  1. This is my favorite green bean potato salad. It's good warm or cold: Open Original Shared Link I also have put green beans in soups or stews before like vegetable beef soup.
  2. I had joint and muscle pain that lessened for me after about 6 months-8 months. However I also had to cut out soy to see a big improvement in my joint pain. I agree with the others about doing some less intense excercise for a while. Swimming is a really great low impact excercise if you have access to a local pool. They often offer water aquatics classes...
  3. Thank you Sandsurfgirl. BTW, the dream career of mine that I won't be able to do involves working with a non-profit organization that requires excellent health in order to serve. It's not the military, but it's a very similar situation. I don't even have a doctor's diagnosis, so technically I could lie in order to serve with this organization, but the result...
  4. Way to go!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your story Raven. I still have a lot of memory issues myself. I was just getting depressed about this today that my memory is not quite good enough to go back to school yet. I also have some motility issues, but not nearly as bad as yours were/are. Your post gives me so much hope that I might continue to...
  5. Thanks, I haven't found one yet, but I'm looking. I've done hotels successfully by just bringing my own food and only eating banana and hard boiled eggs from the breakfast buffet. I was hoping there were some B&B's out there that know how to handle gluten free food requests, but cc is a very real concern for me. I'm looking at romantic weekend packages...
  6. Has anyone successfully stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and gotten safe food? I know most places will have fruit, but I hate to spend the whole weekend eating bananas for breakfast. I was wondering if there are any places that accomodate gluten free and other food intolerances. What can they make that's safe? Any websites to explore with gluten free B&...
  7. Wow, the number of people on this board avoiding soy is much higher than I was expecting. I avoid soy because hypothyroidism runs in my family and I have noticed when I eat soy my joints hurt more and I feel run down. Also soybean oil gives me migrains sometimes. I only cheat with soy lecthin in chocolate and when I go out to a restaurant. I don't worry...
  8. My apologies. The gluten-free multi-purpse flour has brown rice listed as the last ingredient. The gluten-free bread mix does not have brown rice, however. Here I found the ingredients listed for the bread mix: Open Original Shared Link
  9. That's the only place I have seen it so far. I hope you can find it at yours. My Kroger has a "diet food" aisle withe some gluten-free foods, but the gluten-free King Arthur's flour is not in that aisle, it's in the baking aisle right in the middle of the regular bags of flour. I always have to hold my breath when I take it off the shelf and then I wipe...
  10. I used their bread mix yesterday to make hamburger buns. I no longer have the box but it listed rice flour, tapioca stach and potato starch as well as some "conditioners". I'm fairly certain it doesn't have brown rice, just plain rice flour. I remember because I looked at the box to see if I could make a similar mix for less by buying the separate flours...
  11. I don't know how it works with autism, but many of us with gluten intolerance find we get more sensitive to gluten after we go gluten free. I never had any bad gastro problem before I went gluten free, my symptoms were mostly neurological. Now if I get gluten accidently I have BOTH gastro-intestial symptoms and neuro symptoms. So if the purple eyes and...
  12. Tonight I'm making turkey burgers and oven fries. I made my own gluten-free buns for the first time using King Arthur gluten-free bread mix. They look more like biscuits, but I think they will be yummy.
  13. You can't "kill" the gluten like you can kill germs. Since it's a protein you would have to burn it to break down the protein (which obviously doesn't work with a countertop, but I have heard you can get rid of gluten in a cast iron pan by heating it at really high temps). Just do your best to wipe it away and don't use towels or sponges that get reused...
  14. With Betty Crocker adding soy flour to their gluten-free mixes I was just curious how many celiacs/gluten intolerant people here also have to avoid soybeans in any form. It's a pretty straight forward poll, but just to clarify choose yes if you avoid any gluten-free type of soy, even if you don't avoid soybean oil or soy lectin. Choose no if you use gluten...
  15. There is not a lot of research on this, but I will tell you my experience. When I tried to conceive I had 3 miscarriages in less than 3 years. Now I am gluten free and I have not been able to get pregnant, so perhaps my window of time has passed. Other people here have stories of miscarriages and really difficult pregnancies while on gluten, so I believe...
  16. Thank you! I was wondering if they had a specific one for the gluten-free foods, but that will work.
  17. Can you share the e-mail address you used? I plan to write to them as well.
  18. I'm sorry if I came across as criticizing you, personally. That was not my intent, but you posted asking for advice and I'm entitled to my opinion. I really hope you are not going into the military, I hope it's something much more serious than that that would cause you to risk your health. Sometimes you just can't do what you want to do in life. I had...
  19. I'm fairly certain it is safe. I have seen people on here reccommend using it when baking with old cookie sheets.
  20. I'm going to try to post a photo of the ones I have. Bare with me, I've never done photos on here. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Devil's food^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Yellow cake^^^^^^
  21. I have both the yellow and the devils food cake mixes here and they do not have soy listed in the ingredients. They do have a disclaimer that says "may contain soy ingredients". These were boxes that I bought on closeout sale at Food Lion. I wonder if they really have soy flour and they closed them out because the "may contain soy" was a misprint? Argh...
  22. I'm super sensitive to cc, but I do not worry about my countertop cleaners. Then again I do not prepare food directly on my countertops. I alway use a cutting board or plate.
  23. I'm coming up on 1 year gluten free. The food is pretty easy to figure out and do. Other people and life situations are the only somewhat hard thing, but I think I've learned how to be proactive enough that I don't have many problems come up anymore. I even went to my first holiday party recently where I couldn't eat a single thing. I kept a drink in...
  24. I know it's not the same as being able to just pick up take out from Panda Express, but this recipe is awesome: Open Original Shared Link She also has lemon chicken and sesame chicken recipes, but the orange chicken is my favorite.
