  1. Peter is so right. You can give her the info but you can't force her. I have a brother who doesn't care and three friends who I feel certain have celiac or would benefit from the gluten-free life. One friend told me she could never give up her bread and pasta and continues to suffer from chronic D. You can give it out but some people just don't want to...
  2. I have to agree with mammaw on this - sometimes we just don't work. I am all in favor of being as natural as possible, supps, water, fiber, exercise, etc. Sometimes it just doesn't work. I have had two colonoscopies and was told that I have a badly twisted colon and scarring from years of C. After 60 years of chronic constipation I really believe that...
  3. We take a risk whenever we eat out...but...I have been to Applebees twice and sick twice. That's enough for me.
  4. I wish coffee had that affect! Have tried drinking it, not drinking it but makes no difference. I do flax oil caps, magnesium supps, flax seed sprinkled on veggies & salads..... Honestly, I think I have tried it all. Imho it just comes down to finding your own personal "cocktail" so to speak.
  5. I am running out the door but had to take a minute to answer you as I soo understand! I have been gluten-free for 2 years and constipation has been the bane of my existence, and still is. At first, after being gluten-free for about 3 months I had a bout of constipation that four enemas didn't take care of. I understand being told drink more water,...
  6. I have been gluten-free just over 2 years and still suffer from chronic C. It is better...some. Like you I drink 3/4 gallon of water a day, eat lots of fiber, the whole healthy thing. Take probiotics, suplements, molasses (to heal the gut), aloe and then I added a herbal laxative tea, Smooth Move (hate that name!!). Went over it with my dr and she said...
  7. Today I celebrate 2 years since Celiac diagnosis and without the support of family, friends and this board it would have been, well, so much harder than it has been. At two years I can say that I can finally meet Celiac with a sense of confidence and have come to accept it as part of me. That's not to say that at times I don't wish that I was like everyone...
  8. I don't live there or know any drs but when traveling through we found a store called Jakes that is all gluten-free. The best home made french bread Ihave ever had!
  9. lol My flat one has always been a joke in our circle of friends. My daughter once offered to buy me "butt pads" to round me out!
  10. I go when I have an issue and get yearly blood work done. My iron & vit levels are low but other than that there isn't much to be done
  11. Costco has an organic gluten free chicken broth, their Kirkland brand. I've tried it and with some spices added it is pretty good
  12. I was 59 when diagnosed. It has taken almost 2 years to heal and even now there are some bad days but the good far outweigh the bad. The older we are and the sicker we are the longer it can take to heal. It is never to late to start.
  13. My story as well! I was on drugs for years but after being gluten-free for about a year I slowly started weaning off the drugs. It has been 8 months now of weaning and I am almost off of all the drugs and I feel good! How do you explain to someone that one day you wake up and the world just seems a little clearer, a little brighter, happier.
  14. ok, nope not a good idea!
  15. I run both gluten & gluten free through the dishwasher together with no problem, however I use the pots & pans cycle so it has several rinses. Don't know if that is necessary but it makes me feel safer.
  16. If you are celiac you can not eat things from a shared fryer whether it makes you sick or not.
  17. a kiss one the cheek is one thing, passion is off limits unless you brush. I don't like it but if I'm sick it's no fun for either of us. Sounbds to me like a guy worth keeping.
  18. excellent book! I have told a couple members of my family about it, they have a glazed look on their face & change the subject. Celiac or not i think if you were to read that book you would Never touch wheat again.
  19. I think family goofs are pretty normal. We live and breathe it 24/7, they don't. My partner & son are good about 98% of the time but every so often forget and put something down on my counter....
  20. I was referred to a GI dr who tried to get me to take that but after reading about the side effects I decided not to. I do take a herbal laxative tea called Smooth Move and it works well with no side effect, at least for me. Can't go with out it. Wish I didn't need anything but feel like I have no choice. Eat lots of veggies & good stuff but doesn...
  21. I'll join you with the I hate to cook. Have never liked it or been good at it. 20 months later and.... I still don't like it. I bought several of these plastic divided dishes made by ziploc and then make up some meals from my leftovers. That way I always have something to fall back on - or to grab when my partner wants to go out to eat. Also bought...
  22. Can you look at this as a learning experience. We all learn, sometimes the hard way, to never assume something is ok for us. Also in your mom's defense it's a learning time for her too. The first holiday for all of you and it's still a rocky time with learning the ins and outs. As you learn share with her and hopefully by next year you will all be better...
  23. A child that is told "no" when they are still hungry would concern me and sister or not I would report them.
  24. We have two Ruby's near us. One offers gluten-free (udis) bun and the other does not. I haven't had the courage yet to eat at either one although I do know that Udi's requires the restaurant to go through a cc training.
  25. when we switched to grain free our old girl (16) and one of the little ones lost their flaky skin and the big girl stopped with her smelly gas.
