  1. This is a bit late, but in case you are interested, the attached is a recipe for homemade marshmallow peeps. Though I have not made this particular recipe, I have made homemade marshmallows and they are divine. No need to buy them again. Open Original Shared Link
  2. Man, I know what you mean! When I heard that the going rate here was $25 and sometimes $30 per hour for one person I cringed. No degree required. My girl has only two years of experience. One of the reasons for my initial post was because it just doesn't seem to make sense. Sure, the work isn't easy, but they make more than my sister who is a specialized...
  3. Great. I love deals! I certainly do not wish to take advantage of her, either. I noticed a couple of minor spills on the kitchen tiles yesterday but I'm able to leave it now! She told me she hates it when people clean before she goes to their homes.
  4. It's excellent. I do a lot of Korean and Thai cooking as great as restaurant food. Heck - a lot of other ethnicities as well. Yum!
  5. If you really like fresh ginger and scallions, try this recipe from David Chang (Momofuku fame): http://stickygooeycreamychewy.com/2010/01/29/ginger-scallion-noodles-from-momofuku/ Of course I use rice noodles instead of ramen.
  6. Grilled marinated Korean flank steak, daikon, carrot, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and rice vermicelli in rice wraps with Korean sauce. Steamed broccoli. Quick cucumber pickles.
  7. I use Oral B fluoride rinse recommended by my dental hygienist as it is gluten free. My dental office cannot be 100% certain that their products are gluten free and do not want to use them on me (as per my last visit, anyway). You can get the rinse in daily or weekly formulations. Nice between cleanings. In fact, I only need to go once a year now!
  8. Same here. They are in two different worlds! If you can find it, grab it.
  9. Prices generally are quite a bit higher here (including groceries and such, too). Makes me mad that I have to pay US prices for my Amazon books. Anyway, I found someone who gave me a flat rate of $60. It took three hours to clean our house (and she said it was cleaner than most already) top and bottom. She is adding in a spring cleaning chores...
  10. Potato Gnocchi with Rose Sauce Frozen Grapes
  11. I NEED that bread! That texture looks so wonderful.
  12. And a third vote for keeping the pasta and sauce separate. You know what? You can get quinoa, millet, buckwheat and sweet potato pasta that tastes miles better than rice or corn pastas in my opinion. But of course that is just a matter of taste. Just know there are lots of options available! Or, if you want to make your own pasta, I have a killer recipe...
  13. When I went through gluten withdrawal, I was very nauseous and had headaches for about 2-3 weeks but it was temporary. And yes, there is a grieving process. It took me several months before I could walk past a bakery without feeling sorry for myself. Now a year later things are far different. It is so part of my daily life that I really do not think about...
  14. Mmmmm...I love fresh ginger. Have you tried pickling it? It tastes far better than commercial pickled ginger.
  15. Don't forget the can openers! Depending on the brand, electric ones especially can harbour all sorts of icky things, sometimes potentially gluten that can get into whatever is being opened. Unless, of course, everyone but me has perfectly clean kitchens and appliances at all times! Like many others, I replaced things with scratched surfaces (i...
  16. Too funny! Professionals are just as imperfect as anyone else, thankfully. Maybe those days were celiac or fibro fog days! Sylvia - haven't "seen" you lately. Hope you're doing well!
  17. British! Bangers (Cumberland sausages) braised in stock Mash (Potato puree) Caramelized Onion Red Wine Pan Sauce Mushy Minted Peas
  18. What Lisa says is so true. You may just need to get out to purchase some interesting ingredients you may not have used before such as lemongrass and plan a meal around it. Sorry that I cannot relate - I have the opposite problem. I love food TOO much! Cooking is satisfying and gratifying. Not only that, you know precisely what goes into everything...
  19. Wild blueberry smoothie. Homemade AWESOME chewy chocolate chip cookie.
  20. I am more passionate about food and cooking than 99% of anyone I know. What helped me initially (and it DOES get better!) was envisioning my blunted villi and the thought of potential related health issues in the future. If you are a visual person perhaps this will help! Instead I did serious gluten-free baking. And eating the baking. It...
  21. Roasted Mushroom Soup with Fricos Arugula Salad with Pear and Pomegranate Vinaigrette
  22. Local pecorino cheese, mushroom, poblano, chive and ham omelettes that my husband made.
  23. I recently gained 12 lb and together with my dietitian realized I was eating too much fruit each day. Plus I had re-introduced cheese into my diet. After eating less fruit (fructose) and replacing it with vegetables and cutting out most of the cheese I dropped the 12 lb fairly quickly, thankfully. I still have weight to lose from a few years ago but am...
  24. That is awesome news! I love, love, love sweet potatoes and am always cooking with them. Thanks for sharing as this is an encouragement to others.
  25. Funny! I thought I was the only nerd who does such experiments. Whew! We're in this thing together! I can just imagine the bread and becoming sort of golden after half an hour. That's priceless! Only those with celiac would understand this sort of thing. My husband thinks it's quite funny.
