ARCHIVED Fast Food French Fries
psawyer replied to stephaniesherie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
McDonald's fries are the most-discussed topic here. There is a wheat-derived component in a flavor added to the oil in which the fries are partially cooked before being frozen. The final product has been independently tested and found to contain no detectable gluten. Make you own decision. I eat them occasionally. I have no knowledge of Sonic, and... -
ARCHIVED Popcorn, Indiana Kettle Corn
psawyer replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lots of responses to this. None of them disagree about the safety of this product. Nothing to see here folks, let's move on. -
ARCHIVED Popcorn, Indiana Kettle Corn
psawyer replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Such a chart would be of interest to all of us, I expect. You are a scientist. I don't know how much spare time you have, but if you could investigate this, we would all benefit from the results. -
ARCHIVED Popcorn, Indiana Kettle Corn
psawyer replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whether there is an "actual, accepted description," or not, it is pretty clear what she means. She is sensitive to cross-contamination, and reacts in a short time. -
Ron, I share your frustration. Eating out is a challenge, and a risk most of us take from time to time. I'm sorry your experience was unpleasant. You have had some replies that were not very supportive, and I regret that that happened here. This place is supposed to provide support and help.

ARCHIVED Natural And Artificial Flavors
psawyer replied to Adeckman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
While "natural flavors" can contain gluten, they very rarely actually do. The most likely source would be barley malt, and that is a relatively expensive ingredient, so it is usually explicitly declared as "malt flavor." If there were wheat in it, in the US (and Canada) it would be required by law to be disclosed as just that, "wheat." Open Original... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
psawyer replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My errands for today: the bank, the post office, and at least two grocery stores. Meanwhile, Jacquie is off to have lunch with her sister and visit her father. -
I'm not sure just what type of implant you are considering, but I have more that one crown and there were no issues. The actual implant is made of machine-ground porcelain and is secured to the base of the tooth with a gluten-free adhesive compound. The concern is a valid one, but in 12 years I have never found a dental compound that did, in fact, contain...

ARCHIVED That's It I'm Going Vegetarian
psawyer replied to allergyprone's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am not a vegetarian, but from conversations with friends who are, soy is a staple protein in their diets. If you also eliminate eggs and peanuts, there are not many protein sources left. You say you are lactose intolerant. If you don't have an issue with casein, hard cheeses such as old Cheddar or Swiss could work. Beans and lentils are other good options... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question?

Of course, in your case, they would also need to be dairy-free. -

Indianapolis! With Lisa (curlyfries) at the Outback near I-465 and I-70: We need to be home by Thursday, and are out of range of any more sillies for this loop. Heading home in the morning. An eastward loop trip may be in the not-too-distant future. -
ARCHIVED Arrezzio Sliced Ripe Olives
psawyer replied to fairmontpizza's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know if anyone here will know the answer. That brand is not sold at retail outlets. It is only sold wholesale to the food service trade (restaurants and institutions). I have not ever encountered olives that were not gluten-free--where did you hear that some were not okay? -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Inquiry For AZ gluten-free'ers
psawyer replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I was at their Sedona location a week ago and had a great experience. -
I have never encountered an anti-caking agent that had gluten. Where I am, cellulose is commonly used--derived from wood pulp. Calcium silicate is gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Sucralose
psawyer replied to Ebonyjade93's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is made from sucrose, modified by replacing three of the hydroxyl (OH) groups with chlorine. It is gluten-free. -
You need to load them into a site to which you can link, such as flickr or photobucket. Then post the link using the IMG tag: The above image is created by posting: [img=http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e339/tortoiseshell2002/Psillies/Martini3.webp]

We are in Oklahoma City tonight. Heading to Kansas City tomorrow where we plan to meet with kareng. Next stop is Saturday afternoon in St. Louis where we will meet up with one of J's cyberfriends. They met once before. Indianapolis is not out of our way heading home. I know Lisa (curlyfires) needs a big hug. Janet, are you in? -
Gluten In Cigarettes
psawyer replied to SarahSway's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This topic is more than a year old. Some information may be out of date. chelsra, if you have specific evidence of gluten in the adhesive or paper, please provide it. I have never found proof that this is anything other than a celiac myth. Flavor might possibly contain gluten, but, again, this is rumor without much proven fact. There are plenty of... -
ARCHIVED Testing After Being Gluten Free
psawyer replied to Peppa-minto's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A diagnosis is the result of test results in most cases. Arguing that they are different is semantics. This whole topic has turned into a heated discussion which long ago ceased presenting new ideas, and is just repeating the same ones over and over. It is time for everyone to move on. -
