ARCHIVED Mouth Sores
cap6 replied to Lady Jane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had horrific mouth sores prior to diagnosis, 8 to 10 at a time to the point where I couldn't talk. After a couple of months they lessened. At 21 month I still get one from time to time but they no longer get to the ulcerated point, just uncomfortable. Give it time. -
ARCHIVED Sad For The Child But Not Much I Can Do
cap6 replied to elfie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I understand your frustration completely. My BFF's little 6 year old nephew is the size of a 4 year old and eats next to nothing but chicken nuggets, pretzels, crackers and such. The word veggie doesn't enter into it at all. We spent 10 days during the summer with them this past summer while they were caring for the little guy and I was shocked at the... -
ARCHIVED Help Please - Is This Dh? Nasty Rash On My Lips
cap6 replied to cap6's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thank you for all of your suggestions. Sorry to not acknowledge your responses but I started back to work part time and find myself falling asleep on the couch embarrassingly early! I have not had an allergy testing and believe that is what I am going to push for. I only wear some eye make-up and face cream is gluten-free so it can't be that. I had... -
ARCHIVED Help Please - Is This Dh? Nasty Rash On My Lips
cap6 posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Try to make this short and to the point... The summer before I was diagnosed my lips were a mess, all broken out with a rash that looked just like a little kid that had been licking their chapped lips. It finally just went away. Then about three months after I was diagnosed it came back. My lips become embarrassingly red and inflamed for a couple of weeks... -

ARCHIVED Experience With Nylabone Pet Products?
cap6 replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All four of our dogs are on grain free mainly because we feel it is healthier - dogs don't need grain. I started researching dog foods when my little Cavalier was very allergic to corn. Grain free is healthier and safer for me cause I like doggie kisses. -

ARCHIVED Traveling And Need Help
cap6 replied to Wakingup's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I used to eat the potatoes at Wnedy's but then I started to watch...... Hands touch buns that touch fries that touch tin foil covered potato that put it in the plastic container..... Just seemed like gluten hands on the potato tin foil was cause for CC. -
It takes awhile for everything to fall into place. At first I would eat at friend's home as long as they made sure it was gluten-free, I didn't totally understand cross contamination and all that goes with it. Then I had to back track and make the iron clad rule that I would not eat anything at anyone's home except for what I had made. That was harder for...

ARCHIVED Is Yeast Gluten Free?
cap6 replied to River*'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Costco sells their Kirkland brand broth in bot organic & regular and both are labeled gluten free. Very reasonable price too. -
ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over
cap6 replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not looking forward to the holiday. T'giving will only be the 3 of us but this is the time when my 98% gluten free household decides that they need gluten bread for turkey sandwiches, gluten stuffing, gluten muffins, gluten pie . "It's not Thanksgiving without it". grrr -

ARCHIVED How To Notify Family
cap6 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I told my brother about Celiac, expressing concern and the belief that our mother died as an undiagnosed celiac, his comment was that everyone dies of something.... and he helped himself to another piece of bread. Well, after that comment I was left wondering how much sympathy I could muster up when he felt like his guts were being pulled sideways... -
ARCHIVED Days Like This I Feel Like Giving Up
cap6 replied to rgarton's topic in Super Sensitive People
If others want to find problem with my physical / internal issues than they will have to find time to hear about it. I'd rather spend a 30 minutes cooking meat & veg than dealing with staff that aren't interested in my allergy/issue. Do/read/learn or die. -
ARCHIVED Travelling To Far Away Relative's Homes For Thanksgiving
cap6 replied to BethM55's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am going to buy stock in paper towels. Honestly they are the best to fight cc. I spread them out on a counter so I can prepare food(parchment paper works well too), wipe up counters, dry hands, you name it. It may not be environmentally good but they can be a celiacs best friend. Re: table conversation. I am ok with answering questions and explaining... -
thank you for your feedback. I have been doing the metamucil 2x's a day but will cut back. sigh. So frustrating. Everything is so slow. My SIL (who doesn't have celiac) had a colan blockage and ended with a bag. She has since been able to have that reversed but I have a horror of ending up with a bag!
-
would you consider metamucil too much? I have had a problem with chronic C for 18 months now, ever since I went gluten-free. Have had it on and off all of my life but now it is unrelenting. I drink 64+ oz of water, take probiotics, fresh oj, walk daily, little to no processed foods. The only thing that helps is to drink a herbal laxative tea every other...

I so understand! I ate tons of junky food, little veggies or fruit and still don't like to cook - or know how to very well. My advice? Go slow. Don't pull out the complicated recipes - I stuck to ones with 5 ingredients max. Learn a couple of things and slowly you can add more. I am not quite 2 years gluten-free and learning to branch out with my cooking...

ARCHIVED Why Are People So Insensitive?
cap6 replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It does get better, just takes time. I had regular melt-downs for months. It was close to a year before one day I suddenly realized that I was automatically grabbing something for myself when we headed out - and that I wasn't having a melt-down. One thing that has helped is that I bought several of the plastic divided plates (ziploc has some) and I make... -
we travel from ca to az all the time to visit my dad and have always used ice. Think I will try the ice packs and see if it doesn't work better. Thanks for the suggestion

sorry to not respond. haven't been on the computer! We frequent our local Red Robin and were given the info by the manager and the kitchen manager. She gave us a copy of the email she had received from Udi's outlining the training they will all go through, the special tins, separate storage, knowledge of cross contamination, the works! Udi's is working...

ARCHIVED Support Group In Southern Ca
cap6 replied to dressagegal1986's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
where in So Cal? There is one in Temecula and a new one in Hemet. Hemet meets the 2nd sat of every month at the Red Robin on Florida. 9:30 a.m. Enter on the side door. -
Red Robin will soon be serving Udi buns in all restaurants across the country. Yea!!! Servers & cooks will all be required to go through a training on cross-contamination. Great news

if you are renting an rv you're in business! We travel in our fifth wheel all the time. I would take your own pot and pan. Paper plates/cups work best and are easiest for clean up. Either scrub the food storage cabinet or line it with paper towels. If you will have full hook-ups (sewer) just plan meals/food like you would at home. The refrig will be small...
