  1. Well, Monday and Tuesday are busy, but perhaps I shall officially measure on Wed. Do you have a scale, or volumne measurements only?
  2. Stymphony, I could like it. Bob's out-- bob is the (invisible) frisbee player who never seems to catch or return it. We think he has issues (shhhh....). my garden was still overly damp to do more than sneak and handful of spinach and a few peas... sigh. My gin and tonic is delish tho.
  3. I also like cooking with lots of carrot, garlic, thyme, sage, and bay. Puree, and use as soup or yummy glop topped iwth non-pork sausage, or add an egg/breadcumbs to make "burgers" or falafel. You could also make lentil soup with 20% split peas or 7-bean soup or something where they are dilute.
  4. Welcome. We probably all talked about it too much in the beginning. Took me about 8 months to shut up/teach everyone who I needed to about it. It's challenging because in the beginning you think about it ALL the time, because food is such an integral part of life. You'll get used to it, and your friends will adapt somewhat if they are nice people. ...
  5. Rosemary Butternut Squash with Garlic Scapes and Caramelized Onion Brown Rice Shredded Spinach The goal was to eat some leftover lentils too, but they didn't really appeal. Perhaps I shall go eat some almonds...
  6. Stephanie. I yield that bit of info with the requirement that it NOT become step-on-me. irg. Can you just imagine the flat "I'm not amused look" that I gave to school photograph photographers for years on end? Psillify it otherwise freely. (Pstephanie? too many syllables, perhaps?) Lacking the wine, I'm going to go make myself a gin and tonic. ...
  7. Is there a y? they have classes in various things. Or the university may have some sort of programming like language classes. can she study choreography or music somewhere? is pilates an option? She may not be into "crafts" but something specific like knitting could appeal. it's trendy these days. A netflix subscription might be worth it. You...
  8. So true. Although, when babysitting kids of people with large energetic dogs, it was always helpful hearing that they'd had the dog out for a 10 mile run! One of these days I'll challenge my keyboard hogging cat with a running dog... She'd have no problem keeping a pup in line.
  9. Tuna, shower, chocolate muffin, and apple.
  10. Soggy gardener is now a soggy runner, who needs a shower followed by tea and cookies! (my secret moniker... hmmm... dare I reveal the prosaic fact that was the e-mail assigned by my undergrad? I can remember it, and it's never taken as a username.) Emily, btw, I love your dog pic. I grew up with standard poodles and am very fond of them.
  11. use more water too. pasta really needs lots to water to move around it.
  12. Wild Planet tuna is vacuum packed w/o anything added (well, they do add salt to some). it's pretty delicious, if pricey compared to the low end chunk light.
  13. Oh, and I found being single to be helpful. Maybe make everyone wash their hands when they come in the house and brush teeth etc. laundry detergent?
  14. Brussels sprouts are awesome, unless they are frozen. (keep in mind, though, that I don't like tomatoes. Which is, according to many people, very weird.) And you can eat actual green beans. Edamame are pretty good, but green beans are just fine. So, I kind of didn't have dinner today, but last night I had an egg and greens sandwich on gluten-free bread...
  15. I have no problem eating grains. Rice and corn are both regular parts of my diet, as is buckwheat and to a lesser extent, quinoa and wild rice. I do eat less than I did pre-diagnosis, but I also eat more potatoes and sweet potatoes. Probably more like 1 cup grain (or 3 tortillas, or 2 muffins) per day instead of 3. Oats (gluten-free), well, I keep trying...
  16. Did you scrub out the silverware drawer/tray, and the drawer with spatulas, measuring cups, etc? New sugar-- most people don't use fresh measuring cups between flour and sugar? Lipstick/chapstick?
  17. Just to clarify, the diet being discussed is not protein-free. It is consuming only amino acids (single molecules of protein) as opposed to the typical chains of amino acids that make up proteins in foods. And, no, I haven't seen any discussion of it. I believe that you might need to work with an RD and/or MD for it. It reminds me of TPN. Update us...
  18. Is there still wine? Or I am too late to the (?) party? It's been raining all day and I'm demoralized/restless as my plans had involved lots of garden time, which did not happen.
  19. Yeah, the average American gets way more protein than necessary. The average vegetarian/vegan malabsorbing celiac patient is unlikely to have an excess of protein actually entering the bloodstream. Low blood protein levels is actually one of the markers of advanced celiac disease, and that is not something your body allows to happen easily. Similarly,...
  20. Activity/dates: kayaking frisbee hiking museums art markets/outdoor antique/street fairs county fairs and festivals bike rides book groups and author talks religious groups (this is going to depend on your religion/non-religion, so fill in your own blank) musical events (bands, dancing, orchestra, etc) parades walks around the city/a particular...
  21. Fried egg sandwich (egg, spinach, pepper, gluten-free brioche bread from glutenus minimus) Cold blanched asparagus one bite each: mint brownie, lemon scone, chocolate muffin, chai muffin, almond toffee cookie (the question was what goes into the freezer and what stays out to eat in the next few days... and yes, I used a knife to slice off bits...although...
  22. So, if I were to start over at 18 or 20: -green chemistry... oh did I love orgo... -food science... see above... Now: - PhD level researcher, examining vegetable intakes and various interventions and approaches (pending acceptance into a program this year, I might just make that happen in 3-5 years) - gardening advocate and community college/community...
  23. Beware of soy sauce in salad dressings! It's pretty common, but on the label. It's also found in a lot of food service salad dressings.
  24. Salad: green leaf lettuce fresh spinach red potatoes, nuked, sliced, and dipped in lemon juice, olive oil, and fresh mint/dill/parsley red kidney beans blanched asparagus shallot pecorino romano Drizzled with the remaining lemon/olive oil, black pepper, and a hint of salt Strawberries (sugared) Homemade "nutella" (dairy free) There. Ate...
  25. I like early morning about 55 F, and mid day to be around 65 or so. Igh, the heat just makes me cranky. Oh, I don't mind cold. I only mind ice.
