ARCHIVED Anybody Else Missing "Real" Bread?
jackay replied to SJR's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't miss bread at all. I had to give up rice and really, really miss that. I'm hoping I can reintroduce rice soon and that I can tolerate it. -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The stomach issues really weren't too bad until the past few days. I've had stomach discomfort, mostly in the evening. I've had more BMs but nothing too bad until yesterday it turned into bad D. I think it is just the accumulation of magnesium over the past 5-7 days. I've quit the calcium with magnesium and will see what happens. Unfortunately, I need... -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A brainwave hit me and I may have figured out what is causing my additional stomach problems. I wasn't able to buy my normal calcium citrate supplement because it has been unavailable for a couple weeks. I bought the same brand but it has magnesium oxide/citrate in it. I'm thinking that may be the culprit. Hopefully, my regular calcium supplement will... -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the helpful advise from so many of you. The reason behind the rotation diet is to give the food time to clear from you system to lesson the chance that you become intolerant to it. Since I am so limited with what I can eat, I'm going to talk to my doctor about this. As far as the foods I tested intolerant to, it is suggested that I eliminate... -

ARCHIVED Can Shampoo Really Make You Sick?
jackay replied to savvysue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The hair care products could be causing your problems. Switch to a shampoo without and see if you stomach aches go away. If that doesn't take care of it, it could be something you eat or some other products you use such as make up. -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
RiceGuy, I seem to be able to tolerate fats. I am rotating olive oil, coconut oil, butter and avocados to get some fat in my diet each day. I tested severely intolerant to beef so getting fat with that is out of the question for the present time. ... -
ARCHIVED Emeril Lagasse's gluten-free Pizza Crust
jackay replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can't wait until I can once again have rice, yeaast and sugar as this sounds so good. Pizza is the one food I really, really miss. -
ARCHIVED Just Wondering Who's From Minnesota
jackay replied to linds's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Tammy, My husband eats gluten all day long. I'm not too tempted as I know what it does to me. However, it is hard not getting cross contaminated. There are always some crumbs around. I don't expect him to be as careful as I have to be so I am very, very careful about always washing my dishes and hands. It seems to be working O.K. I leave the room... -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
RiceGuy, Your comment "On the other hand, if one was to limit his/her choices to a very small number of foods, then each item becomes all-the-more essential. Too little variety, and you won't have a healthy diet no matter what the ratio of those few things." really hits home to me. I have eliminated so many foods from my diet because of testing intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Feel Like I'M Nuts But Plan To Ask Doc About Celiac
jackay replied to lindsayanne0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Definitely consult your doctor about this. It may or may not be Celiac. It could be caused by other food intolerances. Back when my son was an infant, he was extremely unhappy, hyperactive, didn't sleep, etc. Once we figured out what foods bothered him and took them out of his diet, he became a new person. He finally started going to sleep without screaming... -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It does seem that what I am eating to replace grains is giving me tummy aches, which I wasn't having before. I may have to try just eating one food for a couple days and then try adding a food at a time to see what I can tolerate. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Recover From Chronic Insomnia After Going gluten-free?
jackay replied to carrieanna76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
RiceGuy, Thanks so much for clarifying this. It makes so much sense. I'll see if my doctor sells this and if not, I'll order some online. It will be interesting to see where I come out with my nutritional blood work because B12 (from what I've read) doesn't always show up as being deficient when tested because it draws it from the bones. Are there... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Experience Violent Dreams?
jackay replied to msmini14's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I often wake up after dreaming that I have been glutened. The last time I dreamt that I had flour sprinkled on my bed. Not exactly a nightmare but gluten contamination is always on my mind. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Recover From Chronic Insomnia After Going gluten-free?
jackay replied to carrieanna76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Char, You didn't mention sublinqual B12 supplements but most people using this forum do. If B12 is absorbed by the colon, how does taking it sublinqually help? -

ARCHIVED Danimals Dinkable Yogurt Gluten Testing
jackay replied to lisabp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lisa, If by chance you are still reading this forum, know that many support what you are doing. If you hava a sick 19 month old and all he eats is one thing, by all means feed him that one thing. As he gets healthier (and older), he will start trying more foods. I don't know of any picky eater that grows up just eating just one food. Is there any way... -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet
jackay replied to Sharon Marie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
RiceGuy, I've been eating millet and quinoa. Are they both seeds? I was eating a lot of rice to replace wheat and oats and found out I am mildly sensitive to rice, too. I've started eating millet and quinoa. I prefer the millet. -
It really is something how our bodies react to different supplements and medications. For years doctors tried to tell me I was just suffering from depression, which was the cause of my anxiety. I tried so many antidepressants and medications for anxiety. I didn't get better from any of the antidepressants, in fact, I got much worse from some of them...

ARCHIVED How Do You Cope With The Health Side?
jackay replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The chances are you will not get cancer within the next five years. By staying gluten free, you may be preventing cancer in the years to come after that. Think if it this way, there is a chance of getting cancer now, but even less of a chance of getting it after five years. Hopefully each day closer to the five years, you are that much further away from... -
ARCHIVED Why Are The Products So Costly?
jackay replied to minniejack's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think the cost of gluten free will ever go down unless a much larger percent of our population goes gluten free. I'm sure there are so many more out there that should be gluten free but their doctors have not realized it. I have learned to rely on whole foods and forget about all the non-gluten flours and mixes. I did start eating quinoa as a grain... -
ARCHIVED It's Really Sinking In
jackay replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I grieved at first but now that I feel so much better, I am over it. My lifestyle has completely changed. I found a group of women who go out for just coffee. I can drink that every once in a while. I gave up so many foods besides gluten because of other sensitivities. At first it seemed impossible but it is working. I way the pros and cons of giving... -
The amino acid L-Theanine has given me the most relief. I take 200 mg. at bedtime or whenever I get extremely anxious. Since going gluten free and avoiding cross contamination, my anxiety has gone way down. I did not get relief with prescription anxiety and depression medications. They just seemed to compound my problems. Also tired herbal remedies...
