ARCHIVED Gluten-Free For A Couple Months - Still Diarrhea!
jackay replied to L13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been taking probiotics for a long time. Doubled my dose and when that didn't work, doubled the double dose. I still am not seeing much of an improvement. Some days it is a little better and I think the worse is over but then it starts in again. I've eliminated nuts, soy, dairy and eggs and still have diarrhea. I'm guessing it is from gluten... -
ARCHIVED How To Clean Gluten Contamination.
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never thought of that myself. My daughter-in-law lives by flylady. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion. -
ARCHIVED Tryptophan, Sleep, Neuropathy & Severe Depression
jackay replied to lkonya's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'd love to give trytophan a try but I read the side effects and they sound pretty bad. I react to so many supplements that even my doctor is leery of me trying new ones. A lot of side effects I get aren't even listed as possible side effects for some of them. My doctor is hoping once I get my gut straightened out that these sensitivites will go away. -
ARCHIVED How Much Sleep Do We Really Need?!
jackay replied to Gfresh404's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm really frustrated. I tried the ideas of staying up late, setting the alarm to get up earlier, getting up and doing something if I can't sleep and none of them work. Some nights the anxiety is really bad and some nights I feel pretty relaxed. I've also tried counting backwards, listening to relaxation tapes and countless other things. Last night I... -
ARCHIVED Is Less Than 60 Parts Per Million Safe?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One more question about my 60 parts per million pain reliever. It is a powder that dissolves in the mouth. Does it all end up in my stomach if I don't take a drink right away? I am wondering if that could be the reason that this is the only pain reliever I found that works for me. -
ARCHIVED How To Clean Gluten Contamination.
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please, please, please help me with cleaning tips! My home has over fifty years of gluten. The past fifteen years I have not done a good job cleaning because of fatigue. I feel every single thing in every room is possibly contaminated, from the handle on the toilet to the clothes dryer to the light switches. How do I get the gluten out of and off of... -
I am wired all the time so even when I can't sleep at night, I can't nap during the day. I have been awake now for about 30 hours and feel miserable. I pray for at least a few hours of sleep tonight. I stay away from caffeine so that isn't the problem. Headaches and back pain don't help but there have been some nights when I do get some sleep in spite...

ARCHIVED How To Get Family To Be Supportive
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As an afterthought, I have tried both 3 mg. and 6 mg. melatonin and still have sleep issues. My doctor said to stick to 3 mg. since 6 mg. wasn't doing any more. I don't know why I even take the 3 mg. since it isn't helping. I also take magnesium and my doctor feels the amount shouldn't be increased. Taking a higher dose of magnesium in the past didn't... -
ARCHIVED How To Get Family To Be Supportive
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'll see what my doctor has to say about the B complex. I am taking B5B6 in the a.m. as a drastically reduced dose from what he suggested. The first day I took one whole supplement and literally went through the roof with anxiety. I didn't sleep at all that night. I am now taking 1/4 of a tablet. Didn't sleep a wink last night again so am even more nonfunctioning... -
ARCHIVED Question For Any Really Underweight Celiac's?
jackay replied to ronapa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also am concerned about the weight issue. I lost 30 pounds in about two months. I got extremely depressed. Antidepressants did nothing for me. I was put on an antipsychotic drug. I gained weight back very fast. The medication did nothing for my depression so I quit taking it. The weight stayed on until about a year and a half ago. I started... -
ARCHIVED Can A Celiac Live In A Gluten House?
jackay replied to karenhockley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My husband was going to bake cookies with wheat flour today. I asked him to go to his parent's home to bake. He said he just wouldn't bake but was not pleasant about it. He won't substitute any other flour. I keep commenting about cross contamination. I know everyone should keep washing their hands. Am I just not learning how to be careful? I am... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before You Start To Feel Better
jackay replied to New-To-This's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you butcher and freeze your chicken before you went gluten free? How about fruits and vegetables? My freezer is stocked with organically fed chickens that were cleaned and cut up in a glutened kitchen. Also, I froze lots of fruits and veggies in a kitchen that also contained gluten. I really can't afford to replace all that food. I really, really... -
ARCHIVED Are My Supplements Safe?
jackay posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am taking quite a few Metagenics supplements and am confused about their label. It says they are are formulated to exclude: wheat, gluten, corn protein, soy, nuts, tree nuts, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Yet there is a statement in the bottles that say "This product is produced in a facility that produces products containing soy, dairy... -
I had surgery for hyperparathyroidism back in April. It was not a fun experience. I research this and from what I read, it sounded like surgery was the only option. I was told the endo I saw was one of the best. He insisted I needed the surgery. I was so miserable that I was willing to try anything for relief. I did a lot of online research and all the...

ARCHIVED Significant Other Wants To Say Something
jackay replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope psawyer can answer this. Is it as necessary with other food intolerances to be as vigilant as it is with gluten? I think any powder would be bad but other things wouldn't spread so much. -
ARCHIVED How To Clean Gluten Contamination.
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the responses. I do feel my dh would be more supportive if I felt better. I have no energy to do this cleaning. For 15 years I have tried getting my health back so I'm sure he feels this is just another one of my attempts that will fizzle out. The one local store does have gluten free items in their health food section. They are carrying... -
ARCHIVED Can Undereating Cause Insomnia?
jackay replied to Gfresh404's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I, too, have major insomnia issues. I read somewhere to not eat three hours before going to be as digestion could cause insomnia. That doesn't help. I know I don't process fats. I think I'll try avacado tonight as one of you suggested and see if I can process that kind of fat. I went the sleep study route about four years ago. Found out I don... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Stop Losing Weight!
jackay replied to BungalowBill's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am in the same boat so don't have any tips for you. I am eager to see what advise you get from others. About 18 months ago I was tested for food sensitivities and went on an elimination/rotation diet. I started losing weight. After six months of this, my system crashed. It took way too long to find out I had hyperparathyroidism, which could have... -
I am stressed to the max with concerns of gluten contamination. Not one thing in my house is free of possible contamination, from my gluten free foods to my sewing machine. I can't afford to start from scratch with everything. I feel the only way to do that would be to have a brand new home or live in a bubble. Actually, I don't think either of those...

Do you eat corn? I had corn last night and feeling bad today. It could be that the corn was contaminated but from the strong reaction I got, I figure it was the corn itself.

ARCHIVED What Do All These Tests Cost?
jackay posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can anyone tell me a ball park figure what all the different tests for gluten intolerance and celiac cost? I do have insurance but still pay quite a bit out of pocket. Also, I have been avoiding gluten but feel I am getting cross contaminated. With that feeling, would it be wise to get tested or should I do a gluten challenge for a while first? -
My dh is definitely not on board nor do I think that will ever happen. I can honestly say that he would be able to give me up before he would give up gluten. He just told me he thinks I am blowing everything out of proportion. My daughter (no longer lives at home) feels the same way. I hope using the dishwasher gets rid of gluten because I can't afford...

ARCHIVED Soy Intolerance And Supplements
jackay replied to breavenewworld's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am so stumped at figuring out if I react to a food. Some days my diarrhea isn't as bad and I eat the same foods as days that it is real bad. I never get much sleep so I also can't tell if foods are affecting that. My anxiety is not as bad as it was. I do not know if that is because I am healing or if the supplement I have started is helping. Headaches... -
I need some help with contamination concerns as my husband eats lots of gluten foods. I am washing my hands a lot and they are so dry. I'm guessing because of the sad state of my hands that gluten is getting stuck in the cracked and dry skin. If I'd start feeling better I'd be more up to cleaning up crumbs, etc. but I still have no energy. I keep hearing...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone With Celiac Disease Hear Their Pulse?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had my thyroid checked a few months ago and that was normal. Also, most recent bloodwork for parathyroid was almost all normal. One calcium test was a little low but is continuing to get closer to the normal range. Hopefully my stomach will repair itself by eliminating gluten and the pulsing will go away. I know I'm not absorbing all my nutrients...
