  1. I'm here. That is, I'm back... I once was lost but now am found. We have been having trouble for a while with our internet connection at home. After multiple calls to 1-800-Call-India, I got to talk to somebody on the same continent that I am on yesterday, and it was determined that perhaps we really did have a problem. A technician was scheduled...
  2. You took charge of his health, and it made a difference. Congratulations on a year of dealing with this.
  3. What Tiffany said is right. This is not about adding fractional numbers. Yes, if you add half a gram to half a gram, you do get a gram. These are ratios, and the numerator and denominator are both changing. You can take 20 ppm of an ounce, or 20ppm of a ton--the ratio is still 20ppm.
  4. Happy birthday!
  5. Another clear and COLD morning here!
  6. Well, as Jestgar said, it just could be that she is a celiac and she also had a tapeworm.
  7. A negative biopsy really doesn't prove much. A number of samples are taken from the lining of the upper small intestine. The number is usually rather small. The damage may be spotty in many cases. An analogy which may help understand the accuracy of the biopsy follows. It is graphic, but effective. Imagine that your front lawn is 25 feet wide and...
  8. Em, does your dad get his jackets the same place Don Cherry does?
  9. There are many good people here who support each other. Have a look around, and join in the discussions that interest you. For some really funny stuff, there is an ongoing thread now in its third year. You don't have to read the whole thing (although I actually have), just jump in on the current page <click here>. It is little online community...
  10. Celiac and a wheat allergy are independent conditions. The scratch test will not tell you anything about celiac disease. It will tell you if she has an allergy to wheat.
  11. Hi, and welcome. The time of day would not have much if any effect on the tTG-IgA test if gluten is being ingested on a regular basis. The antibody levels don't vary that quickly. Unfortunately, testing is known to be less reliable in young children, so I would not take a negative as conclusive. Even in adults, false negatives can occur. You can...
  12. First off, I am not a doctor, so I can not diagnose. I am in Ontario, Canada. tTg of 45 suggests to me an indication of celiac disease. Your doctor can confirm this, or offer an alternative explanation to this result.
  13. Perhaps she should have said "less invasive."
  14. Um, aren't squirrels just rats with bushy tails?
  15. Yeast is not a concern, with one exception. If a food label mentions "brewer's yeast" then it is possible that the yeast has been used to ferment barley. This is rarely the case. Any other form of yeast is gluten-free. In the United States, there is no regulation at present defining the words "Gluten-Free" for food labels. In Canada, there is a clear...
  16. We had a customer ask to use the facilities on Saturday, so I said, go ahead, it's over there... Phorgot to warn her.
  17. My own answer would be, if you already have a positive diagnosis through blood testing, then a DNA test won't tell you anything you don't already know. But for your daughter, it might indicate whether she has the predisposition to develop celiac disease at some point.
  18. I had just turned 46 when I was given the biopsy results.
  19. So here's an interesting thing that has been going on over the last week or so at the store. We are just off Toronto's main street, facing North. There is another building behind us, and there is about a foot of space between the two structures. There is a small washroom in the SE corner, with a window. Since the view is of a cinder-block wall a foot away...
  20. Brilliant sunshine from a clear blue sky! -10oC with wind from the North at 19 km/h.
  21. I'm confused. According to mayfaire, this quotation is "hostile": But, I suppose, this one is not?
  22. YMMV? Your mileage may vary.
  23. Ach! Deutsch! Das ist nicht Gluten! Good day, all. Tis a tad on the chilly side here in Markham this morning. -17oC, with a wind out of the north at 20 km/h making it feel like -27oC. Off to work i go...
  24. The Bloody Caesar is a Canadian thing. I would trust Mott's claim that their clamato juice is gluten-free. I don't drink it, or any other clamato, because I have an allergy to shellfish.
