  1. Avalon Organics. All of their products are great!
  2. I had a GI fungal infection, from my throat down to my intestines. It was terrible. I took Diflucan daily for 60 days, 30 days off, and 30 days on again. This, along with massive doses of probiotics, did the trick finally. A GI can predscribe.
  3. My son was eating like a crazy boy for months after his celiac diagnosis. He would eat a whole jar of peanut butter, then a giant bag of tortilla chips and 6 yogurts. This kept going on and on. His thyroid went wonky, then we ended up getting a million blood tests. Thankfully, I figured it out: DAIRY. He was intolerant of dairy, and had malabsorption...
  4. I second the probiotics. I looked 8 months for 3 months solid. After a year, I decided maybe I didn't need the pro b's daily, so I stopped. Within 2 days I was back up to 5 months. I think I will need them for life. Hang in there!
  5. I am with you. It makes everything tasste beany I use a sorghum flour instead of garbanzo flour. I have started mixing my own blends. I just replace the ones I don't care for. I think brown rice flour is also a good sub.
  6. Ken, I think it depends on whether you have primary or secondary as to how it's treated. Since mine was secondary (based on blood calcium levels being normal) I was prescribed 2 caltrate +d per day plus 50,000 IU vitamin D 3 times a week. I think if you have high blood calcium, it means primary hyper PTH. Since I didn't have that, I have not researched...
  7. I had my parathyroid tested many times in my life, including 3 months prior to diagnosis with Celiac after 10 yrs of illness. Shortly after going gluten free, my parathyroid and thyroid went wonky. I had secondary hyperparathyroidism and hypothyroidism. I was prescribed massive doses of calcium and vitamin D. Within a year, the PTH was back to normal...
  8. Most Vietnamese dishes are gluten free. Some have hoisin sauce, which in most cases ,has gluten. I go to the Asian superstore and buy the kind with no gluten so I can still enjoy a hot bowl of Pho. Most sauces in Vietnamese cooking have fish sauce, oil, some sesame oil, lime juice. Most will understand "soy sauce." Very few of the dishes have soy sauce...
  9. The regular fruit flavor tums are gluten free. Rolaids- soft chews only- are NOT gluten free. They're made on shared lines and got me sooooo sick. When I was pregnant, I took Gaviscon, recommended by my OB. That was prediagnosis, so I don't know if it is safe.
  10. Happy Happy Happy Birthday Jackay! I am so glad for you. We all know what a blessing it is when someone says, "Well, you have your health!" I am so proud of you. You have come a long way! Janie
  11. Oh, phew! Thank you for your reply. Just knowing someone else has had it is a huge relief! There have been more than a few things that I have had that no one else has ever experienced. No weird vibrations this am so far! Thanks a bunch.
  12. Ha, that's funny. No, no baby. It's not like that fluttery feeling, it feels like a pager is going off in my belly. Right smack in the middle, between the pubic bone and belly button. Ooh I just dated myself didn't I? Some here wont know what a pager vibrating feels like OK so for the younger folk, imagine your cell phone on vibrate. I always knew...
  13. Hi all. So, yes I know this is going to sound flat out weird, but we talk about everything so here goes: for the last two days, I have been getting this very strange sensation that feels like an intermittent internal vibration. It's between my hip bones, so I am thinking it's intestinal in nature. When I put my hands over that area, I can't feel...
  14. You need to stick with the diet strictly. You are very likely experiencing gluten withdrawal. It can be pretty severe. You have to just ride through it- the fatigue, brain fog, etc. It does go away! Good luck.
  15. My son, who previous to Celiac lived on PB&J sandwiches, now cannot live without ricecakes with peanut butter. I buy Trader Joe's rice cakes ($1.29 for 10) and smear with peanut butter. I wrap it in foil, then add a banana, apple or orange, a container of applesauce or fruit rollup, some nuts or tortilla chips and a juice box. My older son is more...
  16. It sounds like you have not been strictly gluten free (soy sauce and beef broth). Since you had initial improvement, then declined again, I would guess it is because you are getting trace amounts of gluten. Since you are probably very sensitive, I would recommend going completely dairy free as well. My son was gluten free for over 6 months before he...
  17. At Mothers Market in Orange County, some of the stores put it on the shelf with the regular bread. Not even refrigerated! I leave mine in the fridge after taking it out of the freezer.
  18. That is very cool. I had an answer in less than 30 seconds!
  19. I was first diagnosed with costochondritis at age 19 and suffered on and off for almost 10 years. Then the costo magically "went away" and it became pleurisy. Whatever you want to call it, it was awful pain, stabbing, I thought I was having a heart attack. It went on for weeks unless I took a round of prednisone. Finally after 10 more years, they finally...
  20. You probably reacted to a pan, utensil, cutting board or some such that was harboring hidden gluten. That is one of the hazards in a gluteny household. I hope it passes for you quickly.
  21. Exactly what she said up there, LOL. Blood tests are rarely wrong. Biopsies are frequently wrong. There are over 35 feet of intestine and it's easy to miss a spot. Be strict on the diet. Keep a food diary to be sure she does not have secondary food intolerances and good luck.
  22. A gluten allergy can be anaphalactic in nature- closing of the airway, etc. Celiac and gluten intolerance can be very, very similar. Symptoms can be identical. The main difference is that Celiac causes intestinal damage, while intolerance does not. Just because there is no damage, this does not mean it is less pain and illness. There are many who believe...
  23. Children's blood tests are notoriously wrong. They're just not reliable. Or he could be non celiac gluten intolerant. That will never show up on a blood test, but it still causes lots of problems.
  24. I got fed up trying to figure out what the problem was, so I did a pretty drastic diet for a week. Nothing but homemade chicken soup. I make pretty good chicken soup, so it wasn't so bad. Chicken, carrots, onions, celery, pepper, salt, parsley and tumeric. Nothing else for one week. Then I added things in one by one. It made a huge difference, because...
  25. Really, it's not a death sentence. Take it from this life long foodie. Life revolved around food. I come from a long line of foodies. There was no bigger foodie than me. And I am not exxagerating. So, it's been almost one year since diagnosis. And yes, the first few months were tough. Now, I am a fairly good baker. With gluten free flours. I hated...
