I got headaches from calcitriol so switched to Vit D3. With the Vit D3 in my calcium supplements, I take at total of 3500 IU daily. Three months ago it was in the midrange level. My doctor likes it higher during the winter months. I just had it checked again yesterday. I had surgery for hyperparathyroidism nine months ago. I had 3 1/2 of my 4 parathyroid...

Glutenfreewarrior, We are on a very limited income and do feel the financial strain of eating gluten free and taking the necessary supplements for me to to regain my health. Just wanted to let you know that I live a very simple life and pretty much stick to the basics. I do not smoke or drink, go to weekly movies, buy sports tickets, eat junk food,...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free & Multiple Sclerosis?
jackay replied to GFDietitian's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have a friend who has MS. How do I suggest a gluten free diet without being preachy? I really would like her to try it but I don't want her to think I am pushing gluten free down her throat. -
ARCHIVED Can I Have Fructose Intolerance Too?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If people make fun of you for not eating with them, that is their problem, not yours. Hopefully you can arrange ahead of time for gluten free meals. I have not eaten out since I have gone gluten free. When I eat at someone elses house, I take with my own precooked foods. It is a hassle but necessary. I will be traveling to my brother's house for two... -
ARCHIVED Can I Have Fructose Intolerance Too?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
JasonD2, I agree that you need to listen to your body. I'm still trying to figure mine out. I do know that I have had very negative reaction to herbal supplements. I cannot tolerate licorie. Milk thistle makes me nauseous. Even with basic foods that are suppose to be easy to digest, you have to be careful. Zucchini is one that I'm extremely intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Can I Have Fructose Intolerance Too?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You sound like my sibling. I tested intolerant to fructose along with so many other things. I'm lucky though to not have gastritis. Right now it's mostly bouts with insomnia and headaches along with continual muscle pain. I'm trying to figure out how not lose more weight when I can eat so few things. Dairy, sugars and starches are what add up calories... -
ARCHIVED No Flour Peanut Butter Cookies
jackay replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Duh! My mistake. I'd need to add two egg whites instead of the egg yolk as it's the yolk I'm intolerant to, not the white. -

Has anyone tried substituting two egg yolks for the egg whites? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Recover From Chronic Insomnia After Going gluten-free?
jackay replied to carrieanna76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Carrie, Let us know if your sleep improves. Mine is better now that I am gluten free but I still have issues. I found out I have a lot more food intolerances than gluten so am hoping that by limiting my diet even more that my sleep will continue to get better. I never know when I go to bed what is in store for me. I have absolutely no sleep pattern... -
ARCHIVED Confused And Dont Know What To Do
jackay replied to Liz790's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Isn't the one positive endoscopy enough to tell you it is Celiac? If you do have Celiac, you will avoid a lot of future problems by going on the diet now. Give it a try for a month. A month out of your life really isn't that long. Possibly you have gluten intolerance that isn't Celiac but is still a very serious health problem. I had problems for... -
I see my endo next week and pray that my blood work comes back normal now that I am gluten free. I have so many other food intolerances that may be causing malabsorption. I found out by running out of my "more absorbable" calcium that it was contributing to my insomnia. So now I am back on 2500 mg. of calcium citrate. I am really disappointed that...

ARCHIVED What Kind Of Supplements Do You Take? Aloe? Antioxidents?
jackay replied to Donna F's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a whole closet full of supplements that I react to. It really gets frustrating because I definitely cannnot afford them. I cringe every time my doctor wants me to try something else. Right now I see that my multivitamin contains citrus bioflavoniods. I tested positive to lemon and grapefruit intolerance so wonder if my multis are a problem for... -
Fiddle-Faddle I noticed the target back in July and had all my symptoms before then. I just checked online for my labs from that day and see that my white blood count was low. I didn't notice it at that time because the doctor's comment was that all my labs were normal. Usually, there is an automatic flag when they are abnormal. Do you suggest that...

This past summer I tested positive to soy protein through a saliva test. Last month I tested negative to soy through a blood test. Yesterday I ate a can of tuna which contained soybean oil. I tested negative to tuna with a blood test. I noticed gas a couple hours later so wonder if the soy is still bothering me. Or is some gas normal? My doctor said...

I'm not having anxiety attacks but am just plain frustrated. Besides gluten, there are so many more foods I'm suppose to avoid due to food intolerance blood tests. There just isn't a lot left for me to eat and what I do eat, I am suppose to rotate every four days. Today I ate rice and preservative free bacon, which has some sugar in it. I am not suppose...

I your frustration jasonD2. I'm still not feeling as good as I should. I can't pinpoint what foods bother me. I lost 38 pounds and gained a few back after being careful with CC. Now I am losing again. I had bloodwork done that showed candida so I'm suppose to eliminate yeast and all sweeteners. Besides gluten, I tested intolerant to rice, beef,...

I was tested for other food intolerances and found lots more that I'm not suppose to eat. Unfortunately, the weight is coming off again. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Pancreatic Enzyme Deficiencies?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I tested as having abnormally low pancreatic enzymes. My doctor put me on them and they made my stomach churn like crazy. Also, got worse D. My doctor told me to go off them for the time being. The D is now controlled. I do not know if my enzyme level is up. What I'm eliminating is looking more normal so I hope that is a good sign. I had blood work... -
ARCHIVED Just Wondering Who's From Minnesota
jackay replied to linds's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, I'm from New Ulm, MN which is less than 30 miles SW of Mankato. I don't know of anyone in the area that is gluten intolerant and sure would like to me someone who is. I went gluten free about six months ago and didn't note any changes. I first became aware of cross contamination about six weeks ago. Since then I have been very careful and had been... -
ARCHIVED Can Other Food Intolerances Go Away On Their Own?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Maybe the binders are O.K. since they are such small amounts. I'm still at the healing stage and haven't been able to pinpoint too many things that I think are culprits. According to the last tests, I can bring back some dairy and soy. I really am not interested in soy but am looking forward to trying cheese. I already tried kefir but that was colored... -
ARCHIVED Can Other Food Intolerances Go Away On Their Own?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I did find in the booklet for the food intolerant tests that they are considered 83.4% accurate. I had been off eggs close to six months before I was tested. I only tested intolerant to egg yolks so may give egg whites a try. I had a moderate intolerance to corn and there is corn starch in a prescription I take. I had a mild reaction to rice and that... -
ARCHIVED Can Other Food Intolerances Go Away On Their Own?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Mushroom, Have you had experience with food intolerance testing? I question some my results. One example is that I tested extremely sensitive to lemon, mildy sensitive to grapefruit and not sensitive to lime or orange. Another example is extreme sensitivity to zucchini, moderate sensitivity to cucumber and pumpkin, mild sensitivity to yellow squash... -
ARCHIVED Can Other Food Intolerances Go Away On Their Own?
jackay posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just got back my blood test results for additional food intolerances. I tested intolerant to many, many foods. I am suppose to avoid them and be on a four day rotation diet. I can see avoiding all foods that I tested extremely and moderately intolerant to. However, I am wondering if it is necessary to avoid everything that I am mildly intolerant to... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Stop Losing Weight!
jackay replied to BungalowBill's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have actually put on some weight since Christmas. I would be very happy to stay at my current weight right now. I think I'm finally getting some nutrients out of what I eat, too. The terrible D is gone. Now, to work on the sleep..... -
GFinDC, I hope your sleep continues to improve while I continue to be strange. Last night was my no sleeper so I'm hoping for some zzz's tonight. I figured I sleep every other night because my body is starved for the sleep after missing a night. I gave up soy, eggs and dairy about six months ago. I've tried dairy a few times recently and that hasn...
