ARCHIVED Eating Right Is So Expensive!
jackay replied to virginiagl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband has quite a large garden. He already has it charted out for this coming summer. I am definitely going to be more involved and plan on freezing and canning many veggies. What I canned this past summer has a good chance of cc so can't use most of it. Now I know how to be careful:) This year the garden will include winter squash, carrots, chinese... -
My doctor did a full nutritional panel. He was as surprised as I was that only B12 was low. He said it almost looked as if they tested someone else's blood. I can't afford to have it redone to see if there was a mistake.

I was tested and the only thing I was low on was Vitamin B12. I take 3000 IU Vitamin D3 daily so most likely that would also be low if I didn't supplement. Just started on Vitamin B12 and am hoping it will help with my insomnia.

ARCHIVED Environmental Toxins And Celiac
jackay replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish I could go completely chemical free because I feel chemicals are bad for everyone. I do use a nonstick pan some of the time. I stick to medium heat or lower as high heat is suppose to produce more toxins. I use mostly natural cleaners except for toilet bowl cleaner. I do not use any plastics for my food. I cover some glass dishes with plastic... -
ARCHIVED Coworkers Are Not So Understanding
jackay replied to virginiagl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This makes me think of the time years ago that I was asked to work on my day off. I was going to a potluck right after work, so fixed a casserole in a crockpot in the morning to take to work so I could stir it a few times. Apparently the smell bothered others. I think it just possibly made them hungry!!! Anyway, my supervisor said I could never do that... -
ARCHIVED Dentist (Gluten?)
jackay replied to Kathleen Smith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am due for my six month cleaning and check up soon. I also was wondering if I'd get glutened from my dentist. Could the "gritty stuff" that is used to polish the teeth contain gluten, soy or corn? I tested severely intolerant to fluoride a while back and know there is a polish that is fluoride free. Guess I'll have to ask about about the polish when... -
I don't think others can truly understand how gluten is effecting someone unless they have gluten intolerances. My DH told me he took a clean knife to cut a squash so what was left in the refrigerator would be safe for me to eat. He was trying but I doubt he washed his hands first or washed the "clean knife" before using it. If he did, he probably used...

Jason, I'll be praying for you. I can relate to what you are saying because I felt like I had no life for four years. I spent hours online trying to find help. I don't have all your health problems but I thinnk I understand your pain. I wish I was good with words and I'm not. I do want you to know I care and do hope you can find relief soon. Hang...

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For B12 Supplements To Work?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For B12 Supplements To Work?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sure my doctor will suggest shots if the drops don't work for me. He said to start taking them three times a day but didn't tell me how much to take at a time. I had many, many questions for him so didn't think to ask that one. I'll see what it says on the bottles. Most likely I'll have to call him once I get the drops. I am absorbing all my other... -

ARCHIVED A Day In The Life...
jackay replied to JustLovely9216's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Before going gluten free and finding out what other food intolerances I had, I didn't want someone else's life, I just wanted to die. Luckily, I don't feel that way anymore (most days at least). I still have some healing to do so am positive it will get even better. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For B12 Supplements To Work?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am starting out with sublingual liquid drops that I will hold in my mouth for absorption. I checked extensively for sublinqual tablets and they all have ingredients in that I shouldn't have. Most of them are sweetened and flavored, which I shouldn't have at this time. Right now I am fighting candida so am suppose to avoid all sweeteners. Hopefully once... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For B12 Supplements To Work?
jackay posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I finally got the results of nutrional analysis and found the only thing I am low on is Vitamin B12. My doctor was surprised and said it almost looked like they checked someone elses blood. I had my calcium, phosphorus and Vitamin D checked a month earlier by another doctor and those results matched closely so it was most likely my blood tested. I ordered... -
ARCHIVED Buying Whole Grains
jackay replied to shepgs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the information. I found Arrowhead Mills millet and amaranth in a neighboring town. I haven't heard good things about that company and most likely will be returning the products unopened. They don't indicate that they are gluten free on their packages. I emailed them yesterday and haven't received a response yet. I find it interesting that... -
ARCHIVED Does Turkey Or Eggs Have Gluten Or Wheat In Them?

ARCHIVED Hip/low Back Pain
jackay replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get very tight muscles in my lower back and burning pain in my upper back muscles right below my shoulder blades. The pain definitely seems to be food related. I am intolerant to many foods besides gluten and am having a hard time determining what is all bothering me. I am 100% convinced that all my back problems are food related. I was getting chiropractic... -
ARCHIVED Does Turkey Or Eggs Have Gluten Or Wheat In Them?
jackay replied to gfcfsf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I understand that meat and eggs are gluten-free but I've been wondering if there can be cc from what they are fed? I have no idea what animals eat. I'm just guessing that they are fed wheat and corn. I found out I am intolerant to corn, also. -
ARCHIVED Glutened From Toddlers I'M Taking Care Of....
jackay replied to luciddream928's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suggest you make sure that you use gluten free soap and paper towels. If you employer won't provide them, bring your own. Good luck!+ -
ARCHIVED Hello All ...New Here !
jackay replied to Keith1970's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Keith, Hi back to you. Just wanted to welcome you to this forum and let you know you are not alone. I sympathize with you. At times I feel this really sucks and other times think I can handle it. Guess it all depends on how much sleep I get. If staying off gluten helps, forget the tests. As far as social situations go, they aren't too easy for... -
I also deal with a spouse who is not supportive. He just doesn't get it either. He says he cleans up crumbs but I see them everywhere. When we share meals together, I watch carefully and if he puts his spoon or fork in something, I just don't eat it. I dish up my meals first but watch to see if the leftovers get cc. I am very, very careful because I...

ARCHIVED Tryptophan, Sleep, Neuropathy & Severe Depression
jackay replied to lkonya's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm going to talk to my doctor about tryptophan as I am back to getting very little sleep and barely functioning. I'd love to try Omega 3s but have fish and flax intolerances. Bummer! I've heard they work for lots of people. -
ARCHIVED Stress Dreams About Eating Gluten Foods
jackay replied to GFLindsey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't dream about eating gluten foods but dream about cross contamination. I have insomnia most of the time so just lay awake and wonder if I'm not sleeping because of cc. Sure wish I could get over this.
