  1. Gluten in adhesives is a story that comes up over and over. However, I have never seen a case where it was actually shown that an adhesive did, in fact, contain gluten. I'm not saying it isn't possible, just that I have never seen it actually happen.
  2. Welcome to the board, Teri. There is a lot of information here on the discussion board, and also on the parent site, celiac.com. The board is a huge mutual support group. Whatever your question is, it is likely that somebody here knows the answer. Celiac disease has many, many symptoms and everyone is different. Neurological symptoms are something I...
  3. Keep looking for gluten-free pasta. It is becoming much more common. Yes, it is more expensive than the stuff made from wheat. What is your health worth? What will it cost you if you develop other celiac-related health issues? For me it is an easy decision.
  4. Here is a link to Wikipedia regarding modified starch. Modified starch is very common. HTH
  5. Modified starch is starch that has been partially broken down. Unless it is from a gluten grain, which tapioca is not, it is suitable for a gluten-free diet.
  6. The activity today in this topic, and one other, is not typical of this board. If somebody is in the wrong place, it isn't you. Are you perhaps confusing the endoscopic biopsy procedure with a colonoscopy?
  7. Just speculating here. One possible cause would be if celiac.com was unable to set a cookie. Your logged in status is saved in a cookie named "forums_member_id" whose value is your member number. You will also have a cookie named "forums_pass_hash" which is an enciphered representation of your password. If either of these cookies is missing (or blocked...
  8. We've never done it without boiling the noodles first. I do recall seeing a recipe or two that called for uncooked noodles. It would save on clean up if we didn't have a pot and strainer to include in the wash-up. Serves six? Your mileage may vary. If the real Garfield was here, he would probably eat the whole thing himself. The two of us get three...
  9. Lasagne 1 lb ground beef 1 clove garlic, minced 2 x 5-1/2 oz cans of tomato paste 1-1/2 cups water 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp dried basil 1 tsp dried oregano 1 tbsp dried parsley 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/2 lb ricotta cheese 2 eggs, beaten 6 gluten-free lasagne noodles (or as many as needed to fit two layers in pan), cooked and drained 1/2 lb mozzarella...
  10. Emily, I sent you a PM with today's update from Melissa.
  11. Whether it will help depends very much on what your issue with dairy is. If lactose (milk sugar) is the issue, then these supplements can provide the lactase enzyme that your body is not producing. But if, like many celiacs, you are intolerant to casein (milk protein), then they won't do a darn thing for you.
  12. Not everyone who carries the genetic predisposition actually develops celiac disease. I don't know the exact numbers, but the majority of people with the gene never develop the disease. We are born with the genes, but it seems that a trigger of some kind is needed to "activate" the genes and begin the autoimmune response. The trigger is typically something...
  13. If you look carefully, you can see the corner of the coloUr-matched file folder containing the paperwork in question protruding from under his abdomen.
  14. Today being St. Patrick's Day, perhaps that should be O'Possum. Here's the promised photo of Ollie.
  15. Yes, he is the 13-year-old, 22-pound, gentle ginger giant. I am sitting at my desk, with some paperwork to do, and he is currently asleep on the desk. Photo to come... Okay, now he's awake, but still on the desk.
  16. Good morning, all. Oliver's sugars were down to 15.6 this morning, before insulin and feeding. Sunny and mild today. Rain tomorrow.
  17. Moi? It has been a long day. I don't think I can get excited even about French Maids with furry parts. Our furry friend, Oliver, is sleeping beside me as I type this. He is not well. We took him to the vet this morning. He has two problems (comprehensive blood tests showed nothing else). He has a bladder infection and is on a course of ABX for the next...
  18. Quiet here, isn't it? Oh, wait, Emily and Patti are traveling. Not much more to say tonight. It has been a busy day for me, and I'm probably gonna call it a night soon.
  19. I enjoy it on a regular basis with no issues.
  20. I don't think that she was saying that at all. Leaving aside the question of whether DH and celiac disease are the same or different, the fact remains that the treatment for DH is the strict adherence to a gluten-free diet.
  21. Bring your sunglasses. Sunny mild. 9 today and 14 tomorrow.
  22. I would keep it, but that is just my own opinion. I am sure we will hear from those who disagree. There are fractions of fractions that are themselves fractions, but no matter how many times we divide the result will not be a mathematical zero. My thoughts--others will differ.
  23. There are three of you living in the house. Are you all going to be 100% gluten-free? If so, then you need to clean your house (mostly your kitchen) once, and then stop worrying. An ordinary dishwasher will clean most things in your kitchen to a level that I would consider safe. That is my own opinion, and there may be some folks on here who differ...
  24. This is indeed a day of sadness in Sillyville, but it is times like these that we all stand together in support of ones in need. Today, it is Lisa. Lisa, we are all here for you, and are praying for you and your family in your time of need. May God be with you.
