  1. As I was somewhat remiss in the vegetable area towards the end of last week, I'm starting this week off on a green note: Fresh Pea and Artichoke Soup Collards, nuked in the microwave Coconut Flour Waffle with Plum Preserves ... rather a lot of snow peas while stringing them for tomorrow ... And perhaps a bit of chocolate or some blueberries in...
  2. chia and pumpkin seeds with dried fruit. and yeah, i got groceries today.
  3. The moosewood cookbook of desserts also has a great easy flourless chocolate cake. It's like six eggs, melted chocolate, vanilla, sugar, and baking powder. Fluffy. Chocolatey. Not at all dry or cumbly.
  4. my father tested negative, as did his mother, but both have clear symptoms. my mother has not yet made an MD appt. No offspring.
  5. No frosting (can't stand cream cheese) and you'd have to sub soy/rice milk and a touch of lemon juice for the buttermilk. But it's a start. The original recipe makes two 6" layers, baked for 40-50 minutes in greased/floured pans. Carrot Cake Mini-Muffins Makes approximately 4 dozen 3 c grated carrot (12 oz or about 4 medium carrots) 1/4 c sugar...
  6. I concur. I needed 5-10 lbs put back on my bones. And now it's here. Now, must portion out the chocolate more carefully and not feel deprived! Also, re cleanse: not such an awesome idea. Some of them are really badly designed, and can put you at significant risk of skewing your electrolytes, leading potential heart issues, kidney problems, etc. If...
  7. Spinach (nuked), with chopped marinated artichoke hearts Wild rice, brown rice, and lentil pilaf Sunbutter Bars with chocolate chips (boy, do I wish I had measured when I made these. darn it.) Blueberries Lavender Mint Lemonade
  8. Hmm... while I don't generally shop in PJ's (unless decidedly sick and easier to shop than coordinate delivery), I am frequently in running/biking clothes. Dressed, but not exactly presentable. I do my laundry in flannel pants often, though. Efficiency, you know . Never mind the spectacle of running down the sidewalk with a head of celery in one...
  9. Their frozen pizza is pretty decent too as frozen gluten-free pizza goes. Glutenous minimus up in Belmont is more delicious in terms of bread and sweets but I think they use egg/dairy/nuts freely. Also not quite as far as one might think.
  10. Two months isn't all that long, and it sounds like you are pushing yourself pretty hard. Anemia alone generally takes a bit of time to recover from, and running tends to exacerbate it. Are you taking good vitamins and supplements? I found magnesium to be generally helpful, and others have to supplement with different nutrients depending on their bloodwork...
  11. Yeah, IBS isn't really one particular problem. Whenever they test a group of people with "IBS" for a particular problem like celiac disease, or fructose intolerance, SIBO, or casein/lactose intolerance, they always get a % of people who are positive for that particular problem. A strict elimination diet might be worth the effort. You start off with a...
  12. So, in terms of oats, nobody recommends them immediately. I would wait at least until you have fully normal (negative) bloodwork. There are different modes of thought about time, ranging from 6 months to 2 years, before trying them. Everyone seems to agree on the not more than 50 g daily rule of thumb. I reacted to them quite obviously the first few...
  13. I am thankful that I am physically, mentally, and financially capable of following the wonderful diet-only treatment for gluten sensitivity. I am thankful that when I have a day of not wanting to get dressed and rained on, I can work from home. I am thankful it is raining in sufficient but not excessive amounts. I am thankful for great family, neighbors...
  14. that's hilarious. I have the psillyest image of a person wandering around trying to figure out where the rinigng is coming from... with the dog sitting satified, smirking over in the corner. Very New Yorker cartoon-esque!
  15. Baked beans/ three bean salad Corn bread lots and lots of lemonade
  16. nachos! red hot blues, salsa, pinto beans, sweet potato, garlic scapes, and ... dum dum dum cheese (not an entirely sensible decision but I wanted it and decided to just go for it. Maybe today is the day when it will digest perfectly.)
  17. Ha... my mom once had a poodle puppy who ate a half bushel basket of jalapeno peppers that had been left on the floor, thinking the dog would not try peppers. (This was also the dog who picked her own raspberries...). Mom said the silly critter didn't even seem phased when she came home. The funniest dog story is actually a different poodle: My...
  18. lol... anybody got any great swim suit advice? including a freaking bikini that both contained said glands while compressing enough to prevent excessive cleavage. i've lost mine. in a studio apartment. gol' darn it to hicknley hockeystick ell.
  19. Okay. Take a deep breath. There's also a thread about the top two tips for the newly diagnosed. Find and read it. Your first concern should be eating gluten free. After you've settled in a little bit, consider nutrition and possibly taking out dairy. I wouldn't worry about it too much during the first couple weeks just because it can be really emotional...
  20. multimineral supplement magnesium supplement strawberries blueberries this odd mixture called chia goodness, that is sort of like trail mix made with with seeds and a little fruit, that i picked up at a marshall's of all places, because it doesn't require heat to "cook" I'm kind subbing it for muesli, which was my old summer breakfast when there was...
  21. sounds like a straight jacket...
  22. Brown rice salad made with: brown rice black olives garlic scapes cabbage baby collard greens peas mint pressed tofu olive oil chevre balsamic and white wine vinegar Weird combo of cleaning out the fridge (tofu, chevre, cabbage, olives) and today's garden haul (peas, collards, scapes, and mint). Quite edible, though. Would leave the chevre...
  23. Or, they might eat the teeny dog! dog-flavored eggs...
  24. Same thing with tofu. If you don't have GI issues with it, it's fine. Buy organic, though, so you get non-GMO. The best way to determine if you have problems with a food is to eliminate it, eat the same "safe" things until you feel fine, and then add it back to your diet in a pure form for three days. Typically, reactions show up within 3 days for most...
