Enterolab is promising but as far as I know he still hasn't been peer reviewed has he? It all takes so much time and red tape for studies to be done too. And then there is the American know it all syndrome where we don't always take studies and testing from other countries into account because we think we have to invent everything for it to be valid.

I had unexplained weight gain no matter how hard I exercised before diagnosis. Still struggling to lose it 2 1/2 years later.

Those little journals are great and they fit in your purse. Do they still have books with the points of different foods in alphabetical order? I'm pretty big on technology but for food tracking I don't like it. I've tried WW online and tracking my food with the Bodybugg website and using their device. It's so slow going on the phone and then I forge to log...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food Not Filling?
sandsurfgirl replied to Zuhal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You're in the healing and withdrawal process. It's totally normal. When you first go gluten free your body is healing all that villi damage. I think of it like a huge construction crew rolls out to rebuild and they need raw materials. Your body demands food to fuel it for the job it's about to do. It feels like you're starving and you can't eat enough food... -
Being gluten free is going to help you a lot. So many celiacs suffer from neuro and psych issues. There have been some good studies on it. I had terrible anxiety due to gluten. I have a close family member who is bipolar. It's hard to manage but not impossible. You have done something wonderful by going gluten free. She won't even get tested and I'm so...

It does get easier I promise!!! 5 days is a very short time. You will likely go through withdrawals. If you use the search function on these forums and look for withdrawals there are lots of threads to read. I was 6 months before I had one symptom free day. Now I'm 2 1/2 years out and doing great. Those first few weeks my body went wacko. There was a...

Yes, yes, yes! Unless you have a gluten free soap and scrub the dickens out of your hands after shampooing, the never touch your hair... you get the picture. I glutened myself so bad one time with a leave in hair treatment that had wheat in it. I was absent mindedly running my fingers through my hair while working on the computer. Then I snacked on some chips...

It's a great feeling to know you are healing and getting well. You may find that you have some emotional ups and down at times and we are here for you through all of it. People are worse off than us, but heck lots of people are far better off too. It's all relative. We have to honor our own process and honor our grief when the grieving comes, honor...

It makes me so sad and so mad when I hear stories like this on the board. Why would somebody treat a celiac like this? I'll never understand it. L Glutamine powder helps some. Drink lots of water. Eat simply and clean. And wait it out. Feel better soon!

ARCHIVED Extremely Overwhelmed And In Denial
sandsurfgirl replied to ebpetite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish I could give you a big hug and we could have a good cry together. I'm 2 1/2 years out and sometimes I still get overwhelmed. I have a celiac child as well. Just today I was overwhelmed. We are going on a Scouts camping trip where all food is provided, but of course we can't eat it so I have to pack all this food. Every birthday party I have to... -
ARCHIVED Shouldn't Have Had The Mike's Hard Lemonade
sandsurfgirl replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nobody was made unwelcome. It's a discussion. You say something. I say something. You may disagree. I may disagree. That's fine. If the wine makes you sick don't drink it. Just as anecdotal accounts can be helpful, you also don't want more restriction on our diets than is necessary. People don't need to be afraid of wine because wheat paste is not a common... -

I've read long threads about this and it seems to be a celiac myth like vinegar. -

ARCHIVED Shouldn't Have Had The Mike's Hard Lemonade
sandsurfgirl replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This stuff that contains gluten grains but supposedly is gluten free is being pushed on us and I don't like it. There are beauty products with hydrolyzed wheat protein that are being labeled gluten free, but I got the leave in conditioner on my hands and then ate and was glutened bad by it. I avoid wheat, barley and rye like the plague. I don't care what... -
ARCHIVED Sign Petition For Chipotle To Stop Using Soybean Oil
sandsurfgirl replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was just having a discussion about GMO soy and corn with a friend of mine who has a PhD in agriculture. She said that about 70-80% of soy used in America is GMO, so in fast food the likelihood is very high that it's GMO because it's cheaper. I would guess that most fast food uses soybean oil because it's so cheap. -

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Food Taken Away At Sea World
sandsurfgirl replied to JohnnyOh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I asked the manager why they have that policy he told me it was because they will lose money from people not buying food there. Which is just stupid. Most people don't want to lug food with them when they don't have to. I don't think it's the feeding animals issue because there are snack stands all over the place, carts, popcorn, etc. They don't... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Food Taken Away At Sea World
sandsurfgirl replied to JohnnyOh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sea World in CA does have gluten free food but it's dicey. Disneyland does gluten free really well. Once they gave us the wrong hot dog bun but we go all the time and have only had one mistake ever. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Food Taken Away At Sea World
sandsurfgirl replied to JohnnyOh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sea World does let you bring in food for allergies. The security person was wrong and doesn't know their policy. You should have insisted on speaking to management. It's a stupid policy they have. Disney doesn't question you one bit. We have annual passes and always bring in food. They never say anything to us about it. I would follow up by calling... -
I have what I call "fat celiac" the one where doctors refuse to think you have celiac because your metabolism slowed down and you gained weight for no reason instead of you getting very thin. I was always thin and was able to lose weight easily if I gained a few pounds, always athletic, dance teacher, worked out a lot, surfing, mountain biking, etc. Then...

I tried WW online about a year ago and I didn't like it. I don't like having to track my food on computer or with my phone. I like the old little journals they used to have and the slider thing for counting points that you could keep in your purse. Do they still have those if you go to meetings? I don't have my old materials from years ago anymore.

ARCHIVED May Contain Trace Amounts Of Wheat
sandsurfgirl replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never know what to think about this either. In our litigious society manufacturers have to protect themselves. It could be that something with wheat is processed in the same building or it could mean on the same lines. Who knows? I go to a place that has handmade candy. I checked the ingredients and they were all gluten free. I've eaten the same candy... -

ARCHIVED Went To My First Family Get Together Since Dx
sandsurfgirl replied to Bubba's Mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That was before I got diagnosed celiac and I'm 2 1/2 years out, but that is a good thing for people to know. I do use sanitizer sometimes and I wash my hands a lot.
