  1. Hmmm. I'm confused as to why you are frustrated. This is a clear answer, in my view. Read the label and the ingredients in that package will be disclosed.
  2. Taste of the Wild and Weruva are two brands of grain-free canned food in a chunky style that I can think of offhand. Some of the Wellness canned formulas are grain-free, but they are loaf (pate) style, not chunky.
  3. You don't want to see my primary email inbox then. It contains over 10,000 items going back over ten years. And, yes, I do delete a lot of stuff, otherwise it would be twice that size.
  4. And some, including Hasselbeck's, have incorrect information. I haven't actually read it, but others who have, have commented on this board about the misinformation in it. Beware.
  5. Would you please post the exact question that you asked, and the exact reply that you were given. "Not gluten-free" is often a legal disclaimer when the product is in fact gluten-free, but they do not test for possible contamination of the ingredients.
  6. I remember September 11, 2001, well. I was out of work, having been let go from my position of six years two months previously. I had planned to wait until vacation season was over, and look for work in the fall. It was a Tuesday. My wife operated a pet food and supply store, where I helped out. Tuesday was when we got our weekly delivery at that location...
  7. Yes, this time of year I am taking it daily. No problems.
  8. Thank you for posting. Read the paragraph that I quoted carefully, because hidden in it is the best possible message a person with celiac disease can ever get from a food manufacturer: Gluten grains will always be named in the ingredients if they are present in the product. Many other companies have a similar disclosure policy. Kraft, General Mills and Unilever...
  9. Please note this topic is more than six years old. Label rules in both Canada and the USA have changed since 2005. I don't see any gluten red flags in the ingredients in the last post, but I am not familiar with the rules in China.
  10. Distilled vinegar is gluten-free, regardless of what the original source was. In the US, if the source was wheat, then that would have to be explicitly declared on the label. The distillation process purifies the end product in a way that the large, heavy gluten molecule can not pass through.
  11. Caramel color is gluten-free. I don't know where you got this idea. Once upon a time it may have had an element of truth, but today beef patties at fast food establishments are 100% beef. McDonalds led the way decades ago ("two all-beef patties"), and I don't know of any chain that doesn't follow today. If you know of one that isn't pure beef, please...
  12. I have not read those books. It sounds that they may have misinformation on some things. I recommend Shelley Case's book, which I have read. It is full of practical, realistic advice; recipes; and sources of gluten-free food. For more info, visit her site Open Original Shared Link She lives in Canada, and serves on the advisory board of the Canadian Celiac...
  13. How long have you been gluten-free? If celiac disease has damaged your intestines, it may take quite a while for symptoms to completely clear up. During that time, they may "just happen" for no apparent reason. I saw immediate improvement, but it took several months for the symptoms to completely go away.
  14. False negatives are quite common. False positives, although possible, are rare.
  15. This is an old thread. The original poster has not been on this board in well over a year. Information may be out of date.
  16. Frequently. Did somebody offer a Martini?
  17. The carbonation is not a concern, but you could have an issue with high fructose corn syrup which is used as the sweetener in almost every non-diet soda sold in the US. You can find sugar-sweetened ones in bottles in some markets, but if it came from the fountain it has HFCS.
  18. I don't know how long you went undiagnosed. It can take considerable time to heal the intestines once you are on the gluten-free diet. During that healing period, symptoms may continue even though gluten has been eliminated. On that scale, one month is very little time. For me, it took more than three months gluten-free before my symptoms completely went...

  20. I hear your frustration. On the other side of the debate, McDonalds is only a little less regimented than the army. Every step of every process is clearly specified in the operating procedures, and those are rigorously enforced every step of the way. Even if the manager did not know WHY things have to be done a certain way, she almost certainly knew what...
  21. *** Old Topic Alert *** This topic was dormant for more than six years. The post above revived it. Please be aware that information here may be out of date, and most of the previous participants are no longer active members of the board.
  22. What Karen said!
  23. My friends here know that I enjoy a Beefeater traditional martini, but I am currently sipping Bacardi Gold on the rocks. I am unaware of any distilled spirit that contains detectable levels of gluten, although some of us seem to react to the fragments of protein that make it through the distillation process. I have heard, but not confirmed, that some single...
  24. Parts per million is a ratio. It is like a percentage, except that percent is parts per hundred. It applies equally to any amount of the item in question, whether one small bite or the entire package. Part of the dilemma is that you don't know for sure how many ppm there are. The company tests for 20 because there is a relatively easy and inexpensive test...
  25. I looked at the ingredients list, and it is actually quite helpful. Compound ingredients are broken down in parentheses, and some of these are further broken down. They aren't hiding anything. There are "contains" statements for major allergens, which includes wheat. So if gluten is hiding, it is hidden barley. I saw one item with malt vinegar clearly listed...
