  1. My kids are homeschooled too actually, but situations like being at Grandma's house or the neighbor's house were still there.
  2. It's just me and the kids right now. Hubby is usually home on Fridays (works a 4 day work week) but he's off helping friends move. The kids and I are having sauteed chicken free strips with veggies (cabbage, carrots, and broccoli) and rainbow quinoa. I tried out a new type of soy sauce and I really like it! It is San-J Tamari Lite. https://www.google...
  3. OP, have you tried clove oil for your toothache? I used that after my wisdom tooth extraction.
  4. I don't think that's unreasonable. I can think of one other member here who doesn't allow gluten in her house either. It's all up to your personal comfort level.
  5. But she wasn't asking her friends to bring gluten free stuff, she was asking them not to bring food at all, if I understand correctly.
  6. Gluten and soy free together is a tough one. Probably the easiest way to do it is to buy basic whole foods (fresh fruits, veggies, meats, nuts, beans, eggs, dairy, rice, quinoa, etc.) and for treats, to buy stuff from a known safe producer. For example, if you want gluten free, soy free chocolate chips, Enjoy Life is free of the top 8 allergens and is gluten...
  7. Sounds like I'm not the only one who likes to splurge on Ore Ida stuff. I took the kids out to Fazoli's for spaghetti and breadsticks to get their gluten quotient in for the day and I pretty much had to live on peaches, peanut butter, and apple slices until my shopping trip was finished. As my daughter put it, "Mama, the only thing that you can eat here...
  8. I think that generally speaking, children absolutely do need a DX and they need as bullet proof of one as possible. If my daughter tests positive on the bloodwork, I absolutely will take her to a GI and do the whole route. Children are in so many situations with caretakers in their lives that it is absolutely critical that there be no doubt of the need to...
  9. It was so wonderful to have a doc who would dialog with me. My old doctor was so quick and non-communicative that I always got the impression that he was trying to get rid of me or move on to the next patient. The new doctor I wrote a report for, about my daughter's symptoms, etc. and she actually read it, wrote notes on it, and really appreciated it...
  10. Is switching schools an option, OP?
  11. The gluten eating kids are gobbling up the Pamela's bread. Good stuff! Apparently the batter wasn't too thick.
  12. Thanks Irish. My silicone spatulas have all been fine, but I suppose that I don't subject them to as much wear and tear as I would a spoon. I have some like this: Open Original Shared Link I also have a silicone spatula with a metal handle, but of course, I don't attempt to make bread with it.
  13. My silicone spoon snapped right off its metal handle while whipping up a batch of Pamela's bread this morning. I'm thinking that I need a one piece design. Anybody know of any stores that sell silicone spoons that can't separate from their handle? Either that, or mostly use metal and wooden spoons. My cheaper silicone spoons with a plastic handle also...
  14. Actually I'm not really sure whether it is a shared line or not. Would they have disclosed it if it was processed on the same line? I called the company and they said that they didn't label it gluten free because there were gluten containing soy sauces processed in the same facility. It's Tree of Life organic wheat free tamari sauce.
  15. Is cross contamination a huge risk in a soy sauce factory? Would you eat a soy sauce that had no gluten ingredients but was processed in a facility with gluten containing soy sauces? Thank you for any insights.
  16. I really like to drink Switch on occasion. And it states "gluten free" on the can, so no worries there. Open Original Shared Link
  17. Pretty much it's next to impossible to get in a gluten free food rut when living in a small town--as soon as I get attached to a gluten free product, the stores stop carrying it. Canyon Bakehouse is my favorite but regrettably it didn't last long here, before the store discontinued it. I've tried ordering it via mail before and the day that I got it delivered...
  18. I was thinking that the only way around this was to stop by and make your kids' lunch at the tables in the grocery store--except the grocery store probably isn't a nut free facility either.
  19. So they are saying that every family in the school must run a nut free kitchen?
  20. Here's a great thread that I read whenever I need a pep talk on the subject: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/98359-always-bring-your-own-food/
  21. I saw her doctor today and everything went very well! She ordered a celiac panel, among other things, and also referred us to a pediatric dermatologist at University of Michigan, she said that my daughter had one of the most advanced cases of vitiligo that she had ever seen in someone that age.
  22. My splurge today was a Justin's peanut butter cup from the health food store. Yum! Today was a blur of activity and appointments with my 8 year old daughter's doctor's appointment (got the celiac panel ordered, yay!) and my husband getting his 3 unit bridge done, so I'm going easy for supper. Vegan seafood with tartar sauce.
  23. Well another hurdle is down! I saw my daughter's new doctor today and she was awesome! She's referring us to a pediatric dermatologist (she said that my daughter had one of the worst cases of vitiligo that she had seen in an 8 year old), among other things, and had no problem ordering a celiac panel for us to do after the 3 month mark of gluten challenge...
  24. I'm glad that you have an answer, but sorry that the answer frustrates you. Best wishes in healing!
