  1. No, but close. It was an IBM System/360, Model 75.
  2. Probably the photographer. Tis a professional studio shot, commissioned by my grandmother. I first dabbled in computers about ten years after that shot was taken. That first one filled a room the size of a gymnasium.
  3. So, check my avatar for a photo of me taken in 1957.
  4. I have a picture here that was taken in 1957. At least one older one exists; the question is whether I can find such things.
  5. Um, the mix has both sugar and brown sugar. Since they are opposite colours, they cancel each other out, don't they? Patti, putting them directly on the Baker's Secret sheet worked fine. Thanks.
  6. So thinking about Michell and the Quest got me to phiguring out how my new scanner can digitize my photographs from the pre-digital days so I could upload some pictures from our 1994 road trip to Alaska. I selected 58 from the collection of 375, and made a photo album on Da Book. Enjoy. Off to bake gluten-free chocolate chip cookies.
  7. Maybe Patti saw a post about cookies somewhere else. There is more to this board than just the silly thread.
  8. This is so true. This can happen even in a supposedly gluten-free facility if employees come back from lunch with crumbs on their hands or clothing. Despite all the precautions you may take, and that manufacturers of food products may take, there can be no absolute guarantees.
  9. It is common for people with celiac disease to have other sensitivities. This is especially true in the early stages of recovery. An adverse reaction to mold is common, whether you have celiac disease or not. It is not valid to assume that just because a person with celiac disease has a reaction to something that the substance in question contains gluten...
  10. Mono and diglycerides are gluten-free. So are triglycerides, for that matter.
  11. Welcome aboard. We are now completely gluten-free, but for many years we had a mixed kitchen. We put everything into the dishwasher, and treated it as safe when it came out. Things to be concerned about are those that are porous or scratched. Wooden spoons are the biggest item, but scratched non-stick pans and scratched plastic utensils or dishes are...
  12. It is drawing ever closer. Phate awaits phor one of us.
  13. So, we take a four-day weekend, and how are we spending Sunday? Cleaning the phreekin' house. Chocolate, schmocolate, pass the vacuum.
  14. When a product consists of only one ingredient, and that is the description on the main label, an ingredients list is not required. This is frequently the case with pure spices, including black pepper. An ingredients list is only required if the product contains some other ingredient, i.e., it is not 100% pure.
  15. Emily's husband and Michelle's husband are brothers.
  16. Good morning! Just barely made that--almost noon here. We're taking a looong weekend off. We don't have to be at work until Wednesday morning. (OK. We do have to drop by on Monday to feed Becky & Caramel, but the store is closed for the holiday.)
  17. Geez. I'm not even on phacebook. Does this mean I have to join that site?
  18. Spelt is a form of wheat, and contains gluten as gliadin. While there may be some people with an allergy to wheat who can tolerate spelt, it is actually higher in gluten content than regular wheat, and so celiacs must avoid it completely.
  19. Hmm. I probably don't know dick about what you ladies are discussing. I once used a calculator made by Wang. I posted a picture of my tool some time back--remember? I don't just want to post thoughts here willy-nilly, but our bird feeder is mounted on top of a pole on the deck. I don't know if I can keep this up, but there might be more if I poke around....
  20. Possibly. Bouillon is usually made from a dehydrated source to which water is added. In my experience, when the source is a powder or concentrated liquid it is usually safe, but cubes are usually held together by a gluten-containing stabilizer. It can vary by brand as well. Knorr make a number of products in this area, and they will always clearly disclose...
  21. No. Plain sour cream is gluten-free.
  22. So, while we are all basking in unseasonably warm weather, it is hard to realize that there are less than four days remaining until the start of this year's Open Original Shared Link For those of you who weren't here last year, one of us has a personal connection to Open Original Shared Link
