  1. Yesterday I discovered I cannot eat rice because it gives me diarrhea . I hope one day I shall be able to eat it again!
  2. I dont think you need an allergy test. You need a sensitivity or intolerance test. Only 3% of the population has allergies, versus 20% of the population that has intolerances/sensitivities. www.EnteroLab.com does sensitivity testing for gluten, soy, yeast, eggs and dairy. $99 per food. www.NowLEAP.com does sensitivity testing for 250 different foods...
  3. I wonder if you have hypothyroidism? It is a common to have Celiac Disease AND hypothyroidism. Check out the symptoms. If you do, you may notice a difference if you avoid ALL goitrogenic foods (they lower the thyroid). These are: Gluten, soy, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, rutabega, spinach, strawberries, peaches, canola oil, soy oil, corn oil,...
  4. I am also corn intolerant or sensitive. I never knew it until I removed it entirely from my diet for 4 months and then reintroduced it. When I began eating it again, I have SEVERE HEADACHES and DEPRESSION. I said the same thing to my Celiac family: Avoiding corn is 100 times harder than avoiding gluten!!!! It is in EVERYTHING!! And its not labeled...
  5. I am a Celiac living with hypothyroidism. I have been gluten free for a year now and have found I am also intolerant to soy, corn and nightshades. I am wondering: Has anyone ever reversed their hypothyroidism by just diet? Or will I need to use medication for the rest of my life?
  6. For those who are hypoglycemic, I would remove corn and soy from the diet entirely. Remember that corn is in EVERYTHING processed and has over 1000 different names. Type in "Corn allergy" to Google and see the list of different names/products. Many, many Celiacs are corn and soy intolerant and don't even know it. Many are also coffee intolerant. Try...
  7. Gluten-free, Legume-Free, Dairy-Free, Grain-Free, Nightshade-Free Vegan So, is there any hope that in the future I will be able to at least eat rice again? Yesterday, I discovered it is rice that gives me diarrhea. I also have hypothyroidism and am wondering does it contribute to the excess food sensitivities that I am experiencing?
  8. Try eliminating all soy, corn and legumes. I have two Celiac friends who discovered they could not eat these foods or they would have horrible gas, bloating, etc. If you feel like your diet is becoming too limited, eat squash and yams/sweet potatoes.
  9. You should also get the soy and yeast test too before they dispose of your stool sample. I believe I read that 60% of Celiacs are soy intolerant? Every Celiac I know cannot eat soy. So you should include that.
  10. I just read in the news that they've discovered there are TWO types of Celiacs: Those who have damaged villi in the intestines and those who do not. Try getting gluten sensitivity stool test at www.EnteroLab.com for $99. They have an accuracy rating of around 96% and have very good reviews online. They were the only laboratory to correctly diagnose...
  11. If anyone here has removed gluten from their diet but still struggles with depression -- keep in mind soy is a HUGE cause too. This includes soy lecithin and ANY traces of soy. Another food is corn -- and corn is in MILLIONS of items (google: "Corn Allergy" and check out the list of items). Another one is tomatoes and nightshades. But SOY is the MOST...
  12. You need to find a doctor who is an MD, ND (doctor & naturopath). My lab results are completely fine too but my doctor put me on hypothyroid medication anyway. I can increase or decrease my dosage depending on how I feel. CHANGE DOCTORS. Call around. Look for ones who want to treat their patients naturally, too. They are much more open.
  13. The standard blood test that doctors give patients to detirmine if they have Celiac Disease has an accuracy of about 60%. 40% of the time, the test is inaccurate. I suggest you get a stool test from www.EnteroLab.com (95% accuracy) for about $99. Also, you sound like you might have hypothyroidism. Do you frequently feel chilly? The thyroid tests...
  14. Have you tried getting a gluten sensitivity stool test from EnteroLab ( www.EnteroLab.com ) or tried getting a test at Cyrex ( www.cyrexlabs.com )? The test is about $130. For EnteroLab, you will send them a stool sample and for the Cyrex test you will send a blood sample. Both labs will send you little kits and information on where to go to get your...
  15. I recently saw a post somewhere on this forum (2 years old) that some Celiacs are sensitive to nightshade vegetables. Nightshades are potatoes, goji berries, eggplant, tomatoes, bell peppers, chili peppers, and several other peppers. The reactions can vary - from sleepiness, headaches or migraines. Some people claimed their skin became dry, their lips...
  16. I use avocados on my potatoes or rice instead of butter. It can be quite delicious with a little sea salt, cumin and curry.
  17. Be sure to take the sublingual tablets, not the pills/liquid that is absorbed in the stomach. Most Celiacs don't have 'intrinsic factor' and therefore cannot absorb b12. Buy sublingual tablets.
  18. For those of you who had stubborn acne before going on a gluten-free diet, I'm wondering the acne got better after starting the diet? I've had stubborn acne for 14 years now. Nothing has worked, but I've read that acne can be a symptom of gluten-intolerance. So, did a gluten-free diet make a difference for your acne?
  19. Hmmmm, if you are burning in between meals and HCl doesn't cause burning, I would assume that you have very low enzymes? When I spent the weekend at a raw-food retreat, we were told that many of us would experience extreme heartburn about 30 minutes after meals. This was because our bodies had not eaten enough raw foods (and too many processed foods!...
  20. This is so strange. I know know that I have celiac disease or at least am gluten-sensitive. When my sibling was diagnosed with celiac disease, I had to switch to a gluten-free diet to make things easier on my mom. I lived gluten-free for a year and then I had to go to a boarding school where I was back on gluten again. I developed a chronic cough that...
  21. I was thinking back over any symptoms that I may have experienced as a result of gluten in my lifetime. It just occurred to me that as a adolescent I developed a chronic cough for one entire year. It was a result of eating poorly (McDonald's)and I would cough horribly all day long except when I slept. When I saw my mom again several months later, she put...
  22. Wolicki, tell me if the low protein diet makes a difference for you? How are you doing?
  23. I always suspected I was a Celiac but the symptoms were never severe enough for me to actually go on a gluten-free diet. I had plenty of edema, I was irritable, I had acne that -never- cleared, weak stomach acid and a host of other "atypical" symptoms of Celiac Disease. Under stress a few years ago, my body stopped absorbing nutrients. I developed Chronic...
  24. Are you sure he does not have a gluten-sensitivity? I've spent 14 years trying to stop my acne. Acutane ruined the joints of my friends so they can't run anymore and made the facial skin of another friend too thin. I was too afraid to take it and instead have spent most of my time researching the cause and natural treatments of acne for the last... 8...
  25. Wow, that is great. I began a gluten-free diet about a week ago. I don't have the "traditional" edema on my body. I get it all over my face anywhere there is a pimple. The dermatologists (all seven of them) just kept prescribing more medications. I kept telling them for years that it must be caused by something in my diet. They just shrugged me...
