  1. Kids are suprisingly resilient. My little boy had the opposite problem, he was always very thin. He was 9 at diagnosis. He is doing so well now, normal weight, no more health issues at all, and has a deep understanding of what he can/cannot eat. He has turned into a little motivational speaker on the merits of healthy eating. It will be ok. Your little...
  2. Welcome to the board! You will find a ton of "kindred souls" here, because they have been throught the exact same things you are experiencing. Do a google search of "gluten free name of city" and it will give you some options for the munchies and find some great replacement products. Good luck to you! I am in OC in California, so if you are close when...
  3. Unfortunately, it takes a while for everything to start working the way nature intended. Hange in there, and maybe add a good gluten free probiotic to your regimen.
  4. I've had several. I was dx'd with osteoporosis and osteopenia at 34, and it kept getting worse every year, even with reclast injections. Once I was dx'd celiac, I am sure to take my calcium and D religiously and exercise 5 times a week. My most recent (first post diagnosis) dexa scan showed "dramatic improvement," with no drugs. Doc was astonished and...
  5. Each of the Disney Resorts is like being in gluten free heaven. Each park has options in almost every eatery. Here in California, you check in at Town Hall and they give you a list (4 pages long!) of what is available. I went to a luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel with 800 guests, and called in advance. They told me not to worry, just to let my server...

    ARCHIVED Chia Seed

I love Chia seeds. The only problem is they get really stuck in your teeth. Nice crunchy little treat added to yogurt:)
  7. Yes, they are called grits. The best brand, IMHO is Albers. Second would be Quaker.
  8. As they say in "My Cousin Vinny," "no self respecting southerner would eat instant grits." And I say "Ewwwww!", LOL. The 5 minute grits or the long cooking grits are MUCH better!
  9. I use my George Foreman grill almost daily. McCormick makes a seasoning blend that has cinnamon and chipolte and it is wonderful on fish, chicken and beef. I've also used it on pork roasts in the crock pot to make "carnitas" in a healthy way. With any good seasonings, that grill is my best friend
  10. I also has issues with low blood pressure and slow pulse. I was also prescribed Florinef, which I took for about 3 years. IT helped some, but it also gave me life threatening low levels of potassium. I was always on a supplement. My BP was usually around 70 over 35. My doc kept threatening to hospitalize me for it. And when I was in the hospital due...
  11. Yeah, I had that too. Seems when there's a lot of damage done to your intestines, many food intolerances can crop up. I was giganticly bloated for 4-5 months. Maybe try eliminating things to give your system a chance to heal, and learn how to properly process food for a while. My biggest offenders were grains of any kind (corn and rice), legumes and...
  12. I usually find them at Whole Foods, next to the gourmet tortillas (refrigerated section) and at Mother's Market. Every now and again, I find them at Sprouts. Hopefully you have some of those stores close by.
  13. Yeah, it sometimes takes a while to feel human again. I felt great for a few days, then all kinds of weird new things started like fluid retention, neuropathy and everything I ate turned on me 6 months into it, I felt like a kid again. Not a bad feat for being over 40, LOL. Hang in there!
  14. Moist heat definitely does the trick. My son eats bean burritos with corn tortillas all the time. Every now and again, I splurge on French Meadow "flour" tortillas. They're really tasty and are almost exactly like the gluteny flour tortillas. Can't afford them regularly though because it's about $5 for 6. Any my son is a growing boy! He could eat them...
  15. Yeah, I can eat almost anykind of micro corn, or air popped. But there's something in the Target popcorn hiding. All my celiac friends here have the same issue, so it's gotta be hidden gluten.
  16. Target popcorn just is not safe. Don't know why because the labels seem to indicate it is safe. My son and I BOTH get very sick eating popcorn from Target
  17. Maybe this article will help: Open Original Shared Link Seems like Celiac to me...
  18. The meetups always get cancelled. I get the notices and then I get the cancellations. That's why we formed our own!
  19. I have had similar problems in the past, and it turned out to be hyporchlorydia- low stomach acid. The effects are similar to GERD. Problem is I was prescibed acid blockers for over 20 years, so now I have no stomach acid or enzymes. So I take Betaine HCL and enzymes and the problems were resolved.
  20. That guy's post really irritated me. Made me (just for a moment) wish that he was a very sensitive celiac being told that his actions seem extreme. Butthead Just to be clear, the butthead is the guy arguing on the thread about destroying gluten, not this forum
  21. If you are going to pursue further testing (endoscopy) then you must keep her on a full gluten diet. Blood tests are rarely false positive. I am celiac and my son tested positive on blood tests. We chose not to do the biopsy, and to go gluten free. He agrees it is the best decision he has ever made, even at 9 years old. It's up to you. You can put...
  22. I remember how great this stuff is from when I was a kid! I have baby fine hair, and have always missed it. I went into the 99 cents store today and found it! Still smells the same and gluten free!
  23. Yay! So glad you liked it! I never did the jelly on top thing, just my Granny because she had a major sweet tooth. That's my favorite breakfast. Mooshed is best

    ARCHIVED Fosamax

I've had osteoporosis and osteopenia since I was 35, due to undiagnosed celiac until I was 43. I took Reclast annual injections for years, with no side effects, but no improvements either. I was due for another injection in July 2008, but I was too sick to get it, as I had just finally learned I had celiac. I started Caltrate twice per day, 5000IU vitamin...
  25. I didn't have allergic reactions, per se, but had many intolerances that gradually resolved. I had brain fog, digestive issues from: corn, rice, beans, cruciferous veggies, dairy, nuts, seeds, and lots more. Maybe try an elimination diet and keep a food journal to figure it out. Start by eliminating the top 8 allergens from your diet. Feel better soon...
