  1. Can you post the ingredients? Then we could have a look.
  2. Although I have seen some lists that mention root beer, I have yet to discover a root beer that actually does contain gluten.
  3. The OP was last logged in here on Aug 16, 2008.
  4. It has been Open Original Shared Link that Her Royal Highness, the Dutchess of Cambridge is into thongs. Who knew (besides the Duke)?
  5. This is a very important observation. A correlation between two events does not mean one causes the other.
  6. Back on Chrome and all is well.
  7. I don't usually use FireFox, but I am using it right now and don't seem to have a problem. I most often use Google Chrome, but sometimes use IE. I also have Safari installed, and use it here occasionally. As a moderator, I sometimes need to look into questions about how to use the board under a variety of browsers.
  8. I agree that steering clear of the buffet is a good idea, especially if it is self-serve. There are plenty of gluten-free beverages you could have. Wine is gluten-free. Distilled spirits are generally accepted as gluten-free, but if you want to avoid grain alcohol, rum is never made from grain. Smirnoff vodka is made from corn, which is not a source of...
  9. Oscar is a bit of a cynic. Yes, do talk to your doctor. Enterolab has been the topic of many lively discussions here and remains a controversial subject.
  10. Thanks for the post. Just a heads up to our US members: Campbell's gluten-free list is quite different between the two countries. Many of these products are sold in the US under the same name, but containing gluten.
  11. There is some safe chocolate, although I can't provide good information. As a diabetic, I don't eat much chocolate. The gluten source to be concerned about in chocolate is sweetening from malted barley. It may be labeled as "malt extract," or "malt flavor." Unless the source of malt is explicitly declared as something else, malt means barley which means gluten...
  12. It was said before, but I will underline the point. Thirty per cent of the population in North America carry a gene associated with celiac disease. Only about one per cent will develop celiac disease during their lifetime. The genes are predictive as to risk, but a trigger is required to activate celiac disease.
  13. In the US, if caramel color is made from wheat, then "wheat" must appear on the label by federal law (FALCPA). Wheat disclosure is also required in Canada, but in a regulation rather than statute law. Caramel color made from wheat is found in Europe, but it has no detectable gluten. That is, the color has less that 5 ppm gluten. As an ingredient it forms...
  14. The poster is in Canada. In Canada, "smoke" is "generated from the direct combustion of hardwood, hardwood sawdust or corn cobs." Open Original Shared Link
  15. I don't see anything to be concerned about.
  16. Thank you, everybody. It has been a good day. I am currently sitting out on the back deck with our two cats enjoying a pleasant evening. The temperature is moderate, the humidity is mild, and there is a light breeze. Too light to keep a few determined skeeters grounded.
  17. I have no specific knowledge of that particular rum, but I am not aware of any rum that is not gluten-free. Caramel color is gluten-free without any doubt. What else was in the mojito?
  18. If the tocopherols were derived from wheat, then that would have to be disclosed on the label as "wheat" under US federal law (FALCPA). Perhaps you have an issue with tocopherols that is not related to gluten.
  19. Yes, it has happened, although not to me personally.
  20. That was not a typo. New members of the thread sometimes don't know of our history, of which Em's ho tub is just one element. Long time members here also know of the yeti, my balls, and other esoteric stuff. Members have come and gone since then, but there are a core group of us who have been here for a long time. A brief history of the early...
  21. Unless something is terribly wrong at the processing facility, you are eating the muscular flesh of the pig, not the contents of its digestive tract. Pork, beef, veal, lamb, chicken, turkey, and other meats are gluten-free. It is not uncommon to discover a "new" sensitivity after going gluten-free. When we are eating gluten on a regular basis, the effects...
  22. Trader Joe's: (TJ's own brands only) From their gluten-free foods downloadable document: " 'Natural flavors' and 'spice" listings in our private label products are gluten free." TJ's goes out of their way to note if a product is manufactured on shared equipment with wheat products. Natural flavors are not the worry they once were, BTW.
  23. And did you catch how Canadian Kate's hat is. Look closely. Those are red maple leaves. Totally Canadian, eh? Here's a better look:
