ARCHIVED Is Toasting Bread Time Consuming?
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It works well for everything else. Udi's toasted in just a few minutes (didn't time it but not long). It's the bread! -

ARCHIVED Is Toasting Bread Time Consuming?
love2travel posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I picked up a bakery loaf when I was last in the city as it looked good for a gluten-free loaf. So, the next day I put it (thawed) into my toaster oven and waited. And waited. And waited some more. My toaster oven has a timer so I timed how long it took. At 12 minutes the outside started to brown. After more waiting, while my hollandaise was congealing... -
ARCHIVED Udi's Hamburger Buns
love2travel replied to Ginsou's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have only purchased the buns once and that was in about July so cannot compare. However, I have purchased Udi's bread and have found the slice to be even smaller than they were. They look like they would perhaps feed a gnat. And the holes! My loaf had huge holes all the way through the bread like a tunnel. All that for $7.49. I still do have a loaf... -

Where on earth is a blushing smiley? Gemini and I certainly are good; in fact, great! As you know, I get very carried away with things I believe in and am excited about. I just got too excited and need to tone it down. Frankly it is a positive thing that this was brought up as it leads to greater understanding about others and myself. As I told Gemini... -

Sorry, Gemini! I just intended to bring it up as I have seen some pretty icky blocks. But I agree that those with 40 years of cooking experience can have far more to offer than those taking knife skill classes. My bvackground is human resources. I often used to hire those with experience over those with a degree so I truly understand what you are saying... -

Sorry I was so unclear. I meant storing knives in a WOODEN block harbour bacteria. Trust me - I've taken and now teach knife handling techniques and it is amazing what can be stuck in blocks. See the following explanation: Open Original Shared Link Perhaps it is more reasonable to have a magnetic strip for those who use their good knives a lot... -
I love your gushing - it shows you are enthusiastic and passionate! Nothing wrong with that. Having been to Rome four or five times I would never, ever tire of it. How long will you be there? I cannot wait to hear about what you saw, experienced, ate, smelled and heard. Lots of details!! I do have some resto info saved somewhere. I will...

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
gluten-free Chocolate Stars cereal (hey - it is for kids but the best gluten-free cereal I have ever had - stays crunchy in milk and is not hollow and light - has substance!) Blueberry Pomogranate unsweetened fruit cup Now this sounds very odd but also fresh radishes as a snack. I just love them. Better than snacking on chips or crackers! -

Today is cooking and baking day! Well, most days are. I am making: Lemon Parlsey Pasta with Lemon Basil Pesto Sauce Winter Greens with Toasted Almonds, Shaved Rustico Pecorino and Lemon Vinaigrette For my husband's upcoming potluck at work I am making: Ultimate Chocolate Marquise - it is absoluely amazing. It is sort of like frozen mousse... -

No problem. It works so well - the strip is so strong that there is not a chance of even my heftiest cleaver and chef knives going anywhere. I love how it keeps the knives out of the way and off the counter. -

Thanks! I get rather passionate when discussing food. I've had fresh squid ink (and cuttlefish ink) pasta and risotto several times in Italy and Croatia and have fallen in love. Whenever I see it on a menu I order it. I did see a container of it at a specialty food store awhile ago and debated picking it up. Should have. It is messy to work with but... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been Glutened From gluten-free Chicken Broth?
love2travel replied to shayre's topic in Super Sensitive People
Homemade stock of any kind is always better. It is delicious and keeps (and freezes) well. You can easily make your own beef stock and mushroom or vegetable broth. You can simmer it for a couple of hours while you are doing something else so the time it takes is inactive time once everything is in the pot. Stock - you use bones; broth - you do not. Browning... -

Just a quick idea - we put our knives on a magnetic strip as there is no way of harbouring creepy crawlies. Not only that but if the knives are tight, the wood can dull the knives. I'm a big knife person (aka geek) with expensive knives I am particularly proud of. Magnetic strips are awesome! Sorry - no offense intended to those with blocks. I had a... -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
love2travel replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow. For any new people out there who might think this is OK if you have celiac, it is not! Just think of the internal damage that you could be doing. Perhaps irrepairable, long-term autoimmune diseases or worse. If you have celiac you must be strictly gluten free for life! No fooling around. To the OP - have you been diagnosed with celiac disease... -

Oh, but you CAN make pasta! Honest. I posted such a great recipe on here somewhere that I make regularly now. Just think - you could be slurping up homemade spaghetti, linguine, fettucine, even lasagna sheets and ravioli and tortellini. Tomorrow I am making lemon parsley pasta. If only I could find some squid ink kicking around then I would make squid... -

ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?
love2travel replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Publications & Publicity
That is interesting. Ten months ago at my diagnosis I would have checked off the first box as I could eat vast amounts of gluten (i.e. during my challenge I made a gigantic list of things I would never have again and believe me, I enjoyed them). Now? No idea but as I have been strictly gluten free for ten months do not want to find out. Even if I did... -

You could not even begin to fathom how loud it gets. I would never believe it had I not lived it. The windows rattle and my husband and I have to go into a closed room on the other side of the house just to talk to each other. It takes a lot to get me mad, but this makes me FUMING angry. Our peace and quiet is violated by some, well, jerk who...
