  1. Patti, I'm so sorry to hear about Allo.
  2. Morning, pholks! Drab, dreary, dull day. But at least the rain seems to have stopped for now. Open Original Shared Link A horny crutch?
  3. The subject of this thread is the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. The last three posts prior to this one have nothing to do with that subject, but seem to be about intestinal parasites. Please stick to the topic. Click here to review the board rules.
  4. Here is a link to a discussion about celiac and military service. It is old, but is probably still relevant.
  5. I haven't posted here in a while, but I am reading along. I passed nineteen years smoke-free a couple of weeks ago. I am strongly supporting everyone's desire to go tobacco-free. YOU CAN DO IT! {{{Positive Energy Transmission}}}
  6. Try these links for useful information: Unsafe ingredients. Safe ingredients. Open Original Shared Link If you don't see "wheat, rye, barley, barley malt, oats" on the labels, its not there, or hidden in "flavors, starches, etc." I am not a supporter of lists--they are out of date the minute that you print them. Formulas are constantly changing...
  7. Um, that is a lot of sugar, but 10u might just cover two of them.
  8. It is indeed Joseph Fiennes standing with Rob. Fiennes will star in the series. That picture keeps popping up in different media, so the photographer, who is my SIL, is probably happy.
  9. Yes, we get feeds from the US network stations in Buffalo.
  10. Good afternoon, sillies! Open Original Shared Link It is in today's print edition. Open Original Shared Link Not much happening around here today.
  11. Neurological symptoms, including seizures, can occur with untreated celiac disease. Malabsorption of nutrients can affect brain function. B12 deficiency is very common and can be a factor.
  12. Happy Mothers Day to all the silly moms out there. Open Original Shared Link Jess has new pheathered phriends. I hope they work for chicken feed. The adventures of Angus. Sunny but cool today.
  13. The picture shows a Toyota 4Runner in the upper left corner. It now has a slightly "textured" hood. It could have been a lot worse. It is nine years old so the impact (PUN?) is minimal. We do aim to please. Hey, even oracles can have off days (or is that days off?). It seems that the worst of it was centered on Yonge and...
  14. I have no information about the availability of the new Starbucks thingamajig here in Canada.
  15. We had some interesting weather this morning. At around 9 o'clock, the sky darkened. It got so dark it was like it was the middle of the night. Then a major hailstorm moved through. Here's a picture of the store parking lot after the storm passed. Hailstones an inch in diameter around here, but larger ones were reported in some parts of the city. Four hours...
  16. Indeed. Get yur priorites straight, girl!
  17. I'm on FaceBook and I'm still confused. Apparently Susie's date stank in more ways than one???
  18. Celiac disease requires a completely gluten-free diet for life. It does not "go away." You can not "grow out of it." If a person has celiac disease, gluten causes damage to the body, even if observable symptoms do not present themselves.
  19. Um, I stuffed them all into the very full dishwasher and timed it to run in the middle of the night. Clean everything for breakfast tomorrow. Jacquie does breakfast and my morning coffee. Dinner is usually my purview, but we work on it as a joint project frequently. I wash the dishes (with mechanical help).
  20. Hang on, Judy. POSITIVE VIBES coming your way. You and I and everybody else here are non-smokers.
  21. Having the genetic factors means you have the potential to develop the disease, but the majority of those with the genes do not. Even with identical genes, such as in identical twins, there are examples where one has celiac disease but the other does not. If you are concerned, you can avoid gluten. The gluten-free diet is not dangerous or harmful in...
  22. Welcome to the board! Symptoms vary widely with celiac disease. There are many people who do not have any symptoms at all, but the antibodies are still being produced and doing damage to tissue. My own symptoms gradually got worse and worse over a period of about five years before my diagnosis. Nausea and diarrhea can vary significantly with the foods...
  23. Mixed answer here. Macaroni I just drain and then mix into the dish being made. Spaghetti is rinsed before serving, but the sauce is not watered down. A bit of residual water usually finds its way onto the place. When making lasagna, the cooked noodles are rinsed, but then sit in the colander long enough that the water has all dripped off before they make...
  24. Malabsorption is a part of celiac disease. This is because the ability of the small intestine to absorb nutrients is compromised by the damage to the villi. It is no different for medications. As the villi heal, absorption increases. Dosage levels of medications may need to be decreased. An exception to the rule involves diabetes. As absorption improves...
