable... -
ARCHIVED Renewed Lactose-Intolerance After Going Gluten-Free?
Wolicki replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, it's very common. The reason is because lactose is processed by the very same villi in the intestines that has been damaged by Celiac. Since you are new to the diet, just stay off dairy for a few months, then challenge it. I would say more than not overcome lactose intolerance once the intestines have a chance to heal. -
"gluten intolerance should likely go away on its own it a few years", your doctor says..... Wrong! I would suggest finding a new doctor. He's wrong. It does not go away on its own. You could possibly have Celiac. I am not sure if intolerance causes intestinal damage, but it sure does cause many of the exact same symptoms.

ARCHIVED White Blood Cell Count
Wolicki replied to Black Sheep's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had slightly elevated white cells, and that competing heavy metal band absolute eosonophils. My doc said it was from inflammation, probably that my intestines were still healing. Since they were both just over the limit, there was no need to worry. -
THe best advice I can offer is to try to focus on what you CAN have. For some people, they imagine gluten as rat poison. Really, it wouldn't make you sad knowing you can't have rat posion, right? Eating in the dark.....doesn't sound like anything I would want to try anyway You have control over your health and how you feel. Maybe you can use that...

ARCHIVED Never Ending Bloating -
Wolicki replied to pufffee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am thinking it's secondary food intolerances. Why not try an elimination diet? The common culprits for Celiacs are dairy, rice, corn, soy, nighshades and eggs. -
ARCHIVED Adhd Medications
Wolicki replied to Wolicki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you. We have changed meds and dosages several times. He's now taking Ritalin SR 40 mg in the am and a boost of regular Ritalin 10mg in the afternoon to get him through homework. He's actually doing beautifully on this combo. I just still really hate the idea of giving him drugs every day. I have some friends who have kids with Autism. They kept... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed...now What?
Wolicki replied to lcharpen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The time it takes to feel better is different for everyone. I felt immediately better, then took a turn for the worse because of vitamin deficiencies and secondary intolerances. I wrote this a few weeks ago to help newbies get through. HIH -
ARCHIVED Lots Of Food Intolerances--I'm Miserable!

Amaranth is pretty good too. I tried it for the first time a few months ago. It's as smaller grain than quinoa, and has a very different flavor. Sort of looks like Pastina. -

ARCHIVED Lots Of Food Intolerances--I'm Miserable!
Wolicki replied to Link's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I understand. My list was way, way longer than yours The good news is that most of them will probably go away. After about 7 months, mine all went away. What was I intolerant to: all grains including rice, corn, nightshade veggies, cruciferous vegetables, dairy, nuts, seeds, legumes and something else I am forgetting right now. I would venture a guess... -
