  1. I bet going dairy free will help other food intolerances. I hated giving it up too! But I hear in your words you are at the point where you just want to feel better. Dairy free will help best of all. The rest. . . well, one day at a time, no? -Daisy
  2. Just my thoughts--even though the word disease has some negative connotations for some, I think it helps people realize how serious it is if we were to get even a hint of wheat, barley, or rye in our food. I'm not shy about saying, "I have Celiac Disease" for that reason alone. I want my waitstaff to know that it is very serious that they handle my food...
  3. What about other starchy type foods? I now go for mashed potatos, macaroni and cheese, and of course, ice cream! (I know, ice cream isn't starchy, but it is a comfort food!!!) For me, my depression went away when I went gluten free, and I was able to stop taking my meds. So you may be putting yourself into a worsening cycle just by eating bread. Just...
  4. Osteoporosis is a bone disease caused by brittle bones, resulting in fractures. Woman are prone to get it because of menopause, and a tendecy to not get enough calcium. Men can still get Osteo, but it is more common among women. Open Original Shared Link When we have celiac disease, but are not gluten free, we are at an increased risk for osteoporosis...
  5. Okay. Now that we have more info--One thing that popped into my head too is that script for vicodin. Is it gluten free? talk to your pharmacist. Here's a great resource-- Open Original Shared Link For me the pain did take a while to go away after going gluten free. I think that was just because my intestines we super damaged, and anytime I did...
  6. Reading your post reminded me of my own journey. Hopefully you can end up like I did, with an answer, and feeling about a million times better. Have you asked your Dr. for pain meds? Take what you need to in order to get through the day. That is what is important now. I would just say to follow all the appts., they are annoying and tedious, but everything...
  7. I'm so happy for you that your new roomie is so understanding! That makes all the difference, I bet! Best of luck on your recovery, and I'm so glad you were able to speak up and get the help you needed. And hopefully that old roomie will end up with some karma back at her someday. Best wishes! -Daisy
  8. (((Hugs)))) I still hate the social food part. So I feel you there! Every time I turn around at work--it's something else with FOOD. Half the time I politely excuse myself, either by a "no, I can't eat safely there," or, I'll be busy then, but thanks for thinking of me!" The other half I have a drink and stay away from the food. Except the one time...
  9. Here's a little of my story. I thought I had an ulcer. It would come back whenever I was stressed. And so to 'tame' the stomach acid, I would chow down on bagels. Umm, and cookies! I was stressed! I needed them!! It was theraputic. Then I started getting REALLY sick--like the pain was so bad (from an additional stomach virus) that I was taking percocet...
  10. Coming up on my one year marker, I'm down to no soda. Have tried to determine if it was the 'evil' high fructose corn syrup vs. natural sugar sodas, but both seem to bother me equally. I miss that afternoon pick-me-up. Just my thoughts. I can't have soy anymore either though, so that lets out all but two dishes at PF Changs. They are good ones, though...
  11. Agreed! Ted's in Denver (Lakewood and Littleton) have both been amazing. Although this thread is old, it seems as if Ted's has caught on to the Gluten Free Life and can cater to us with great food. YUUUUUMMMMMM! -Daisy
  12. I had accupunture therapy for migraines 10 years ago. It was a huge, amazing help. It does take a while to help. At first I was going 3 times a week, and I wasn't noticing any improvement even 2-3 weeks in. But my mom noticed that my mood was better, and that was enough to convince me to keep going. I am so glad I did! Will it help with symptoms?...
  13. I'm sorry to say this, but your Dr. should be reminded that as Celiac is an auto-immune disease, that is considered chronic. Really? He said that? Wow. Ok. My work is a bit different with regards to fmla, as they allow us to use Paid Time Off for our absences. But, as I recall from a training session, the latest (as far as fed. law goes), is that...
  14. Safe! You'll want to watch for Tocopheryl Acetate. It is the chemical which provides vitamin E, and may be sourced from Wheat. -Daisy
  15. Name brand Advil is safe. I've been okay with the Kroger brand generic ibuprofen too, but I'm not even brave enough to try anything else. -Daisy
  16. My husband follows a gluten free diet with me. Your boyfriend could always consider this as a non-processed food diet. Which, as WE all know, is extremely healthy! No more nasty preservatives; fresh, whole foods to fill you up instead. Good stuff. And my husband and I have learned the bonus of spending more time together fixing meals together, instead...

    ARCHIVED Insomnia

Welcome, Lane! Here's what I found from their website. For customer service, call 800-727-1664, Monday through Friday, 6 AM to 7 PM PST. Yea, not so much help with the list of ingredients. . . but maybe if you call they can be a little more helpful. Best of luck! -Daisy
  18. Yep. That rings a bell. I had to use lactaid for about 5 looooong months. But it helped me. Now all is ok. I may be stretching that time frame a bit--but it sure seemed to last forever! -Daisy
  19. Banana's? They are good too, right? I can sympathize with how you feel. I know soy is a total problem for me, but I keep thinking there's something else that is keeping me from being 100%. Or what I think 100% should be? Should I cut out x, y, z? AHHHHH!!! You can do this! And you are much stronger than I am, being willing to search to find the culprit...
  20. My thoughts? Make sure you have the unwavering support of your immediate family. Your husband's support will be the best help in dealing with less than supportive family. Mine has been a champion! Recruit as many others on your side to help with that difficult cousin also. There is much to be said for sticking up for yourself, which we all always do...
  21. And after all that good news, I have to report that my Red Robin experience was not happy. It started off well, with the waiter getting the gluten and soy allergy menus, and checking to see if the fries were fried in soy oil, etc. And as soon as I was done eating, the restroom called. So at the very least, the RR in Centennial, CO is out. At least for...
  22. Blue Bonnet on Broadway just south of Alameda is a lifesaver. There are several Montana Ted's around, pricier, but safe, and I am so sensitive, it is beyond annoying. If you like mexican, along with Blue Bonnet, Hacienda Colorado has a few locations around town. About $8-13 per meal, but I avoid the chips and don't have a problem. Blue Sky Cafe is...
  23. So I was diagnosed in July last year, and my family was tested because of it. Both my sister and my mom were diagnosed, but my sister never has any symptoms from eating gluten, and so does not worry about cross contamination. She just eats foods without wheat. My mom "doesn't have time" to take the diet seriously, and so sticks to it, when it works for...
  24. Oh yes, I understand. All you can do is possibly repeat, "yes, even a crumb will make me sick." And let others know that we have differing levels of sensitivity. So some of us react to the crumbs, and some don't react to the crumbs, but are still damaging thier intestines. My family was hurt by the fact that I brought my own food to the gluten free Easter...
  25. Thank you for the info! My celiac family is not as sensitive as I am and are going to want to go there soon, my protests or no. And when I say not as sensitive, I mean my sister will have some of her husband's oreo milkshake, and my mother eats at Mcdonalds, has dairy queen malteds, and wonders why she doesn't feel good. AHHHH!!!! So thank you for helping...
