  1. I'll type the recipe out below. I have the larger Zo with the rectangular shaped loaf tray. I love this machine. If I can do it anyone can do it really!! I'm just not a natural baker. Everytime that I have done anything with yeast, it comes out really not quite right. The fact that this one worked is completely down to following Robert...
  2. If I could I'd email a slice over to you!! I want to try two more loaves this weekend and then bring them all into work on Monday as a part of my continued "I can't believe it's not wheat" baking series. Tomorrow is a rosemary olive loaf and greek holiday bread, both from Carol Fenster's book 1000 gluten-free recipies. She's got gluten-free alternative...
  3. Hi Guys: I finally took the plunge and made a loaf of whole grain bread (with sesame, flax and sunflower seeds) from Annalise Robert's book. It worked. I was so thrilled. It's dense, yes, but it's also fluffy inside. I made in my Zojirushi - it's a proper loaf of bread. I can do this. Yeast and I can actually get along, it's amazing!! Now...
  4. It seems that way due to the tests Going off gluten is the only thing that has really ever helped!! But the way I see it, is gluten really is 95 percent wheat. It's the staff of life, but not for a lot of people. It's more like the staff of pain ... I'm much happier now, much happier. It's cleared up so many of my problems. I've read that...
  5. Rice and salt, maybe with a little gluten-free chicken broth. When I had stomach upset I used to resort to a few saltines. But, obviously, not now. And I've had stomach upset for a long time. An old Greek woman I knew once swore by saltines and flat ginger ale. Salt tends to help the stomach, though I can't tell you the reason why. Hope you feel...
  6. Can it?? Really?? I love my rice cooker. Is a cup of the quinoa equal to a cup of brown rice and is the water level the same?? I tried quinoa a few years ago and I wasn't all that impressed but I'd like to revisit it now. ~Allison
  7. Hi All: I've recently acquired Carol Fenster's 1000 gluten-free Recipes. Most of her baked goods use Expandex modified tapioca starch. And I am wondering if anyone has used it and what have they thought? Also about how expensive is it? And how much do you get? Is is comparable to the amount and price of xantham/guar gum? Thanks for your replies...
  8. Put this down to my strange morose sense of humor, but this puts me in mind of the old Police song "Murder by Numbers" ... ~Allison
  9. You're not coming across as whiny at all!! We all know what this hell feels like. It will pass, sooner than later hopefully. But it sounds to me like taking a gluten challenge is not something you are going to want to do .... I hope you feel better soon ~Allison
  10. Then I recommend charcoal tablets!! Perhaps some rice crackers too. Or not. ~Allison
  11. Water always makes this kind of thing worse for me. When this happens to me, I just don't eat or drink anything. I'm not advocating it because it's not the optimal solution. I do sometimes take a few charcoal tablets. I'm sorry you are going through this. It's awful for you!! And I hope you get back to normal very soon!! ~Allison
  12. I've made mochicko in a few things. It's fantastic!! I like mochi in general, though Good luck with that recipe!! ~Allison
  13. I'm with the rest of the people that gave their opinions. Both my endo and my blood tests were normal except for the IgA levels. I am not willing to go back to eating what I know is poison for me!! If you want to do the blood testing, then great. If you don't want to do the endo, then great If you know that the gluten hurts you and you are...
  14. I wish you luck if you do!! Especially if you have a niche to fill!! I'm sure a lot of people in your state would thank you, too. ~Allison
  15. I saw David Lynch speak at my university a few years ago. He was touring to speak about the benefits of transcendental meditation. Turns out he's also a HUGE quinoa fan He talked about some experimentation with bringing TM into urban schools and the amazingly beneficial results it caused as well with better testing scores and a reduction of violence...
  16. God, I love that, A "Drive By Flouring". Brilliant. Hubby is very clever ~Allison
  17. Anxiety!! Bah!!! Calling you anxious is a polite way of calling you "emotional". Grrrrrrrrrrr. If celiac runs in your family, as it appears it does, then you are a prime candidate for it. Have they found any damage in all those endoscopies? Are they even looking for it? It seems like you are a prime candidate for it. I hope you can get a good...
  18. I already know that I have problems with dairy and I've avoided it as much as possible for most of my life. The only dairy I can really manage is yoghurt and some hard cheeses like parmesan and romano and the occasional piece of swiss cheese. Other than that I tend to stay away from it. I just can't think of what I had on Monday night (other than a nice spinach...
  19. Sorry you feel crappy too!! This just sucks. I'm fighting to get any work done today. I'm so foggy and slow. My arms feel like lead. I hope YOU feel better soon!! ~Allison
  20. Hi All: I went through testing and was not diagnosed celiac. I have been off the poison for about 3 weeks now. Yesterday I had some IBS flare-ups and felt like crap. Today I am dizzy and achy all over (esp. in my arms and legs) and I am slightly nauseous and just plain exhausted!! If you don't have the proper diagnosis of celiac, can you still...
  21. Hiya: Sweet rice flour -- or MOCHIKO flour -- is a completely different animal. You probably should't substitute it. You can get sweet rice flour in most Asian markets for cheap, or Bob's Red Mill has sweet rice flour as well. ~Allison
  22. You're welcome. I don't need to avoid corn but it's not anything I really like. So the discovery of those Food for life brown rice tortillas with sauteed ground beef with veggies and all the fixings is a great meal and you can get a few out of it. I can imagine that you would sometimes get burnt out!! I also sautee chicken in lemon juice and pomegranate...
  23. Okay, so no corn, beans, or nuts. I think I can come up with some ideas. Can you throw together a stir fry with assorted colorful veggies, and don't use sesame oil use oilve oil. All over rice. Or you can do Mexican with some Food for life brown rice tortillas, and ground beef and some tomatoes and peppers. Skip the cheese since you can't do casein...
  24. If it helps you to imagine little biohazard symbols over the doughnuts then do it. People often bring in food to my workplace and that's how I cope. Would you willingly ingest poison and it is very much poison to your body? Can you keep gluten-free treats at work for moments like this? We have a bagel and coffee thing a few times a month. I keep a...
  25. Hiya: I've got a friend with a small farm who swears by rosemary oil to keep the mosquitos away - it seems to work for black flies too. She's got to be out there in her fields from late Spring to early Autumn. I found this article out there. Maybe it will help? Open Original Shared Link ~Allison
