  1. I know the big coffee plant here buys the beans all over the world and brings them here to roast & grind. So, even if they buy beans from Brazil, there would be no reason for Brazil to add wheat to whole beans. They make their own K-cups so, if this is somehow true, I could get those. I think Starbucks grinds their own in the US, but I don't...
  2. I didn't see that. Could you link to the article? If it was on a news program, they usually have links, too. Seems like a lot of coffee is ground in the US?
  3. Looks like we only have Americans responding here! I think the UK has a Coelic society. Maybe they have some recipes for the type of biscuit you are thinking of?
  4. Open Original Shared Link " New celiacs should receive follow-up testing twice in the first year after their diagnosis. The first appointment should occur 3-6 months after the diagnosis, and the second should occur after 1 year on a gluten-free diet. After that, a celiac should receive follow-up testing on a yearly basis. We recommend checking both tTG...
  5. Oh! That's the bunny noise you called purring! Happy bunnies like to chew their teeth. And they lay, all stretched out with the back legs sideways. We have a wild bun that does that every afternoon under our bush. We can see her very closely from a window. Her mother did it and her mother before her. Our dog doesn't chase rabbits and neither do the...
  6. Sounds like you are eating well! I don't think my bun purred. He did a lot of other silly things.
  7. M is going to college on Wed. We are going with some of his requests. Last night he didn't care what we grilled as long as I made him a baked potato with cheese. So last night we had steak, grilled corn, salad and steak. Tonight he wants regular chili mac - hamburger , black beans & pinto beans & corn mac to put it on. Might be a corn and rice...
  8. Kitchen Basics has a statement that they don't use soy and corn along with other things they don't use.....like gluten. They are easy to find- even Target and some Walmarts.
  9. Rice cookers don't work at high elevation? I did not know that ( said the girl that lives at 100 ft above sea level if I'm at the top of a hill). Bummer. Think of it as a learning experience? I have gotten much better at traveling with a little practice. You will see what works for you and what doesn't and make improvements next time.
  10. The gene just means you can get it. But, about 30% of people have a Celiac gene.... And they think about 1% have celiac. So, all it would do is rule it out. Open Original Shared Link "Genetics don’t diagnose celiac disease. They do, however, clarify whether an individual is “at-risk” for it. If this is the case, you should closely monitor your sympt...
  11. Wow! Alrighty then..... You said you were self-diagnosed with Celiac. I thought, since you were eating or drinking gluten, it would be a good time to get a definitive diagnosis. Sorry. I can see you do not want any suggestions. Peace
  12. What about getting the rash biopsied so you know if it really is DH or something else? sounds like you had test for lots of things, but not Celiac?
  13. I would be careful with the 23 and me testing. They have had some legal issues.
  14. I just did my test for fun. I wanted to know how many genes I had so I could kind of, un scientifically, see what my boys chances are. I was happily surprised that my insurance paid for it. I did not have my boys tested because I didn't want that in their medical records as it could limit their career choices and perhaps be a " pre-existing" condition...
  15. I forget what it cost. You can call Quest Diagnostics and they will tell you. My doctor ordered it and insurance paid without a peep. Edit- looked back at my old posts - it was about $260 from Quest about a year ago
  16. Let me clarify what I said- Wheat isn't usually an " artificial flavor". It is added often to thicken something like a soup. Barley malt is a sweetener and used to sweeten products. It can be surprising to see wheat in a soup because we might not make it that way or malt in something we don't even associate with having a sweetener.
  17. This is my new favorite drink! The first one I made didn't have much strawberry flavor. So I muddled the strawberries ( that means squish them a little) in the bottom of a glass and added the wine and let it sit in the fridge while I drank the first one . That was even better! Raspberries, watermelon, peaches, oranges, really lots of fruits would be good...
  18. Never heard of any artificial flavors that actually contain gluten. I guess if "wheat" was the flavor - they would legally have to say that. They could be made from wheat, theoretically, but its one of those processed until it has no resemblance to any natural substance (including gluten).
  19. I'm thinking this: http://wearychef.com/strawberry-white-wine-spritzer/
  20. I would suggest you not go out to dinner for a while (a few months). Make sure you are really gluten-free. A little gluten will keep you from healing. Also, are you eating dairy? Lactose can be very hard to digest until you are healed. Some adults, Celiac or otherwise, cannot digest it at all. With your previous issues, it could be something else...
  21. I really have nothing to add to the thread. But your little Rottie is adorable! A well bred Rottie is a lovely sweet big dog!
  22. "People" don't realize that they shouldn't drain the green beans in the same colander they drain their gluteny pasta - making it unsafe for us. It's just not something they think about. That is why it can be un- safe for others to cook for those of us with Celiac. I don't think there is anything any of us can say that will make you feel better or be of...
  23. I get a note from the General Manager of the stadium first - if bringing in food is an issue.
  24. I think it depends on the pain - what is causing it? Is it chronic? Where the location is? etc There are different kinds of "shots" & nerve blocks that a pain management doctor can administer. Some people find that, for certain kinds of pain, acupunture or acupressure helps. Botox is supposed to help with migraines. Marijuana, in pill form, is supposed...
  25. My mom used to make a meatball with rice it - called them porcupine balls. The rice sort of showed and looked like quills. So did you put in cranberries? Let us know how it turns out.
