  1. Doesn't sound weird to me at all! Bacon has an affinity for sweet things such as caramel, ice cream, brownies, maple syrup, jam... It's that salty sweet thing that has people drooling!
  2. It's excellent. I do a lot of Korean and Thai cooking as great as restaurant food. Heck - a lot of other ethnicities as well. Yum!
  3. If you really like fresh ginger and scallions, try this recipe from David Chang (Momofuku fame): http://stickygooeycreamychewy.com/2010/01/29/ginger-scallion-noodles-from-momofuku/ Of course I use rice noodles instead of ramen.
  4. Grilled marinated Korean flank steak, daikon, carrot, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and rice vermicelli in rice wraps with Korean sauce. Steamed broccoli. Quick cucumber pickles.
  5. Mmmmm...I love fresh ginger. Have you tried pickling it? It tastes far better than commercial pickled ginger.
  6. Don't forget the can openers! Depending on the brand, electric ones especially can harbour all sorts of icky things, sometimes potentially gluten that can get into whatever is being opened. Unless, of course, everyone but me has perfectly clean kitchens and appliances at all times! Like many others, I replaced things with scratched surfaces (i...
  7. British! Bangers (Cumberland sausages) braised in stock Mash (Potato puree) Caramelized Onion Red Wine Pan Sauce Mushy Minted Peas
  8. Roasted Mushroom Soup with Fricos Arugula Salad with Pear and Pomegranate Vinaigrette
  9. Tonight I am making: Parmesan Cod Cakes and Caper Tartar Sauce with Tarragon Lime and Sea Salt Sweet Potato Fries Roasted Kale Chips Crisp Japanese Jicama Slaw
  10. Thanks! About 100% of the time I feel baseball batted but thankfully some days are better than others. It hurts so badly to lie down and sit or make any contact with me body anywhere so I find walking and standing (on gel mats) far better until my muscle spasms take over forcing me to lie down. Anyway, at the moment my entire body is so tender that to...
  11. Better than I was feeling! Today in addition to meals I made homemade ketchup and kale chips. Delicious. Thanks for remembering.
  12. Roasted Mushroom and Sunchoke Soup with Chive Oil Roasted Asparagus with Prosciutto, Lemon Vinaigrette and Crispy Capers Strawberries with Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale de Modena - it is very thick and syrupy
  13. Prickly, I'm sorry if I came across as snarky with my soda comment - I didn't mean to! Anyway, the Dr. Pepper with beef must have tasted great.
  14. Cooking protein in soda is not unusual - it has been done for many years so you are not odd or strange or any such thing.
  15. As it is still winter here, I thought I'd make Chicken and Dumplings tonight. I have a recipe for light fluffy dumplings. We will have a rocket salad with tangerine vinaigrette, shaved local pecorino and toasted pine nuts.
  16. The shanks did not require anything tomato but the sauce did have a touch of bittersweet chocolate!
  17. You are too sweet. My herniated discs cause all sorts of pain and sometimes it gets so bad that I cannot even cook which means it is B A D. I often feel as though someone took a baseball bad and hit me repeatedly over and over and over. From my neck to my knees. It is brutal. Very hard to sit and lie down but also to stand. Pretty tricky. However...
  18. It IS doable and very interesting to make, not to mention wonderfully delicious. Supper sounds great at your house! I am unfortunately in too much pain to cook this evening which saddens me. My husband will have to throw something quick together. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
  19. Friday night: Braised Lamb Shanks with Zingara Sauce and Pan Jus Apple and Smoked Bacon Risotto Roasted Cauliflower Chocolate Pots de Creme with Torched Italian Meringue
  20. Lucia, you will be proud of me! Vegetarian. Singapore Carrot Cake with Steamed Daikon Cake - I am making my own kecap manis. Carrot cakes do not contain carrots nor are they cakes as in sweet cakes. They are dense daikon cakes you make then steam then sit overnight then fry. Then you make the other portion of the recipe which contains a host of other...
  21. I like your thought process! Hmmm...what will I reward myself with tomorrow when I leftovers? I've always loved leftovers but now even more so that we are entitled to rewards.
  22. As we STILL have lamb leftover I am making Shepherd's Pie which traditionally is made with lamb. I will mince it up and make a lovely old cheddar potato "crust". Winter greens (frisee, mustard, kale) with a simple classic red wine vinaigrette and shaved Parmesan.
  23. We are having leftover roast lamb shoulder from last night. It is so succulent and tender like butter. And the shoulder is one of the toughest cuts. I am making a caper lemon sauce for it. We will have it with roasted carrot and potato puree and white wine braised Brussels sprouts.
  24. I have tried the epidurals and they have not helped unfortunately. I think it is partially because my pain is so widespread - my shoulders all the way down my calves. There are so many trigger points that it's not even funny. The pain is so bad I must get up to walk around at night because lying down can be dreadful. I'm glad that they help you, though...
  25. Wouldn't that be something? Maybe they'll have to come to our house for peka one day...
