  1. Maybe try another brand or kind of pasta. I make my own but also have found that some brands stick worse than others. One pasta brand I buy is made from a combination of brown rice and millet; another sweet potato and buckwheat. They do not stick at all. Homemade does not stick in my experience. It cooks in about 1 to 2 minutes and does not have time...
  2. Sorry, but that sorta made me giggle. Only for a few seconds, though, as I did not want to get too carried away..
  3. Snowed again today. Big, heavy detestable flakes. At least there are no mosquitoes!
  4. Homemade is vastly tastier! That is why I make it.
  5. Thank God. Your relief must be unimaginable. I am rejoicing with you.
  6. Went to BP once for pizza with my gluten intolerant sister for pizza. That was the last time, I am afraid. It is not worth getting sick over.
  7. Now to us those temps would be downright sweltering!
  8. I do make cinnamon rolls and breads and pizza crusts you can shape but gluten must be present for spring and elasticity, unfortunately. The dough texture will never be the same.
  9. Mixed baby greens with blood orange vinaigrette, toasted almonds and pepitas.
  10. Mushroom Risotto (dried chanterelles, porcini, wood mushrooms that were reconstituted with Sherry) with mushroom powder (I also pulverized dried porcinis in my spice grinder to make it extra mushroom-y) PLUS used mushroom stock Juniper, Bay and Vanilla Poached Shrimp over Beet Coulis (with lemon juice, horseradish, etc.), scattered with baby arugula and...
  11. Oh, Irish. You are making me look so good! But I DO love to cook and weave magic, my pretty.
  12. I love Za'atar, Dukkah, etc. Middle Eastern cooking is one of my favourites - I have tons of superb books and I do a lot of experimenting.
  13. Someone finally picked up on that! I was wondering when someone would figure it out. Leave it to Addy.
  14. So, if I see a group of starved-looking greedy celiacs at the airport with ski masks and nylon stockings pulled tightly over their faces I will know what to expect. Don't forget the black sedan getaway vehicle. And don't forget to look inconspicious! If not, I just might figure it out!
  15. GFinDC, what lovely descriptions! I can so envision Spring. The wind is howling, the snow is flying, my patience is waning.
  16. Thanks for reminding us there is always hope.
  17. Oh, that is so awful. And you are far too young for this, too! You know your pain is bad when you cannot even become immersed in a book by your favourite author. Sometimes all I can do is lie there and wait. Too painful to think or do anything. So sad you are going through this. I so used to take health for granted until this mess happened to me five...
  18. Yes - at least three feet in our yard. The snow is piled far over my head in many places (from shoveling driveways, etc.). It is thigh high in the park and I am SICK AND TIRED OF IT. This is later than normal. Usually about now most of the snow is gone but we keep getting more and more. It is in the forecast for tonight yet again. BLECH!
  19. Good point about 5-htp. See? I'm so tired my mind is barely functioning today.
  20. I've been busy with other stuff lately (i.e. my gorgeous rescue dog!!) and have not read many posts here lately. Why the heck are you having pain and cramps? Neuropathy, joint, muscular? I did not realize that was happening to you. Chronic pain is my reality, too, and very difficult to deal with. That coupled with insomnia can be next to impossible to...
  21. This was exactly me. I could eat all the gluten I wanted without feeling ill whatsoever. But cheese, milk and ice cream? No way! I was able to ingest some cheese for awhile but am back to eating lactose-free cheese and aged cheese very occasionally. Lactose gave me greater problems than gluten until a couple of months ago when I finally had a gluten...
  22. My withdrawal lasted about two weeks. When you think about it, two weeks in one's lifetime really is a blip. You will feel better soon. My husband went mostly gluten free with me. When I say mostly I mean in our home he is gluten free. He does have pizza or whatever at work from time to time. He had no withdrawal at all but as far as we know he...
  23. I have costochondritis and it is NOT funny. Started when I had severe bronchitis which then became pneumonia. The intense and frequent coughing literally ripped muscles from my bones. That happened 2.5 years ago and I have had the pain ever since. Would love for it to disappear but so far has not on my gluten free diet. Makes it very difficult to sleep...
  24. Having had severe insomnia most of my life, I really feel for you. It is terrible. Last night was night 7 with very little sleep and I am nearly running on empty. Sleep studies? I couldn't even fall asleep so there was not much to test. I've done all the stuff I am supposed to do and nothing helps me whatsoever. I do take Zopiclone once a week when...
