ARCHIVED Hey New To The Forums
Wolicki replied to Glutenfreenoobie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No PB and margarine (for the most part) do not contain gluten. But if someone else sticks a knife in the PB, then smears it on their bread, then sticks it back in the PB, then you can get glutened from the crumbs. a month and a half is not that long. You could still have lingering symptoms or have another intolerance that popped up after you went gluten... -
ARCHIVED Dating A Celiac
Wolicki replied to CNA5400's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Aww, what a considerate guy! I agree with Mskedi. And just be very careful when eating before you see her. Brush, wash face and mouthwash before kissing. And beer and some distilled drinks like bourbon are problems (even though drink makers say the gluten is distilled out, I can tell you from personal experience that it's not always the case). Have fun... -

It's ok, just call your favorite wineries, and stick to those brands. I've found that most are ok -

Wolicki replied to Glutenfreenoobie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would say based on positive dietary response, you are one of us. The thing to do is to look at everything: prescriptions, OTC meds, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. If you live in a gluteny household, get your own toaster, condiments, etc. because YES someone douple dipping a knife into the peanut butter or margarine can make you sick! It also helps most to... -

are you sure he is adhering to the diet? Because most rice krispies and cornflakes contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Almond Butter?
Wolicki replied to nyctexangal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had secondary intolerances to all nuts and seeds for a few months after going gluten free. I also had issues with my sons dipping their gluteny stuff into the nut butters before they went gluten free as well. Shared household? And did you eat it plain or on something? These are the fun detective duties we get to perform when learning the ropes -
ARCHIVED Chest Pain Or Costochondritis?
Wolicki replied to nyctexangal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Intolerance symptoms vary from person to person, but many here get gluten like symptoms. My main complaint with secondary intolerances were gas, bloating and heartburn. The only thing I could take prior to going gluten free to ease the chest pain was prednisone That's bad stuff. It would get so bad I couldn't stand it, so I would have to take the steroids... -
ARCHIVED Chest Pain Or Costochondritis?
Wolicki replied to nyctexangal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. I had either costocondritis or pleurisy on and off for almost 10 years. It was debilitating. It went away within 2 days of going gluten free and <knock on wood> hasn't come back with glutening by accident. If you're sure you're not getting gluten either thru cc or personal products, maybe it's a secondary intolerance giving you symptoms? -
ARCHIVED Why Are The Intolerances Growing?
Wolicki replied to Mittens6043's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Aww <tears in eyes?, thanks Jackie. I am so glad you are feeling better! Soemtimes it seems like the cure is gonna kill us, but then we actually feel so great it was worth it! The hardest thing for people to realize is that Food is for fuel only. Now this comes from a former FOODIE with all caps I own about 500 cookbooks, watched only the Food... -
sounds like fun! have a good time and try not to stress too much. My only helpful advice would be to get a load of Triumph Dining Cards in Spanish. That should help a bit. Adios!

ARCHIVED Anyone Know Anything About Avocado Allergies?
Wolicki replied to Black Sheep's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Probably the avocados then! Yes, very common for other foods to be problems AFTER. That's how it was for me. I don't think they are a common allergen, but neither is broccoli -
ARCHIVED Nature Made Acidophilus Probiotics
Wolicki replied to twe0708's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
i've heard the same. I use KAL brand pro-b. Keep it in the fridge. I know it helped to heal my intestines and keeps things regular. I just started giving them to my son, and it is helping him too. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated Beyond Words....
Wolicki replied to Bobbijo6681's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've heard some people, my Granny included, who got stones in the bile duct where the GB used to be. Maybe the HIDA can find that? Back when mine was wonky, they didn't have that scan, just the upper GI (thanks Roda!) Gosh I hope you feel better soon! -
ARCHIVED Very Frustrated!
Wolicki replied to Katie B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's my opinion. Why not wait until you get the other issues under control, since symptoms can be misleading. Stay on your meds, get rid of the bad bugs. Once all that is done, then try out eating some gluten and see how you react. You will know pretty quickly if it is the problem. Celiac is not one of those black and white diagnoses. Since the effects... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Know Anything About Avocado Allergies?
Wolicki replied to Black Sheep's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Are you certain that the chips are gluten free and that the reaction is not to an ingredient in the chips? Did you eat chips and guac together both times? Sometimes it is tricky to figure out. Since you are new to the diet, I would guess it is probably a secondary food intolerance. I don't know how common it is to develop a sensitivity to avocado, cut... -
ARCHIVED Results From Enterolab-Please Give Opinion
Wolicki replied to abergop's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's a really hard lesson I learned. Sometimes, you have to trust your own body, because doctors just can't understand that there could be something wrong if they can't "see" it on a blood test/biopsy. You'll save yourself a whole lot of tears by just accepting that you feel better this way, and try to let that be enough. As for your kids, do they have... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated Beyond Words....
Wolicki replied to Bobbijo6681's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are many here who have had elevated liver enzymes and it is associated with celiac. I agree with GFinDC, have your gallbladder checked. Usually an ultrasound and/or a test whose name I cannot recall because my brain is mush today where you swallow barium and they take xrays. Someone help me with the name? Everyone in my family, on both sides... -
ARCHIVED Jim Beam Bourbon
Wolicki replied to Tigercat17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok, this might be controversial, but I had an issue with a Chardonnay a few months back. I can't remember now if it is Chilean or Argentinian wine, but they use some kind of wheat in the cork/cover. I think if you search this site you can find the info. That's the only issue I've ever had, and I do like me some wine too -

ARCHIVED Jim Beam Bourbon
Wolicki replied to Tigercat17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My bf was drinking Scotch and bourbon, and I got glutened from kissing him. I've had similar gluten reactions with Irish Cream, which is supposed to have the gluten distilled out. I don't chance it anymore. -
ARCHIVED Blood + And Egd Negative
Wolicki replied to dsepa730's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With a postive ttg, you most likely are Celiac. False positives are very rare. Did you have a biopsy of the small intestine? If not, then your endo was not correct. Plus, even if you did, the small intesine is over 30 feet. You should have had a small intesine biopsy with at least 6 samples. Xrays will do no good in diagnosing Celiac. Why does he now... -
ARCHIVED So Confused Right Now
Wolicki replied to Sandi575's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can absolutely be a problem. If he is going to continue to drink beer, maybe you can have him drink a gluten free beer? If not, then he has to wash his face thoroughly, brush his teeth and use a good strong mouthwash like Listerine before you kiss him. Otherwise, he is going to suffer from a lack of affection! I got glutenated when my bf drank scotch...
