ARCHIVED Preliminary Results Of Endoscopy
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bobbijo, did the GI give you any printed results from your endoscopy? I wouldn't have remembered what he told me after I just woke up either. But the results were printed and it explained it all. As I understand it, ulcers in the esophagus untreated can lead to Barrett's disease, Open Original Shared Link which can lead to cancer of the esophagus... -
ARCHIVED Preliminary Results Of Endoscopy
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kareng: I asked how many samples he was going to take before I went under. He said they take 6 from various places in the small intestine. That is interesting about your GIs visual observations juxtaposed with the biopsy results. It just struck me as an odd comment, you know!! Unless they make that comment a lot. I'll wait patiently for a week ... -
ARCHIVED Preliminary Results Of Endoscopy
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for your observations again, Roda. I had read that in my research and thought that it was an odd comment for the GI doc to make, if he was making a comment at all. Today was coffeeklatch day today at work (first Friday of every month) ... I walked in the the breakroom to find doughnuts, and danish and ugh, ugh, ugh ... Believe me I wasn't... -
ARCHIVED Preliminary Results Of Endoscopy
AlysounRI posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi All: Yesterday I had my endoscopy and my blood tests. The prelim. results of the endoscopy (all except the biopsy) were confusing. And I am wondering what to make of them. My biopsy and blood test results should be back in a week to 10 days. Here was what they found: redness/inflammation in the stomach, some polyps in the stomach (which were... -

Thanks Raven. I will. I'm not too much of the nervous type at all. I'll roll with it. It's just a relief that this day has come really and that soon I can get off the gluten, you know ... ~Allison -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Raven, I mentioned to him that I had done a three week elim. of gluten in Feb. But that I had been back on it (and how) since the beginning of the Month of March (this month). It was my impression that he wanted to do the endoscopy right away as a first thing. I don't know yet. But I am going to ask him more questions tomorrow before I go into <scary... -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Grrrrrr, this may be an oversight then. I'll be sure to mention it tomorrow. And, thanks, Roda, I will be sure to ask how many samples they are going to take from the small intestine. It's going to be a long, complicated day tomorrow, I think. I will let you know how it all turns out. And what he says about the missing celiac panel tests. ~Allison -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you Roda. So it seems to be that, this doctor also being a liver specialist, wants to rule out any of the Hep. strains first, do the IgA test and the endoscopy. Maybe they left the tTg test of the scrip or they want to do the endo. first. I'll be sure to ask tomorrow morning. I am hoping that test will be done. Ah, the subtle poetry of medical... -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
AlysounRI replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you Nora and Wolicki. I'll be sure and ask him about the blood tests tomorrow. So the IgA level test is one of the tests for celiac but the others that you listed are not there, right? I am so confused. I'll ask him about the tTG and the IgG test tomorrow before the local anesthesia sets in and I'll print out this little topic from the forum... -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
AlysounRI posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi All: I am going in for blood tests and my endoscopy tomorrow morning. I met with the GI doc. this morning. I have a whole scrip of bloodtests to take. Some I know, some I can't tell what they are. Here is the list: Albumin, Ceruloplasmin (seems to test for copper), HepB Ag, Hep B Ab (I know what these are, these are due to my elevated liver... -

ARCHIVED Getting A Good Breakfast On The Go!
AlysounRI replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I prepare two dozen hard boiled eggs for the month - and eat them on weekday mornings. To that I add a banana, nice and filling and nutritious and with the egg I get my protein. I was never a breakfast person but those two items do just fine for me. ~Allison -

ARCHIVED Dannon Light&fit Key Lime

ARCHIVED Dannon Light&fit Key Lime
AlysounRI replied to pufffee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Pufffee: Yeah, sorry about the Dannon yoghurt. Anytime it says "modified food starch" and it doesn't specify that it's corn, you have wheat. If you see that on labels, just avoid it. Perhaps you can check out the other Dannon kinds like the fruit on the bottom. I don't have any Dannon at the moment so I can tell you what those labels say. ~Allison -
Well, then make a lot of that - it will make them happy and get some dedicated loaf pans for yourself and do it without the machine. If you are a natural born baker, revel in it. Your new machine won't go to waste on your family's liking for your creations. I like to bake but the minute yeast becomes involved, things just seem to go wrong for me, so...

I gave my old breadman bread machine away and I bought a new one. I also had old flour as well and that went to the person to whom I gave the old, beloved machine. I knew that I couldn't get the old wheat and rye flour out of it and I just bit the bullet and purchased a new one, which I love!! But yeah, bummer. You are probably going to have...

ARCHIVED This Is An Odd Development
AlysounRI replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never liked soda, and if I drank soda, it was always ginger ale, sprite, fresca, stuff like that. Cola always just gave me the big D so I always avoided it. Congrats to those who are kicking the soda habit!! You know you can always add fizzy tonic water to juice - boom, instant soda!! If I drink soda, it's real ginger ale, with lots of extra ginger... -

ARCHIVED This Is An Odd Development
AlysounRI replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Colas always made me sick and gave me stomach problems. When I went gluten-free for those three weeks (getting ready for tests no so I am back on the stuff ...) all things that were sweet tasted extra sweet to me. I tried some ginger ale in that time and it was cloyingly sweet and metallic tasting. I also found that I didn't crave sugar as I have... -
ARCHIVED Some People Are Cruel
AlysounRI replied to canutillomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is just sad ... and very. very cruel. I don't understand it at all. What does she have to prove? It's not her health - it's YOURS. Can you lend her some books so she can read up on it? Can you explain to her that this is a DISEASE, like diabetes. I am sorry that you went through that. What an awful experience. As it's family, it could... -
ARCHIVED Just Tried My First Larabar ...
AlysounRI posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To all that mentioned Larabars before, I want to thank you. I only found about 8 varieties (none of the ones I really wanted to try like the lemon and the lime ones) at the market today. I bought four different ones. They had a lot of the nut and chocolate ones and I am not keen on chocolate (yeah, I know I'm a freak .. ) and I tend to prefer fruit... -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Tortilla Out There That Can Bend?
AlysounRI replied to runningcrazy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second the Food for Life brown rice tortillas. I much prefer them to corn. I just heat them up in a pan like I would a corn totrilla. Turn them over a few times and they are ready to go. I don't own a microwave so ... ~Allison
