ARCHIVED Gluten / Fructose Intolerance?
kareng replied to oso0690's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are blood tests for Celiac disease. A dermatologist can also biopsy the skin next to the blistery rash to check for DH (the skin version of Celiac). If you want to be tested for Celiac you must continue to eat a regular gluten containing diet until all tests are finished. Lots of good info here: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Possibly Misdiagnosed?
kareng replied to ShellyJB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been gluten-free for 2 years, you should not show any celiac damage. It should have healed by now. However, Celiac isn't an allergy. I am not sure if the doctor just called it that as it might make more sense to people or what. You might want to get a copy of the blood work and see what was actually tested. It is possible to have Celiac... -
ARCHIVED San Francisco Area Doctor And Talking About Celiacs
kareng replied to LadyLuckNoDoubt's topic in Doctors
Welcome They may be throwing up their hands because they can't test you for Celiac if you have been gluten-free for 2 years? At this point, you have to decide if you really want to go back to eating gluten to be tested. If you are happy eating gluten-free and feel certain that gluten is an issue.....maybe you don't need to find a doctor to test you... -
ARCHIVED Dumb Biopsy Question
kareng replied to JHBurns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like you already know the answer... But, you need to be eating a normal gluten containing diet for diagnosis of Celiac Disease. You could see if you could get in sooner if they have a cancellation? Open Original Shared Link "Any changes in your diet can affect the accuracy of your biopsy results. ARCHIVED 13 Year Old Newly Diagnosed
kareng replied to Pollymo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wouldn't worry about art supplies with someone this age. She isn't going to eat the PlayDoh & can wash her hands well after. If she has a cooking class, she might need to be excused if they are baking with flour - flour just flies everywhere. -
ARCHIVED Please Consider Writing Target

Something to do with your waffle iron. The salmon seemed a bit wrong -but they cooked tator tots in it and that seemed like a great idea. The guy has a website and a book. https://gma.yahoo.com/photos/way-more-than-waffles-make-breakfast-lunch-dinner-in-your-waffle-iron-slideshow/ -

Just meals like sandwiches or burgers. Hub likes lots of gluten-free crackers but the boys want Wheat Thins. We only do gluten-free pasta anymore. -

ARCHIVED Does Bacon Have Gluten?
kareng replied to Myooshka's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Could you tell us what country that is? In the US, that isn't true. Many countries, the US & Canada included, have laws in place that wheat must be listed as an ingredient. Also, not sure why you would need a thickener on bacon? Why would you thicken the grease? I guess, if you were making gravy....but you would do that after the bacon is cooked... -
ARCHIVED Be Careful A Celiac Living With A Gluten Eater!
kareng replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One thing we do sometimes is - I serve everything! A bit of a pain, but it works. Also, the gluten-free items go on everyone's dinner plate before the bread or crackers. For example, they get the chicken and the green beans, then go over and get the bun to make a chicken sandwich. Or they serve themselves the cheese and fruit and then get their beloved... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
kareng replied to CooCooCachoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like a problem with the vaccine, to me. You should probably call the doctor and see what is going on. Edit: just realized you have seen the doctor. If this persists, I think I would either go back and insist on some help or try another doctor? -
Safe Wines For Super- Sensitive People?
kareng replied to Shell156's topic in Super Sensitive People
Just happened to be on and that was one thing I know about! My posts & quotes show my KC time zone. I think there is something you have to set in your profile area? It was still showing central time for some things when I was in Colorado... But Colorado time for others. But I didn't pay much attention. -
Safe Wines For Super- Sensitive People?

No. Some people don't like the flavor oak imparts to a wine. http://www.winespectator.com/drvinny/show/id/5273 -
ARCHIVED This Doesn't Seem Like Celiac To Me
kareng replied to Pagosapig's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Having the gene does not mean you have Celiac. I would push the doctor to look for other things. And.... From my understanding, it isn't a good idea to just stop taking antidepressants. You may need those - no matter what other health issues you have. You could show your doctor this: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Wildfire - Be Cautious Of gluten-free Menu
kareng replied to nzsc's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wildfire is known for being especially good for Celiacs. Sounds like they had a very slight glitch as processed on the same machinery does not mean the nuts contain gluten. Most food doesn't tell you how it is processed. They have a gluten-free Mac & cheese that is ...... Sooooooo yummy! The kind I found on the Internet say " same facility" which... -

ARCHIVED Nervous About Peru Medical Mission Trip And Food
kareng replied to mfalbo's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
How long will you be there? Is there anyone who has recently been in the same location that you could email and ask what they ate? How much can you bring with you? Are you in a big city that might have stores to get some food like fruit and cheese or yogurt or nuts? -
