  1. I know. These pork shanks were calling to me - I never see them. So, when I did, they jumped right into my grocery cart! It was astonishing to see. And then the buttertarts - well, I'm going to housesit in the country for a week so thought I'd make my darling sweetheart something to remember me by. And Day 1 starts tomorrow. I absolutely MUST lost...
  2. This is too cute. Your creativity with these smileys is awesome. I must really get me some of those thingers! Thanks for making me laugh out loud!
  3. I realize this post is old but I contacted Advil yesterday about their products and they are ALL gluten free in Canada. I did check the US Advil website (U.S.) as well and Advil is gluten free except for liqui-gels and Advil migraine. However, I did not contact them directly.
  4. Strawberry, black cherry, mango and fresh mint smoothie.
  5. Mixed greens and jicama salad with toasted almonds, pumpkin seeds and Sherry vinaigrette. Oh, and orange supremes on top.
  6. Irish, so happy for you about the oats! There just is no replacement. Quinoa flakes are alright but they are just not the same. Tonight: Pork Shanks Braised in White Wine with an Apple Cider Vanilla Reduction Pommes Anna Roast Baby Purple and Yellow Carrots with Miso Glaze Homemade Pecan Buttertarts
  7. I'm typing this from the aircraft - I'm almost there! Shucks...it was all a dream. Today was the same as yesterday at -34C and windchill making it -45C. Unless you have not been in -30 temps you have not experienced cold. Love the sounds of 80F and no humidity and "...darn nice kitchen". Does it have a KA stand mixer? A Vitamix?
  8. Who's up for offering me a temporary home until this winter is over in April? I'll cook! Supposed to get even colder tonight. At these temps it is dangerous to even walk half a block to get the mail! Blech. Am willing to fly but I dislike heat and humidity. Somewhere above freezing would be awesome! Takers?????
  9. Who wants to house swap? It is minus 30 but windchill is minus 45. And more snow. Did I say MINUS???
  10. Italian Pork Ragu (slowly simmered forever in red wine et. al.) Homemade Tagliatelle Roasted Shaved Brussels Sprouts with Pine Nut Butter And I am making some fudgey brownies for a neighbour who cleared out the driveway for us. Must save one for my sweet husband!
  11. You do not need to make them Chinese. Many (including myself) prefer spring rolls in the Vietnamese, Malaysian or Thai way. You need not make a sweet and sour sauce at all - there are thousands upon thousands of other sauces. As mentioned above, you can add all sorts of things by adding any proteins/fillings you want from shrimp to chicken to pork to beef...
  12. Weird. I did not intend for this to appear in the square!
  13. Broccoli rabe most likely, if it is mostly stems. Making some Portuguese Pulled Pork, creamy coleslaw and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Will have leftover chocolate pots de creme with toasted hazelnuts and cacao nibs.
  14. Tonight I made Creamy Shrimp and Grits with large stone ground grits. Sauce included thingers such as white wine, garlic, lemon juice, tomatoes, chipotles en adobo... For something green and relatively healthy (!) I added peas. And for dessert I made Chocolate Pots de Creme for my dear husband. Talk about decadent and truffle-like. Plus we had more...
  15. Made wondrous BACON maple roasted chickpeas. Oh, WOW! Chickpeas are crunchy, the bacon is crunchy and they are both gooey with maple syrup. HELP ME! It is too good, if you know what I mean.
  16. For garlic, yes. I infuse the oil with thyme, rosemary and garlic. But for onion confit first I caramelize the onions.
  17. Parchment paper is far easier to work with than plastic wrap. I have a few killer pizza dough recipes that you roll out (i.e. not sticky) if you are interested. One of the things I missed most with baking was rolling out dough rather than plop it or pour it into a pan. I'm a scratch baker but am curious to see how the Pamela's blend worked out. What is...
  18. Sorta mish mash of yummies. Not the healthiest meal I have ever had... Homemade Gingerale - it is sooooooooooooooooooo good! I made some maple bacon chickpea candy that is surreal. Ooey gooey and wonderful. Deviled Eggs with bourbon and horseradish cream Homemade crackers with marinated feta (with sundried tomatoes, lemon zest, etc.)
  19. Onion confit is very simple to make as is garlic confit.
  20. Oh, that's awful. Sorry you are so sick. I did have one can of cocoa on my shelf that contained wheat. Out it went. Do you have this type of reaction with baking chocolate with a high cacao content? I'm assuming so as it contains caffeine, too. I don't bake with mixes so am unfamiliar with their contents but perhaps some contain chocolate flavouring...
  21. Oh, you poor dear girl. Isn't it funny how we try to remain optimistic and hopeful that something will work? Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes it may later on. Be well soon, K? We all need you!
  22. Love seeing all this lovin' here! Tonight we're having part of Fish and Chips - I am making a yummy crispy chip batter (not frying but baking) and homemade tartar sauce with scores of capers. Oh, and mushy peas. But no fries or onion rings. Instead we are having a simple classic Caesar salad (with homemade dressing of course). So, I suppose we...
  23. Good evening, all! Count me as present. I posted the following twice but as it did not show up, am attempting again. I made: Velveted Kung Pao Chicken Mung Bean Noodles Strawberries with thick, syrupy, authentic aceto balsamico tradizionale de Modena We were going to have a lovely spicy Japanese cucumber salad but we got sorta busy.
  24. How very interesting you posted this today as I have been wondering lately why my muscle tenderness, leg cramps, insomnia, etc. have been worse. Just started to get cramping in my arms, too, which has not happened before. Just read the lists of symptoms and I have several that make a lot of sense. Could very well be a calcium deficiency as I am lactose...
