No recs on specific restaurants but when I travel in Europe I find restaurant cards to be helpful, especially in non-touristy areas.

It doesn't really cause it but eating it can contribute to it. The surgeon who did mom's awful eye injections told her so am unsure of where his information came from but it is also in this article. For some reason I am not allowed to copy and paste the quote but scroll down to The Bad - it is under there. There would be millions of people who only consume...

I make meatloaf regularly and use dried bread crumbs which have been soaked in milk. The crumbs and milk are both added. I also grate carrot and onion and add minced red and poblano pepper that have been sauteed. Use the onion and carrot juice for the liquid. Thyme is, unfortunately, the ultimate for seasoning meatloaf but you can certainly leave...

Great! I look forward to them not so much as for cereal but as a crispy coating on things. -

Eggs Benedict but I make hollandaise with far less butter than what is traditional. Oven-roasted radishes. -

The title of the post says it all. I would assume that would mean they are available in other prairie provinces as well. -
ARCHIVED Roasted Broccoli
love2travel replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We roast pretty much every vegetable including broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, parsnips, turnips, green beans, leeks, fennel, kale - you name it, we roast it. Roasting brings out the natural sweetness of the vegetables, especially if they are allowed to caramelize a little in the pan. In fact, we never boil vegetables unless it is required for a certain... -
Amen. Margarine is about as horrid as you can get. I have not had margarine in my house for years for two reasons - it tastes like plastic and to prevent macular degeneration. My mom has it and it is a dreadful disease. Margarine is thought to contribute to it.

The town where I live has no options so when I want to eat out we drive 3 hours to the city. Thank goodness I love to cook! Anyway, perhaps you must look into the higher-end options that are not chains. Most high-end places are naturally gluten free, anyway, and their chefs are trained properly. They often do not have deep fryers and they do not...

ARCHIVED Ttg Down!
love2travel replied to WinterSong's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congratulations! You are on the right path. Everyone heals at different rates but it is encouraging that your numbers are steadily going down. The numbers 300+ to 21 - just think about the vast difference. Mine went down from off the charts to negative in six months so I was very lucky. But there are others who take ages. There is no average with us... -

I will be having leftovers from last night. Now I am planning a WOW dinner for Friday night as it is my birthday and I would rather cook than eat out. Not that there are any safe places for me to eat at within a 3-hour radius, anyway, but still. The protein will be rack of lamb. We just got half a local free range spring lamb done up for us so we have... -

ARCHIVED Do gluten-free Flours Really Need To Be Refrigerated?
love2travel replied to Mrs. M.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My 20+ kinds of flours are stored in the freezer (except white rice flour) and my starches are stored in my pantry (i.e. tapioca, corn, arrowroot, potato, etc.). Some of my flours are used less frequently, especially chestnut and sweet potato flours. So, into the freezer they go! I, too, have read countless articles on storage and agree with Skylark that... -
Margarine is yucky anyway! I have not had margarine in the house for years for a couple of reasons. One, I dislike the flavour. Two, my mother has macular degeneration and margarine can contribute to it. As that disease is genetic I am being pretty darned careful. To be honest I do not know enough about it as far as its effects on those with celiac. ...

love2travel replied to kb27's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thankfully most cakes are very simple to convert to gluten free so if you have an all purpose gluten-free mix you can use that. However, this recipe is very good, as are all the other GFG recipes I've made. Open Original Shared Link -

Still out of town but am having homemade pizza made earlier. It has pepperoni and lots and lots of aged cheeses. And some raw cucumber to satisfy my healthy side. Tomorrow am going home to cook and can't wait. We're having Thai. -

IH, I had completely forgotten about your previous post. Man, I must be getting old. I read through the reviews on Elana's recipe - some good, some were disappointed after making them. If anyone makes this recipe, just read through what others have said for tips and ideas and things to avoid. Not to discredit her at all - just a heads up to read... -
We Need To Start A Thread On Stupid Stuff Doctors Say!
love2travel replied to mushroom's topic in Doctors
U N B E L I E V A B L E ! ! ! This makes me speechless and furious and so very sad for you. When I see my doctor I take a whole list with me and we go through it carefully. He always asks, "Is there anything else you'd like to know or have questions about?" He really takes his time. In a way it can be annoying because that means very long waits... -

I SHOULD be avoiding sugar and am trying, actually, but once in awhile I make myself some yummy treats. Making caramel is actually fun but if you are not extremely careful, one second it will be golden brown and the next nearly black so you must remove it from the heat at the perfect time. So far I've never had to deal with it burned, thankfully. Your... -

I'm back out in the country house/dogsitting so this morning was simple. Rather than use the toaster here I sort of grilled my bread in my own pan and simply had it with some lovely apple jelly. And something unusual for me - a tiny bit of dark chocolate. Generally chocolate does not appeal to me but this morning it did. My morning snack will be an unsweetened...
