Hi, I have been gluten free for almost 3 years now and have been feeling much better until the last 2 weeks. We are remodeling a new house(new for us) and my activity level has increased. I have noticed increasing pain in my legs and joints, which came to a head yesterday with severe pain in my right knee to the point of not being to walk very well. I...

ARCHIVED Fluoride Treatments
judy05 replied to lapetit8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got severely glutened on the topical anesthetic which the dentist used prior to the needle. Now I forego the topical and just take the needle. I WAS SO BAD THAT MY HUSBAND HAD TO WRITE THE CHECK FOR ME and practically carried me out of the office. I never went back to him, he said he had other Celiacs but never checked the label. I've never heard of anyone... -
ARCHIVED What Makes You Happiest About Being Gluten-free?
judy05 replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everyone, I love that I can drive my pickup truck without wearing sunglasses anymore I love that I can't remember when I last had a cold (I used to get 3-4 a year) I love that Spring is here and I'm not wheezing or sneezing, I can be outside again. I love being rid of that awful brain fog and migraines. I love being free from some really... -

ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
judy05 replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Radman, I've been reading these posts for the last couple of hours and I am curious about why you never had an Endoscopy or even a Celiac panel. I am an RN who was sick for many years with allergies, joint pains etc. In my 50's I developed a goiter, had it biopsy, and a left thyroidectomy. The gland was destroying itself. Soon after that I started developing... -
McDonalds is a huge corporation that cares about nothing except making a profit. They were wrong if they knowingly lied about the fries containing wheat. All companies should be made aware that wheat is like rat poison to us and knowing that children love their products makes it twice as wrong. We need attention brought to our cause, there are too many of...

ARCHIVED Thank You And Migraines
judy05 replied to Faithperson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Faithperson, Welcome to the board. I also suffered from migraines for many years, haven't had one in over a year. Sometimes I think one is going to start and then it doesn't. I've been gluten-free for 2 years and CF for a year and a half. My Dr. thought they stopped because I went through menopause, but I think it was the gluten. My Dr told me that... -
ARCHIVED Going To Dentist, What Should I Look For.
judy05 replied to rlemmon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm another one who has had problems in the dentist chair. One dentist used a topical anesthetic to rub on my gums before he gave me the injection. The solution was mint -flavored. He said his other Celiac patient never reacted to it. A good source of information is the Clan Thompson books. They have a list of safe dental products. Just wanted to tell you... -
ARCHIVED First Trip To The Dentist
judy05 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't let them use the mint flavored liquid that they rub on your gums before the injection. I found out the hard way, I was so sick by the time I got out of the chair that I couldn't make out a check or walk out on my own. I have a new dentist who checks all of the ingredients and even calls the manufacturers. I wish I could remember the gluten free name... -
Hi, Just wanted to welcome you to the board. The first thing you need to do is take a deep breath and calm down. I have IBS as well as gluten intolerance and the thing you must do is eat soluble food for a while, this would be soft mushy foods like bananas, mashed potatoes, applesauce, etc. Stay away from insoluble foods especially citrus and things with...

ARCHIVED Bad Tasting Cough
judy05 replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had that for several months after going gluten free, it's gone now. I think it could be the toxins leaving your body, don't be scared of these weird symptoms, most of them disappear. -
ARCHIVED Getting Nervous
judy05 replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I had the endo first. Don't be afraid of choking, they spray your throat with medication. It wipes out your gag reflex, as a matter of fact you can't de discharged until you get it back. They start an IV, usually with a medication called Versed and you are very relaxed, not really asleep but you usually don't remember anything after that. My nurses... -
ARCHIVED Lipsticks
judy05 replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another product line that you have to worry about is dental products. My dentist was familiar with Celiac but I was the first patient to react to the topical anesthesia that they rub on your gums before doing the Novacaine. I got severe brain fog before he finished my filling my tooth. I was so disoriented that I couldn't write the check for payment. My husband... -
ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
judy05 replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
I just sent an email to Dr Sonjay Gupta on CNN. He has a medical call in/write in and I asked him to help us get the information out. -
ARCHIVED Kraft "policy" To Not Tell gluten-free Or Not
judy05 replied to discountshopper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is not correct. On Jan 2006 labels have to say if they contain the top 8 allergens of which one is wheat. We still have to read the label for barley, rye and oats. Some of them are already doing this, the allergens are usually in bold type and some actually say gluten-free. Although this law is not perfect it is a step in the right direction. I don... -
ARCHIVED Celiac?not Sure
judy05 replied to christa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just want to put my two cents in here. Eating brussels sprouts in the morning or any other time isn't good for someone with digestive issues. You should be eating very simple, bland food. Try a banana, applesauce, mashed potatoes, chicken or pork or fish. Eat very simple veggies like green beans. Brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower are very harsh... -
Unfortunately the symptoms are similar and hard to differentiate. Everyone was sure my problem was GB. I had an upper GI which showed reflux, a sonogram which showed an enlarged gall bladder, and a HIDA scan which showed a normally functioning gall bladder. After that i was sent to a Gastro doc, who did a Celiac panel which showed an abnormal IGA. I was put...

ARCHIVED My Daughter -21yrs Old
judy05 replied to Lisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I personally would first check her B/p, my son and I both had bad headaches prior to being diagnosed with hypertension. If the headches are over both eyes, it is likely a sinus headache, sometimes these can occur as a result of milk intolerance. Of course she should have the gene test and celiac panel to check for antibodies. I highly recommend Citracel fiber... -
ARCHIVED All Or Nothing?
judy05 replied to JenM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just want to add that gluten intolerance must be an autoimmune disease because my thyroid was destroying itself and I also developed diabetes, IMHO I think they are all related and hereditary! -
ARCHIVED All Or Nothing?
judy05 replied to JenM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I have to agree with that, even though I don't have damaged villi and no Celiac gene, I'm sure that my eyesight was being affected by the gluten. It has taken 2 years to even feel normal. Today was my first trip to the supermarket alone, driving myself and not wearing sunglasses. I know this sounds trivial but it was a big accomplishment for me. I used... -
I have to agree with Jen. If I don't go everyday I feel terrible. I drink a lot of water, eat lots of fruit and fiber, and take 2-4 Citracel /day. It's good for both diarrhea and constipation and it forms a gel action in your intestine and I usually have a "masterpeice" every day. You will feel so much better if you go every day. Also Citracel is gluten...

ARCHIVED Chinese Buffets (thai And Indian Food Too)
judy05 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I eat at a local Chinese restaurant. I always order plain rice, shrimp, chicken and broccoli and ask them to hold the sauces. It is very good steamed. You could bring gluten-free soy sauce with you or any other kind you want. They are very understanding and I don't even tell them anymore, they already know. I tried the pork fried rice, which I love but I... -
ARCHIVED Really Bad Experiences Yesterday
judy05 replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This has nothing to do with celiac disease but I was behind a "jerk" in the supermarket. He was only buying one item -ice cream. The clerk apparently rang the wrong price on the cash register and he went ballistic! He picked up a shopping cart and broke all of the windows. All the customers ran for cover and someone called 911. It took about 10 minutes for... -
I stated to go gluten-free around the same time that you were diagnosed. I don't cheat but I do sometimes overeat on some of the gluten-free foods. Gluten causes terrible migraines which scare me so bad it keeps me from cheating. When I first went gluten-free I got worse before I got better. I spent a whole summer curled up in a fetal position because of...
