ARCHIVED Tartrazine?
jackay replied to kaiess's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tested sensitive to Yellow #5 Tartrazine and Green #3 Fast Green food colorings through food and chemical sensitivity blood tests. I avoid all colorings and would only consume them if in need of a medication that can't be obtained without added coloring. -
ARCHIVED Whole Wheat / Whole Grains
jackay replied to Canadian Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Buckwheat (be sure it is 100% buckwheat), amaranth and teff are also gluten free. -

Be sure the nuts are packaged in a gluten free facility. -
ARCHIVED Buying Whole Grains
jackay replied to shepgs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I, too, need help in finding gluten free grains. I'm not interested in any of the flours at this time, just the grains to cook up and eat like cereal. Rice is out for the time being so I am looking for buckwheat, quinoa, teff and millet. I checked on Shiloh Farms brand at the Gluten Free Mall and see that they are processed on the same equipment as... -
I, too, wonder if gluten is sneaking it's way in to me. I am washing my hands a lot on shared towels. Whenever I am contacting food, eating or doing dishes, I wash my hands and use a paper towel for drying. If I need to do a few dishes, I use paper towels in the inside and a dishtowel on the outside. I use the dishwasher most of the time. You say you...

ARCHIVED Depressed, Hungry, & Pain Back
jackay replied to NE Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could be getting glutened but I wouldn't rule out the sugar withdrawal. -
It could be from other food intolerances. I hope it goes away soon. I still have backk pain but don't think it is cc because the D isn't present now. I do know that I have many, many food intolerances but haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing the pain. I definitely think it is food related though.
-
How did you figure out your 25 different intolerances? I had blood work to pinpoint mine but question the results. Some of the acceptable foods seem to be causing me problems. There were about 70 foods, herbs and spices that I tested positive to. If I eliminate the acceptable ones that I think bother me, I am left with very little to eat. On top of that...

ARCHIVED Celiac Causing Anxiety
jackay replied to niacav's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
niacav, I do not know if I am Celiac but definitely am gluten intolerant. Gluten caused me extreme anxiety. I haven't healed in a lot of other ways but my anxiety went away after going gluten free. Try a gluten free diet and you may be pleasantly surprised that your anxiety and GI symptoms get so much better. -
ARCHIVED A Note To My Non-Celiac Dad
jackay replied to breavenewworld's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I may copy your letter and give it to a few people to read if that is O.K. with you. What exactly can you eat? I am having such a tough time determining what sits well with me and what is bothering me. I had food intolerance blood tests done and am wondering how accurate they are because many of the foods that are suppose to be acceptable seem to bother... -
How were you diagnosed with Leaky Gut. I've heard the term but don't know much about it.

ARCHIVED Could Salicylic Acid Cause Problems?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have very wide feet and even with extra wide walking shoes, I get a corn on my left little toe. There isn't much I can do because any shoe seems to cause this. I don't ever wear pretty impractical shoes. Well, every once in a while I go to a wedding where I wear casual dress shoes but can't wait to get them off. I am a very casual dresser! -

ARCHIVED Could Salicylic Acid Cause Problems?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll have to look for those next time. I thought they were just for comfort and didn't do anything to get rid of the corn. -

ARCHIVED Could Salicylic Acid Cause Problems?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just checked the list of foods that have salycilates. My muscles in my upper back and shoulder are definitely more sore. I think I was having a salycilate overload with foods, aspirin and the acid I used on my foot. I'm cutting out the foods with the highest amount, discontinued the acid on my foot (luckily I got rid of the corn) and will see if I notice... -
ARCHIVED Could Salicylic Acid Cause Problems?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think I'm bothered by aspirin but could possibly be. I am taking a pain reliever now with aspirin in it because of my bad headache. It's the only pain reliever I know of that doesn't have wheat or corn in it. The company told me it is gluten free but I could possibly have been missed informed about that. Guess I'll discontinue that, too and see... -
I wash a load of bathroom and kitchen towels almost every day. I do not live in a gluten free house, so I'm wondering if I am getting cc from them. Is that a problem for others? I am always washing my hands before I touch food but my towels might be making me sick.
-
I realize this is a strange question but could salicylic acid be adding to my discomfort. I am using a these pads on my toe to remove a painful corn. It may be coincidental, but since I started using them I have had a headache that I can't get rid of and the muscle pain in my upper back is so much worse. I am also feeling anxious and haven't felt that...

ARCHIVED Should I Get More Strict?
jackay replied to Roda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After being tested for additional food intolerances and avoiding those foods, I keep a food journal. So far I haven't been able to pinpoint any foods so I could possibly be getting cc. My husband isn't careful so I am super careful. I wash my hands constantly. If I'm not sure of something, I don't eat it. I've been feeling worse lately. Sleep, which... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Gluten Intolerance/Celiac Disease Or Ibs...Or ?
jackay replied to CurlySpurs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sure sounds like you could have Celiac or gluten intolerance. You most likely have dairy intolerance, too. Try avoiding all dairy and gluten and be sure you don't get cross contaminated with gluten. It is in almost everything! Wash your hands every time before you touch food or your face. Wahs your dishes before you use them. If you start feeling... -
ARCHIVED Are Gluten-Free Grains Safe?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I absolutely love Lundberg rice and also ate a lot of their rice cakes. Then I found out I was intolerant to rice. Believe me, it was much harder giving up rice than wheat. Unlike gluten, rice is an intolerance that I might overcome. I'd love to try the safe oats but am holding off on them. I did try a cereal that included oatmeal a while back and... -
ARCHIVED How Should I Handle This In The Future?
jackay replied to BigDogz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Has anyone run into problems at a bar that washes their drink glasses by hand? Right now I can't drink due to too many other foods sensitivities including grapes and potatoes, which rule out wine and vodka plus no sweetnerers due to candida. However, I do hope some day I am able to tolerate all non-gluten food and drinks and would like to feel safe drinking... -
ARCHIVED Are Gluten-Free Grains Safe?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I often think things would be so much easier if I could just live in a bubble. I don't have social phobia but feel that it is impossible to avoid gluten. I do feel on guard every place I go such as the gym, sports events, church, doctors office, grocery store, friends and relatives homes. I guess no one said it was easy going gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Depression: Any 1 W/ It Or Had It And Its Gone
jackay replied to Christina98's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I suffered extreme anxiety and depression for most of the past four years. I did not find a medication that helped in any way. Believed me, I tried many, many meds for both anxiety and depression. Lots of them made me feel worse. Others did nothing at all. Once I gave up gluten, the anxiety and depression went away. I also have suffered from insomnia...
