ARCHIVED Maggiano's Restaurant In Phila... Boo... Hiss
luvs2eat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This is the letter my daughter, who's also Celiac, sent to the Brinker's International Company in response to her asking Maggiano's about accommodating her. I am beyond outraged. I have Celiac Disease and am therefore intolerant to wheat/gluten. This makes it difficult for me to eat in restaurants, but I usually call ahead to see what I can and can... -
ARCHIVED Jack's Fire House In Philadelphia - Review!
luvs2eat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Holy cow... was this restaurant awesome!! It's in an old fire house and the evening was beautiful (04/20/07) so we could sit outside. The same helpful manager who emailed me earlier in the day seated us... and brought our wait person over and explained what we needed. The meats (smoked brisket, pulled pork, etc.) and BBQ sauces were TO DIE FOR!!! We couldn... -
I emailed them and told them I have Celiac Disease and asked if they could accommodate me and my Celiac kid. The manager emailed me back very quickly and told me they've had several people come to Jack's who have Celiac... that all their BBQ sauces are gluten-free as are most of their entrees and to just make sure to tell my server about my food issues and...

ARCHIVED I've Started Watching The Food Network
luvs2eat replied to BamBam's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I used to love the Food Network... watched for years... but there are so many repeats now and too many shows for the most annoying cooks (Rachel Ray, Emeril) who used to be great before they became so overexposed. I still watch repeats of Ina Garten and love Ellie Krieger on the weekends, but I've been switching over to HGTV more and more. -
ARCHIVED Warning, Outback Steakhouse!
luvs2eat replied to snomnky's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
And as nice as the people are and as complete a gluten-free menu they offer... you're still at the mercy of what happens behind the closed doors of the kitchen by clueless cooks, etc... not that I'm blaming them... but we can explain to the waitperson till we're blue in the face about our needs... and how that translates to the people actually touching your... -

Bread mixes from Manna from Anna that you can order online are the best there is!! -

ARCHIVED 10 Things I Hate About Celiac
luvs2eat replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. Not being able to eat the rustic country loaf of bread I make, now, for others. 2. Not being able to eat the beautiful challah bread that I make, now, for others. 3. Not being able to eat at any fast food place... I don't WANT salad when I go there. 4. Not being able to eat the best bread on earth... REAL french bread in France. 5. Not being... -

ARCHIVED Non-celiacs Eating Gluten Free Products
luvs2eat replied to erica33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My hubby eats gluten-free food (pasta included) all the time and never has a problem. The only problem I see w/ some of them is that they're EXPENSIVE and if he can eat regular food that's way cheaper, he does. -
I tend to pick only a foil wrapped baked potato and a steak... anything else is too easily cross contaminated.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Restaurants In King Of Prussia, Pa
luvs2eat replied to mjmooers's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My daughter had a very good experience at The Cheesecake Factory. They told her their fryer is dedicated and she was happy w/ her meal. -
Hope I'm not too late either, but El Vez is very gluten-free friendly (and YUMMY!). Just last night we went to the Mexican Post in Fairmount Park. They were so nice and accommodating. We brought our own bag of Tostitos to enjoy our own dish of salsa and guacamole (daughter and I are gluten-free) and they were so nice about finding out what we could have and...

ARCHIVED Help With Daycare
luvs2eat replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yikes! Would they let a child w/ a peanut allergy just TAKE something that might lead to anaphylactic shock??? Would a Medic Alert bracelet make them realize the seriousness of your requests?? -
ARCHIVED Wedding Cake Questions
luvs2eat replied to laurelfla's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I doubled and tripled Annalise Roberts's carrot cake for my wedding cake last Sept. I had a two 9" rounds, a 12" round, and a 14" round. I believe the 14" round took 3 batches of batter. I froze them all and frosted them when they were pretty cold. Here's a photo! http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g314/luvs2eat/Sept.webp -
Don't like Oprah... won't watch Oprah... the only time I've written was the first and last time to tell her to please scrape her nose off the ceiling... cause I don't CARE what she thinks!! (bah, humbug... I'm not usually so crabby...)

I feel your pain!!! Sometimes when we're out for dinner, I'll pick up hubby's yummy bread and just SMELL it. I miss bread... yummy homemade, crusty bread w/ butter. If I could have ONE food back, it'd be bread. Bagels might be a close second... I've not tried any of the gluten-free ones yet, and haven't had a bagel in more than 4 years. Most of the time...

ARCHIVED I Am Traveling To Atlantic City Nj
luvs2eat replied to DarleneDrawbridge's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Been to AC many times. Any of the nicer restaurants in the casinos have been very helpful in guiding me thru the menus. Skip the buffets... there's little to eat and TONS of cross contamination. I'm always on the lookout for Chick-fil-a... yummy french fries w/ ranch dipping sauce! -
Been gluten-free for about 4 years... I'll let you know when the weight gain STOPS!! Yikes!!

ARCHIVED Post Diagnosis, Depression
luvs2eat replied to sherylj's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My heart goes out to you, Sheryl. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on the death of your brother. You've been dealt one helluva set of blows. Death is hard and being diagnosed can seem like another death... that's how I felt after I'd been on the diet for a while and felt better physically but had to come to terms w/ the fact that I'd never be able... -
ARCHIVED Is There Something About Gluten Free Bread Etc... ?
luvs2eat replied to buttonburger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't know if it has anything to do w/ anything... but the rice pastas are much higher on the glycemic index that regular pasta. That's important for diabetics, but don't know how it affects us. I do know they recommend foods lower on the glycemic index when you're trying to lose weight. -
I made my own wedding cake w/ Annalise Robert's carrot cake recipe. Took about 8 recipes total to make a 3-tiered cake. We decorated it w/ fresh flowers and it was beautiful and delicious!

I spent several years working at a magazine for ophthalmologists and read tons about it... and know several people who've had it and are THRILLED w/ it... also saw bad results and people who are very UNHAPPY. My only advice is not to go cheap. You totally get what you pay for.
