  1. My middle daughter is very interested in this subject. She was FINALLY diagnosed bipolar about 5 or 6 years ago and has been doing a lot better w/ the help of awesome doctors and a good medical cocktail. She was diagnosed w/ celiac about 4 years ago. Now she's really wondering what being gluten free and bipolar might have to do w/ each other. It's a subject...
  2. I've sent letters (I always write a letter when sending sympathy thoughts) to one cousin and asked that they share my letter w/ their siblings as I'm thinking of all of them, rather than sending each one a separate but similar letter. But they all live close to each other and see each other often. I understand your hurt, tho.
  3. My husband makes wheat pasta all the time. I've never had a problem w/ it.
  4. What are the ingredients?? Malt (barley) flavoring is the one that's in most cereals that make them no good for us.
  5. I've been using Pamela's bread mix for years w/ no problems. Is this a new problem that all of her mixes were contaminated w/ millet flour? Or that it contains millet flour and you reacted to it? Are you asking if anyone HERE had the same problems or did we HEAR that all her mixes were contaminated?? Sorry I'm being dense, but I'll be really upset if...
  6. That looks really good... but I get so frustrated w/ recipes w/ so many different types of flour. This recipe used SEVEN different kinds (if you count the flax seed as a flour). I have most of them... but not all of them... and find storing them all kind of a pain in the butt!
  7. I don't often eat breakfast anymore. The idea of needing carbs at every meal is that got me to the extra 40 lbs. I've been carrying around for all these years! When I did... I'd slather peanut butter bewt. rice cakes... or smush a ripe banana betw. 2 waffles and eat 'em on my way to work. Sometimes I'd have yogurt and chopped nuts.
  8. Having nothing to do w/ anything... your avatar is about the cutest face I've ever seen!!!
  9. Boo hoo hoo... dairy's not my friend these days. Good thing I didn't buy that Cuisinart ice cream maker I'd been longing for!! And yes... I'd LOVE some cheese w/ my WHINE... oh wait... hold the cheese!!
  10. I thought both Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles were gluten free. I don't like them so I'm not sure. There are several "Chex" cereals that are labled gluten-free. I only like the plain corn and rice Chex, and I know there was some issue w/ one of the newer flavored ones, but I know the corn and rice are gluten-free. I heard that KIX is now gluten-free. ...
  11. I have lots of stories like that... the kind friend who told me there was no wheat in her soup and dipping me out a big bowl... to find pasta floating everywhere. Or the waitress who said she understood my food issues and brought me the salad that was absolutely gluten-free and at the bottom was a layer of chinese noodles... "Oh... THOSE are made from wheat...
  12. If there's one thing I've learned here is that if you put 100 celiacs in a room, you'll have 100 different sets of symptoms. She didn't mean to be ignorant, but she only has one frame of reference.
  13. My doc told me it was common in those of Irish ancestry (me, altho there's no fam history). I've read that it's also common in Jews (their dad, altho there's no fam history there either). The kids were doomed!! Oldest DD is just happy she got to eat gluten the longest.
  14. Oldest daughter has just been diagnosed. So, I've been gluten-free for 9 years, middle daughter for about 4, youngest daughter for 1 and now oldest's positive bloodwork makes it 4 for 4. At least she lives in Portland where shopping for gluten-free food and eating out is a heckuva lot easier than it is in rural Arkansas! And at least she's been familiar w...
  15. We go to Chilis occasionally. They have a wheat/gluten "allergy" menu and I've never had a problem there. Tonight, I ordered my usual... the baked potato soup and a house salad (w/o croutons). Two bites into the salad... I pulled out a tortilla strip! They were very apologetic and took the salad off the bill... I was already full from the soup and didn...
  16. I went to a restaurant a few years ago and they were happy to tell me that another server had celiac so she came over and told me all the things I could eat on the menu. My dinner came w/ a dessert of rice pudding... and just as I was about to put the first spoonful into my mouth, this celiac server HAPPENED by, saw me, and nearly knocked the spoon out of...
  17. My last intentional glutening was about a year after I was diagnossed. I'd always loved making yummy loaves of beautiful bread and made several different kinds for a party. It smelled so danged good, I cut off a big hunk, slathered it w/ tons of butter, and chowed it down, while my daughter was yelling, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!" It was absolutely delicious. And...
  18. Wheat in Twizzlers cracks me up! What's the purpose?? I only had symptoms for several months before finding out it was celiac... I was lucky, I guess. I could have used a little of that "unexplained weight loss" tho...
  19. No Udi's in my neck of the woods... No Pamela's mix either. I buy it from Amazon too. I combine my order w/ an order of Tinyada pasta and shipping is FREE! I make Pamela's bread mix into rolls and even their bagel alternative. I love it!!
  20. I also replied in your other thread... I think they've just chosen a poor term. I think they MEAN gluten free, but all the other allergy listings are about allergies... like nuts. If they're updating it regularly, maybe they'd clarify it?? That SAID... they fry lots of stuff there. I'd be very skeptical about their french fries, which are listed as wheat...
  21. I'm assuming they're calling it a wheat allergy rather than celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. Chilis menu says wheat and gluten allergy. Their wording's not great. What concerns me tho, is that they list french fries as safe, but they also have fried onion rings and other fried things at Applebees. I'd question them good about that one!
  22. I've been gluten free for 9 years. Now I've come to the undeniable conclusion that dairy's the thing that's been giving me new and different problems for months! Believe it or not... I'm finding going dairy free much harder than going gluten free!
  23. This is a double-edged sword for me. On one hand... I can't WAIT for the bisquick... I've missed dumplings in stew! On the other hand... I don't need ONE excuse to embrace convenience food!
  24. Don't be scared! No everyone gains weight. Some gain a little... some of the weight they lost... and they're really happy about it. I did gain weight, but it was MY fault... not my gluten-free diet's fault. I ate too much. I filled up on breads and pastas that I COULD have to make up (in my mind) for all the things I could no longer have. I didn't eat lots...
  25. That's exactly what my daughter's going thru (the 3rd in our family to be diagnosed). She's also cut out dairy and spices and so many things... she's down to about 5-6 kinds of protein and few veggies... no fruits, etc. She's getting too thin!!
