  1. This just confirms to me that I need to continue to eat only what I cook. I am not even letting my husband cook for the time being as I know he isn't as careful as I am about cc. He still consumes gluten. I always eat before I go somewhere or wait to eat when I get home. It has been hard going to another house when a meal is served because it smells...
  2. I am really trying hard to eliminate gluten from everything. I think of more things every day that I may be missing. I've spent lots of time researching online and calling companies for the gluten status of their products. Only those with gluten intolerance can understand how this is necessary.
  3. I tried the light box and it did nothing for me. I used it faithfully many winters. Right now I am taking 3600 IU Vitamin D3 daily, 6 mg. melatonin and an antidepressant. Still very depressed. Am hopeful being gluten free will help.
  4. I eat their Creamy Rice hot cereal daily. I expected it to be gluten free. Still new at this so don't know if it is bothering me or not. I think I reacted to their Mighty Tasty hot cereal and figured it was the corn that was bothering me. Now I'm wondering if it was cross contamination. I may try it later down the line when I feel I have healed and...
  5. I am definitely interested in learning more about this. About 18 months ago I was put on a digestive enzyme because of some nutritional deficiencies. I thought I was tolerating it O.K. I started seeing a naturopath who said I didn't need it so I discontinued it. About six months ago I had GI panel done that suggested low pancreatic exocrine output...
  6. Jillian, Thanks for all the helpful advise. I felt so much better the first week after I really cracked down on cross contamination. I expected it to continue and get even better. It was such a let down that I started feeling worse. I know I need to keep strong and take any little improvement as a good sign. Sleep is such a blessing and I have...
  7. I am finally sleeping now after figuring out my calcium supplement was causing my insomnia. That was not a gluten related issue. Now I am sleeping 8-9 hours a night. My anxiety is not so bad but the depression sure is. I am pretty sure I am gluten free now. Pretty sure, yet not 100% positive. The D isn't as bad as it was. I am still getting some...
  8. I also eliminated dairy, soy, and eggs about six months ago after saliva testing came back positive. About a month ago I eliminated all nuts and corn. A few days ago I added back peanuts that I shelled myself. The D didn't get any worse. Then I added back walnuts, almonds and filberts that I shelled myself. Again the D didn't get worse. Possibly the...
  9. My D has lessened but not gone away. I know I've eliminated all gluten from my diet but there is a chance of cross contamination from others. I'm being very careful with preparing foods, washing hands, etc. Since it takes a while for the stomach to heal, how do I know I'm doing enough? I do think the fact that the D has lessened is a good sign. Until...
  10. I recently had tests run for food and chemical intolerances. I am waiting to see my doctor next month for those results. I'm sure there will be even more dietary limits. Right now I am taking 2500 mg. calcium citrate daily. My endocronologist said to continue taking that amount until my blood calcium level comes up. I had surgery for hyperparathyroidism...
  11. Jennifer2 how long were you gluten free before you could tolerate eggs and bananas? I am having such a hard time isolating what is all bothering me. I did finally figure out that my calcium supplement was causing insomnia. Only discovered that by running out and switching to a different kinds. Went back to the original and insomnia started in again...

    ARCHIVED Insomnia

If something I am ingesting is causing my insomnia, it doesn't help me to take a sleep aid or supplement. I am pretty sure the gluten free calcium supplement I was taking was causing my insomnia. I switched to a different kind when I ran out. I started sleeping and thought it was because I was so careful about cross contamination. Switched back to my...
  13. I'm having a pity party for myself. Spent the past two days watching relatives eat everything under the sun. I made sure I ate before I went over there. Anyway, since I am still not feeling that great, it was really hard. I came home and ate lots of nuts. They may or may not bother me so I may be paying the price there, too. This time I shelled...
  14. I am thankful that I developed the dreaded D or my gluten intolerance would never have been discovered. It caused extreme anxiety and insomnia which are now so much better. I am thankful that my dh has finally come to realize that he needs to be extremely careful not to contaminate me. I didn't think that I'd ever have his support in this.
  15. I sure hope I get over my dairy, egg and soy intolerances so going gluten free won't be so limiting. The foods listed all so so good right now. I didn't have an appetite for over a year and it's just starting in. I'm getting sick of plain meat and vegetables but don't think I'll ever get sick of brown rice and fruit. Fruit keeps me going. I sure hope...
  16. I read that you can clarify butter by heating it up and removing the cloudy stuff that separates. Has anyone tried this?
  17. I had extreme insomnia for four years, including many nights with no sleep at all. I went off gluten and it didn't change. I then realized I was getting cross contaminated. Once I removed all traces of gluten, I started sleeping. It is so wonderful! Going gluten free has done for me what no sleep medication or supplement could do.
  18. My dh is finally coming around and supporting me about gluten contamination. He wants to get a new nonstick pan for frying potatoes. I am concerned that it will get contaminated accidentally even if we don't make anything with gluten in it. Am I being overly concerned? Since I am not living in a gluten free house, contamination is always on my mind.
  19. My gas got much worse when taking a digestive enzyme. It also caused a lot of churning and pain. A stool sample a while back showed an abnormally low marker for pancreatic exocrine output. It also showed an over abundance of bad bacteria. Doing some research, I found out that the bacteria can actually be destroying the digestive enzymes. I started...
  20. My DH is now being supportive. It sure makes living with this easier. My son and his wife called to see if it was O.K. for them to bring some french bread and scented candles with when they come for Christmas. I am allowing bread in the house but was pleased that they called and asked it if was O.K. As far as the scented candles go, we can give them a...
  21. Any food intolerance can mess with sleep. Stress from finals can just add to the sleep issues. Hopefully now that finals are behind you that your sleep will get better. If it doesn't and you are definitely staying gluten free, consider other food or even chemical intolerances.

    ARCHIVED Kissing

My DH is coming around. We talked about it last night. He listened as I quoted information from books and looked at my test results showing my food intolerances. Before this he wasn't interested in learning anything about it. He asked how he could help me. I asked him to be super careful because of gluten contamination and to be patient with me. I am...
  23. I, too, tested positive to casein. My doctor told me it would be fine for me to eat dairy and sour cream. I haven't been totally gluten free for long enough to take the chance. I am hoping after some healing that I can tolerate both butter and sour cream because I sure could use the calories.

    ARCHIVED Kissing

Right now I could use both respect and nurturing!
  25. I am avoiding communion. I am not comfortable with someone else touching a communion wafer even if it is gluten free. Our church shares the challis so wine is not an option either. I may bring this up with my priest at some point. However, I do know God understands why I am not taking part of this sacrament.
