  1. I'm here. I'm not sure for how long--it was another early morning, by my standards, to be at a meeting 55 miles away for 8:30 am. Lie-in tomorrow as we don't have to be in until noon. I'm not really a morning person, unlike Jess. The first time I discovered that there was another five o'clock was because I was still up.
  2. So, we spent most of the day visiting a supplier at their plant. Trivia learned today: In Canada, there are 8.3 million pet cats, but only 5 million pet dogs. Canada is the only country where pet cats outnumber pet dogs. Cats rule! Dogs drool!
  3. Yes, it is gluten-free.
  4. Ah, the Sneezy sort of allergies that make you Grumpy and too Bashful to go out, but the meds make you Dopey and Sleepy, and there's no Doc to make you Happy again.
  5. I have been busy trying to be pserious. Early start tomorrow, so I'm off to bed. Hot day tomorrow, at least for Toronto in May.
  6. He posted three times ere he rode out of site.
  7. I have not had time to read the document fully, but overall it seems to be a very comprehensive introduction to the subject, and pretty accurate. Yes, there are some dubious items on page 13, and page 15 is confusing with regards to prolamins. It implies that all prolamins are gluten, which is not true. The relationship is, in fact, the reverse. The proteins...
  8. Unless you are super-sensitive, there are a lot of mainstream products which are suitable for the gluten-free diet. Label reading is a must. But there are a number of companies with a policy to clearly disclose all gluten sources on the label. Try these links for useful information: Unsafe ingredients. Safe ingredients. Open Original Shared...
  9. That combination is a huge red flag for diabetes. But diabetes would not have to be "instead" -- it could very well be "as well." Type I diabetes and celiac have a positive correlation. I am an example of someone with both.
  10. Shirleyujest, you mentioned croutons. This is from another thread, but you can have great gluten-free croutons. My own diagnosis was by positive biopsy. Blood testing was relatively new at the time and it was not done on me.
  11. Bev is in Massachusetts, so it is the same time for her as it is for you.
  12. I had lost a lot of weight due to malnutrition/malabsorption. At the bottom of the curve, I weighed 130 pounds, down from about 190. My ribs were visible. As my villi began to heal, I absorbed nutrients and began to gain weight rapidly. I am currently close to my "ideal" weight of 185.
  13. Happygirl is correct. As a linguist of sorts, I will offer that this is a good example of a noun being "verbed." For example, you can't "Xerox" a document, but you can copy it using a Xerox machine. You can't "Hoover" the rug, but you can clean it using a Hoover vacuum cleaner. Rant over. Welcome aboard.
  14. No, lactaid will not provide any benefit for casein (milk protein) intolerance. It is a source of lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose (milk sugar).
  15. Organic does not mean gluten-free. The two concepts are independent. Organic is about how the ingredients are grown or raised. A product can be organic and contain gluten.
  16. Please continue this discussion here, rather than start additional copies of the topic.
  17. I think the question is now moot, as it has changed to 5,556. It means that you are in 7th place overall for most posts on the board. Five of the top ten are known to be Silly. You need more than 10,000 more posts to catch the most prolific poster of all, jerseyangel.
  18. Of course you are not. I may drift in and out of visibility, but I never really leave.
  19. To the best of my knowledge, the United States is the only country where a wheat-derived ingredient is used in the production process for McDonald's fries. It has been discussed over and over on this board since the new US labeling law (FALCPA) went into effect more than three years ago. The question for people in the US is whether you can start with wheat...
  20. I wonder if Emily's penis earrings would be suitable? Newbies, I am not making this up. /uploads/emoticons/default_ph34r.png alt=''> Edited to add link.
  21. I have sent a message to ravenwoodglass asking her to read this topic. If you want a private reply, you should go to your own profile and deselect "Hide my email address from other members." This wording is misleading, since your email is not visible. It allows a user to send a message to your email without knowing your address. If you don't reply, they...
  22. Nothing, provided the bag is made from environmentally friendly post-consumer recycled material.
