  1. Hi and welcome. Glad to hear you are feeling better (or were feeling better). Gluten-free sandwich? Are you eating a gluten-free bread with a lot of xanthan gum for texture? Some people don't tolerate that stuff very well and get nauseous. I assume morning sickness is not a possibility? Sometimes coincidences happen. I'd suggest you set the gluten...
  2. I agree. You need to find a doctor who is knowledgable about DH and is willing to biopsy before you put yourself through that misery. Alternatively you could just trust yourself. An awful, blistered rash is a really good reason to go gluten-free and not worry about it!
  3. False. Yes it's weird that he won't do bloodwork. I'm not sure I think much of this doctor. Crohn's is much rarer than celiac and IBS is a non-diagnosis. Insist on celiac biopsies during your endoscopy, and he needs to take at least 7 or 8 samples, not the typical 2-4 many doctors use. If he won't biopsy, find another doctor because you don't want...
  4. Non-celiac gluten intolerance is most likely what you have. It's supposed to respond faster than celiac, and it can make people quite ill.
  5. Well, some of us have our judgmental days. Paranoid, no. Seems like a pretty pejorative word to use for ones first post on a new message board. Hang around a while and you will start to understand that a little gluten can hospitalize some people, and that the long-term consequences of celiac disease can be far more serious than doctors know (or care...
  6. LOL! Medical stuff on Google is always fun. I can definitely see the challenge with the candida cleanse breastfeeding, but I bet it's the source of some of your symptoms. Is it safe to eat virgin coconut oil? It's really good stuff for yeast. Super-helpful. Funny that you landed on gluten through the candida instead of the other way around. A lot...
  7. Did you try lactose-free milk? Bloating can be simple lactose intolerance.
  8. Dairy-free is much harder for me and I'm stuck with it for now. Cheese is one of my favorite foods and there is really no substitute. There is also nothing good for my coffee.
  9. Oh, sorry. That wasn't clear at all! What I was TRYING to say is that you need to be gluten-free no matter the biopsy results. Some doctors tell people with antibodies and an OK-looking biopsy to keep eating gluten. Celiac is progressive, so antibodies can show up first and if people with a lot of antibodies keep eating gluten atrophy usually develops. ...
  10. GAPS is driving me crazy. It's HARD. I love the fermented veggies and I'm an expert at bone broth now though. I can tolerate the fat so don't know what to tell you there. I had trouble sticking to the diet when I was traveling over Christmas, and when I am hanging out with friends. It's even harder because I am reacting to dairy so I'm practically on...
  11. Yes, you could be celiac. Since you've only been gluten-free two weeks if I were you I'd start eating it again and get the test scheduled ASAP. If you stay off gluten and the test comes back negative you will always wonder. Look up candida treatment as well. A lot of your symptoms are typical of candida overgrowth. With the recurrent thrush and other...
  12. Well stated! Thanks for clarifying.
  13. I think you need a different allergist. I had a reaction like you describe to shellfish. My Dr. told me to avoid eating it because of the risk of sensitizing worse. Happily, it eventually went away. My gluten symptoms shift and change but I never like them!
  14. She has DQ8, which is one of the celiac genes. Moderate risk means that her copy of DQ8 gives her more risk for celiac than the general population.
  15. Well then, I apologize for my strong post. I have to be honest - you shocked me. I mean REALLY shocked me. Please understand that my post was out of honest concern. I am very happy to hear that you will be staying gluten-free. I can answer some of your questions because I am a scientist and read the celiac literature like a fiend; probably more than...
  16. I am not clinically depressed or horribly tired the way I was, but I am still apathetic/dizzy/foggy. It typically takes 6-8 weeks for a new dose of thyroxine to work, so you were never on it long enough to really stabilize. Also with Hashimoto's your thyroid function can really shift around and even periods of hyperthyroidism are possible. It is conceivable...
  17. It is safe to eat.
  18. I don't think you have to justify gluten-free/casein-free for late onset autism or autoimmunity. People shouldn't be on your back because it's very well established diet and helps a lot of kids, celiac or not. The gliadin IgG seems to be pointing the way as well. Biopsy is a tough call. I think it's OK to follow your heart and see if he gets better on...
  19. How confusing! I wonder if your son had an IgG allergy or severe intolerance rather than celiac? As I'm sure you know, gluten-free/casein-free is great for autistic kids. I would encourage you to take him back to gluten-free/casein-free and see if it helps the OCD and tics even if he is not celiac. It could be that the gluten-caused inflammation has...
  20. If you are in the US, you are legally entitled to see the test results. Don't take no for an answer. Resolution of symptoms on the diet and reappearance of symptoms with a challenge is diagnostic for gluten intolerance. It's the ONLY reliable way to diagnose it too. Anti-gliadin testing is hit and miss. People can get really sick from gluten intolerance...
  21. Hmm. It sounds to me like you still have something going on. Have you been tested for H. pylori? If that was negative I'd be willing to bet you are still eating something you are intolerant to. I'm eating GAPS (food list is close to paleo) and finding tomatoes are not agreeing with me. Since you're already paleo you might look at GAPS. It's a starch/sugar...
  22. It can take as long as a week depending on the lab. The next step if she has celiac is sometimes an endoscopy, sometimes a trial of the diet without. It depends on your pediatrician. Don't panic about the diet. I couldn't eat wheat as a toddler. Rice Chex are good for snacking, or Honey Rice Puffins. Glutino makes great gluten-free pretzels, though...
  23. Iodine is so confusing in thyroid disease. Half the stuff I read say to avoid it; the other half says it helps. Even more confusing, fluoride in water fights for iodine uptake so you might need more iodine in a fluoridated water area.
  24. You are new here and I can only assume you have no idea how many miscarriages undiagnosed celiac women have experienced. I was and still am shocked that someone could have a celiac diagnosis - not even gluten intolerant but celiac - and deliberately eat wheat during a pregnancy. I'm not the one hating here; JulieAC is the one who is risking a pregnancy...
  25. Hi, Debbie. Is there anything on the label other than rice? If the label just says "rice" I would eat it. I've never used a shopping list for rice because plain old rice with nothing else on the label is safe.
