I've read several articles over the last year linking GMOs and Monsanto crap and the incredible rise of celiac disease in people. It's made me more aware and willing to eat cleaner and healthier... no matter what the cost in my rural area of the U.S.

We had one health food store in Mountain Home... 25 miles away... now there are two!! Woo hoo!! At the one store, the owner offered to order anything I wanted/needed, but I had to tell him that while I certainly appreciated his effort to help me and how I'd like to patronize local businesses... gluten-free food is expensive and I can order from the online...

I was diagnosed at age 48 after only 2 months of ANY symptoms. I guess it can happen at any time! My 3 daughters have been diagnosed in their mid 20s and early 30s.

I've been to many CFAs and never had a problem! I have fries and their Ranch dressing to dip in. It's my only fast food pleasure... and rare, as there are none where we live!

Thoughts??? You're damaging your small intestine every time you eat even a tiny piece of bread!! Are your experiences related to eating bread even occasionally? I'd think SO!! Bread seems to be one of the easiest things to replace anymore... even gluten free bagels are good... so do yourself a favor!!!

I went thru the nighttime diarrhea too. After going gluten-free, it went away. It returned recently, and I've come to the sad conclusion that it's dairy causing it this time. I'm finding going dairy free more difficult that going gluten-free was!!

Anybody Out There A Morbidly Obese Celiac?

A few months ago my BMI was 31... considered obese. I'm trying hard to change my eating habits and am now at a BMI of 29... just overweight. On the contrary... I gained about 30 lbs!! I'd only had symptoms for a few months and hadn't lost weight like so many do. Then I cooked and baked and ate all the gluten free versions of what I was giving up! People always asked me what the symptoms of celiac disease are and I'd tell them one of the biggest is unexplained weight loss... then I look down...

No prep ('cept no eating after like 11 pm...) UNLIKE a colonoscopy... they put you into a really nice sleep... heated hospital blankets... that test was one of the best I've ever had!!

I'd have to agree w/ Portland, too. There's this really neat little bakery that looks like a Gingerbread house w/ the most yummy gluten-free stuff. I moved to Arkansas where there's NO gluten-free stuff in stores, but I can order anything I need from Amazon and if I buy $25 worth of stuff (so I just wait till I need a few things)... shipping is free and... -
No gluten free experiences to share... but PLENTY of 1960s and 1970s experiences to share that have NOTHING to do w/ food!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE LBI!!!

If he was on dialysis, that's got to do with kidneys... maybe he had what the young kid on Different Strokes had... dang... I can't remember his name... that made him really small and short... and in need of a new kidney!
