  1. I just need a moment to vent. I went to a very fancy hotel yesterday in Newport Beach for a luncheon. There were about 500 people there. I knew I might just end up with some lettuce, but i was ok with that. They served me a wheat laden plate. I politely explained that I couldn't have gluten. Got the blank stare. The I explained that I am allergic to...

    ARCHIVED Anemia

I am not seeing a neurologist. Frankly, I would rather poke myself in the eyes with sharp sticks than to go see yet another doctor My PCP gave me the shot yesterday.
  3. Put the "Thriller" dance on youtube so we can see it!!

  4. The vanilla syrup does not contain gluten, but the vanilla powder in the little shakers next to the he risk of straws does. I guess the risk of cc is high at STarbucks. I drink a sugar free vanilla iced coffee with soy every day witn no problems, but with hot drinks, all they really do is wipe down the spout thing with a towel. Perhaps you could switch...
  5. I make "ramen" for my boys all the time. Just cook some rice noodles in some chicken broth and add some gluten free soy sauce. Add some chicken and veg and you're good to go! If you have an Asian market close by, you can get noodles in any shape. Otherwise, just look on the Asian aisle at your supermarket!
  6. As you browse around here, you will find that many of us have experienced the same thing. I think that docs start pulling the "it's all in your head" card when they don't know or are not willing to dig until they find what is wrong. I was sick for 10 years and diagnosed with everything under the sun before the Celiac dx. I didn't have any of those things...
  7. Blood tests are notoriously unreliable. My son and I both tested IGA positive, with negative IGG and TTG, yet we both have Celiac. IGA positive is a "less reliable" indictor for Celiac, because many kinds of inflammation can cause elevated IGA. Does your daughter have symptoms?
  8. So, I emailed Starbucks about the GB syrup and haven't heard back. I went in this am amd read the lable on the bottle, and there is nothing listed as gluten, but does list that elusive "natural flavors." I'm always leery of that.
  9. I really like Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. It's comes in scented or non. Great for dry hands!
  10. Yes, I think it's safe to say. You may find, as many of us have, that many times your own body knows better than your doctor. False negatives are very common with blood tests. If you feel better off gluten, then you have your answer. You will find many friends here. Feel better soon!
  11. I had that for about 3 months after going gluten-free. Prior to the diet I had chronic C. I don't know why it looked like that, but it eventually stopped.
  12. We should come up with a "Celiac.com Approved" stamp for med records and a button to go with it. Med files with this stamp and anyone wearing a button will never be given any crap about anything ever again from medical professionals or well meaning family. Don't you all think that would be great?
  13. I've had reactions to it a couple of times when I just started the diet. Ben and Jerry's amd Cheetos. I think it was just because my intestines were so messed up. MD made in the US does not contain gluten, but you may be having a secondary intolerance to it. I seem to be ok with it now.
  14. Quaker rice cakes may contain gluten thru CC. I get the gurgles wh Then I eat them. Trader Joes rice cakes are safe:) It would be a real bummer if the gingerbread syrup isn't gluten-free I will check on that!

I take a multi with folate, and my labs are in the mid range of normal for folate. How long on injections til the neuropathy goes away?

  17. As far as i know, surgery is the only way to deal with gallstones. Luckily, they can do it laproscopically and you go home within a couple of hours. I had mine out in the olden days with a 6 inch incision and 4 days in the hospital. About a year later, my 80 year old Granny had hers done by lapro and went home the same day with no problems. Good luck to...

    ARCHIVED Anemia

Funny you should mention that. I was just looking into that yesterday. I think I've been tested for everything except for intrinsic factor, unless it's called something else on a lab slip. Is it called "intrinsic factor" on the lab report?
  19. My endo uses the old standards. I am waiting for an appointment with a new guy next month. In the meantime, I would love opinions about what treatment you are receiving. He wrote me a scrip for Levoxyl, 7mcg, which is WAY too low a dose, according to the package insert. I wonder if those of you with similar labs take Cytomel or other T3 scrips? Here...

    ARCHIVED Anemia

Hi All, I've been anemic on and off me entire life. Before going gluten-free, I had iron infusions annually via IV. Since going gluten-free, I am anemic again. I can now tolerate oral iron, but really have a lot of iron deficient symptoms, and am considering doing the infusion thing again. Have any of you done this since going gluten-free? Did it...
  21. Relax and breathe! It will all be ok. I was fine with a gluten-free diet, then got really nervous when my son was diagnosed. He too loves crackers, bread etc. BTW if anyone knows of something like Goldfish crackers that are gluten-free, please yell loudly My son is also very picky, but I had a successful first run last weekend baking gluten-free...
  22. According to the American Endocrinology Association, TSH levels above 3.0 indicate Hypothyroid, which needs to be treated. Unfortunately, too many Endos look at the old levels. They need to be re-educated
  23. Yes they can I had them pretty bad from constant C . It took about a month and daily probiotics, but they're gone ! I hope yours go away soon!
  24. OK, the first thing you need to do is BREATHE This is just something new you have to learn. Like times tables or square roots. You get to become a detective! Seriously, I've only been at this for 4 months, and I am already somewhat of an expert My kids just started gluten-free two weeks ago, so I am learning how to bake gluten-free for them...
  25. I am switching doctors because my Endo is a jerk. He wants me to come back in December, but hasn't ordered any more labs, because he doesn't believe my thyroid is an issue. 3 different doctors have said I AM hypo, but want the Endo to treat it, and he thinks I am full of beans. Doctors....grrrrr
